In a thread about the buses, I opined that getting it right can sometimes be easy, and Jet2 appear to be doing that right now.

As we will be staying fairly close to the Alkyon it will give me a chance to have a look at the first stage of their renovations. The photos I've seen on facebook look pretty good, it's usually been a bit topside of my budget but might give it a go one year. I think if mum came on her own early season or something she might well stay there. I did go in briefly in 2019 and it looked OK but maybe needed a bit iof a facelift and that's what's happening. The pool area was underwhelming so maybe thats being addressed eventually too. I think they said it was a 3 part project with work going on out of season each year.

Well, we can obviously write off Cariad’s holiday as a pretty fair case of disaster. I’m so sorry Cariad, it really shouldn’t be like that.
so, the good news today is two-fold, but on pain of Armageddon, I can only say I would have had champagne but they don’t have it in the pool bar at Villa Maria and I had to settle for a glass of rosé, then back in our room, a couple of slugs from my last bottle of Mavrodaphne.
On the other hand, the second good news is that I have at last visited the nice town hall computer man, where I thanked him profusely and mega grovelly for the webcam, saying a huge thank you from everybody in England and we think it is magnificent and he is a star. But Bob would like a bit longer on each view and not so many views (no Bob, I didn’t, just sort of wondered). And he said he would lengthen the time on each view and cut out three or four views. Really nice guy and I think I was effusive enough in our thanks to convince him of our approval. If it happens, I’ll be back in September to convince him he has an appreciation society. I did try to say it would be nice if I could pan and zoom and he said he could give me the password, but it wouldn’t be for everybody and it’s special software and other stuff - he didn’t quite give me the password I’m sorry to say. But I tried. And on a day of celebrations, I have to be glad of what I’ve got. You can’t have Christmas all the time!

All that is by the by. I have to apologise to you all for a miserable performance feedback-wise. I’m afraid that Vera’s mobility has not been good enough for us to do much gallivanting, so reports that we’ve had (some of we’ve had) gyros and beer might get a bit repetitive. Hence silence, not even teeth chomping noise of performing Greek plastic teeth (which, incidentally, said hallo daddy to their creator opposite Tachiarchis).
We have voted to avoid using the new buses, not least because one gave Vera a notable bad knee, got even worse today and made our movements so slow we couldn’t even beat paint drying.
Our most recent adventure was to have an ice cream from the fancy decorated swings ice cream shop, Yum Mee. I paid and did the usual loving thing when he asked one scoop or two, seeing the (small) size of the cornets, said two. Vera chose dark chocolate and the scoops were not just enormous, they were ginormous! After which I had just one scoop of strawberry and watched as she slowly got clobbered by chocolate melting faster than she could eat. I got her more tissues, but still it kept dribbling, down the cornet, all over her hand, dripped on the table, floor and her dress. (Word Deleted) good job she saw the funny side or I would still be on the naughty step! I was glad to discover they had a toilet into which I helped her to get cleaned up.

We’ve been up since 6:30am, just gently doing the last of the packing. I say “we” because I pack my iPad and cables, man stuff, then when the rest is finished I get out the magic weighing machine and weigh it all - one case 15.5kg, other 17.3kg, my hand baggage 4.9kg, Vera’s just couldn’t be bothered, too light to think of.
Have tried to message TUI again, but still absolutely no action from their famous App. It told me two days ago pickup coach 10:20, but I have been totally unable to message asking them to be sure to have a wheelchair waiting for the coach to arrive at airport, take Vera through checkin, security and clanky wheelchair lifty lorry up into the plane. I’m pretty sure it will happen (or I’ll be quite naughty), but it would have been better if the TUI App actually did provide a means of contact other than phoning the UK.

I have to agree with Cariad, two weeks have flown by. I hope Vera has managed to enjoy herself despite the pain she must be in and now a painful knee to top it all off! Let's hope she will be rested and pain free for your September holiday. Have a hassle free and smooth journey home🤞

Well Dennis, I can’t believe it is time for you and Vera to head home already. I hope everything is in place as far as assistance is concerned at both ends. It will be interesting to see if the computer man is as good as his word - thank you for that. Maybe he might even take a trip up to the clock tower with his chamois! I hope you had an enjoyable holiday, in spite of Vera’s mobility difficulty and of course your black eye, which Ihope won’t single you out for extra security checks! 😱🙈

So here we are, home. Obvious am no longer an expert at broad beans. I’m tolerable at sunflowers insofar as two of eleven have blossomed, the rest had already succumbed to slugs and snails even before we went. I shall assess the rest tomorrow. Assistance at Skiathos had rather escaped TUI’s attention despite assuring me on the phone that they had it in hand. Their sole rep outside the airport was too busy with her phone and walked past us. So I approached a small group of Fraport staff and they did the business perfectly. TUI rep managed to respond, to the extent of advising us to go inside to the Assistance point, but Fraport brought a wheelchair and wheeled us there - it WOULD have been a for Vera. So by hrough we went like royalty, save for the tiny delay when the security man reacted to the alarm triggered by the wheelchair and inspected every last tiny thing in Vera’s cabin bag. When time came to board the on time flight, it turned out the clanky lifty truck was not alive, so they put us on a bus using a ramp and exclusive ride to the plane, where three of us struggled her up the steps and Vera declined the offer of the man mountain to carry her up. It was slow and by the time we got to our seats, a full bus had arrived to hurry us along. Despite being on time outbound, our return flight suffered a 39 minute air traffic control delay. So to Bristol a bit late. I had asked cabin manager to check we were set for wheelchair offloading from the plane and we were brought down by the plushest lifty truck - we wished they’d had those seats on the plane! Royalty progress right through the lot to baggage reclaim. Where, sadly, the nice young lady said she had to disappear, had called for somebody to take the rest of it, so wait here and they’ll come and get you. A kind passenger offered to help getting our bags off the belt, but we gracefully declined. The cases turned up and we stayed there waiting, and waiting, etc. Nobody, the carousel had long stopped so we tried forming a sort of train of two cases back and front, wheelchair in the middle. Jackknifed the whole shebang and stopped. But after another long wait decided T I try again with me pushing two cases with one hand and wheelchair with the other. In ten yards (or metres in new money), I had entangled us with a bollard and felt tears approaching, but a couple stopped and helped us right to the airport exit. Samaritans! I left Vera at the entrance and dragged the cases to Meet and Greet, just about 300 yards in old money, used my extra key to put them in the van and went back for Vera. Collect my duplicate key from the M&G guardian and away we went. I sincerely hope the Assistance people spent a long time trying to find us in baggage reclaim - vindictive and I WAS wearing my Mr Grumpy T-shirt, which accurately described my feelings. I rang Villa Maria to confirm our homecoming and check my magic iPhone had correctly predicted rain in Skiathos for 5pm - supposedly a few drops actually happened - we can hope that Cariad will confirm!
