A quick catch up, as I’ve actually got an hour in my room before I need to get ready for this evening’s outing and the Wi-Fi has improved, thank goodness!
Tuesday - we had breakfast at Myrtia and then four of us drove to Mandraki Xerxes for a few hours of sunshine and the famous chips! The beach was peaceful and the sea calm and fairly warm for that side of the island. We had a quick shower and change at Myrtia and then it was into town in the evening for a cocktail at GinFish and then all of us at Lo&La, where we took up the whole middle terrace. It was very reasonable at €25 each, I had Capaletti tortellini with a creamy mushroom, bacon and truffle sauce plus a couple of glasses of rosé.
Wednesday - a bouncy drive to lovely Micros Aselinos (fondly known as Robinson Crusoe beach). It was an idyllic beach day with a mid-day break for lunch - tuna salad and a beer. We all stayed on the beach until six-ish and then drove to round to Agia Eleni for dinner and to watch the sunset. I had a disappointing gyros at the taverna and then an excellent cocktail (Mai Tai) at the beach bar. The sunset was as photogenic as ever and we returned to Myrtia just after nine. A few of us sat and played cards on the balcony and slightly over-indulged on the g&t!
Thursday was a sad day as we all dressed in something pink and went early to the Bourtzi to say farewell to our friend (or husband/dad/grandad depending on which member of the group you were). Pink was his favourite colour. Afterwards, the younger ones went back to the hotel pool and the rest of us spent a few hours in town and had a spot of lunch at Foodie Café.
That evening we’d booked a meal at Johnny’s (a favourite restaurant of my friend) and raised a glass to him. I had cheese saganaki, followed by lamb chops. The food was excellent and portions huge. Afterwards, I drove into town as I had arranged to meet up with friends who were eating meze at Bakaliko. (I obviously didn’t have another meal … or a tsipouro as driving!)
Friday - up early to see off two of the group who were leaving for home. They were dreading the airport chaos on return to the uk, but said it wasn’t too bad. I then had breakfast at Myrtia followed by a lovely (though very hot) day on Koukounaries beach. The temperatures have shot up this week - I had to go into the sea several times for a down. Later in the day another three left for home, bringing us down to 14. We decided to eat at Myrtia - chicken special for me (chicken with a mushroom sauce, chips & rice). It was quite lively here as Dirty Dancing was being shown - yet again! We all had a fairly early night.
It’s Saturday afternoon now - we’ve all had a pool day as us girls wanted to conserve our energy for a night in town and Mamma Mia at the cinema. (I say ‘girls’, but we range in age from five to sixty-something!). More to follow …….
