I remember asking Morfia how they got those chicken slouvakis so tasty? Talked about marinading them overnight in yoghurt/lemon juice/herbs overnight. Ive tried doing that but nowhere as juicy/tasty as theirs!

I love cooking, and always try to recreate great foods I’ve tried when I get home.
I’m still a million mild off a decent stifado.
But chicken souvlaki? I’ve never had better than mine anywhere in Greece. Recipe to follow.

We love cooking too, I use a yogurt lemon marinade for a lot of chicken dishes makes them tender but these were extra juicy I think a lot af regular turning so the outside doesn’t go hard. I will be trying to get the same taste for the sauce we had for seafood linguine at salt and pepper. I love watching Greek chef called arik on you tube feast for the eyes, and not just the food! I’ve also got Rick steins book where he travels through Greece collecting recipes. As it may rain off and on alll day will t probably eat here again tonight. Did you try the lamb shank in lemon white wine and oregano Di also excellent cannotfault food here

I specialise in eating - not quite so successfully as when I had real teeth so I’ve had to let my standards slip somewhat. I marinate my Greek plastic teeth overnight, but the benefit often wears off about lunch time.
I’m pretty sure I once asked Ratatouille for chicken souvlaki and aware of their portions asked for only one stick please. She said it is only one stick so I groaned. But without doubt, the best I’ve ever had (and better than Yorkshiremouth). I think theirs is probably the only one I don’t find dry.
PS if you like rich flavours, try lamb in plum sauce at Jasteri, incredible, really almost too rich.

A day of torrential rain yesterday, we had stocked up with the warning of a storm, so spent a day in the room reading playing games on our phones pretty much what you do on the beach, I think sometimes good to have a rest from the sun. Booked for ratatouille last night in case still raining Luckily it had stopped but very windy had mousakka and ratatouille salad which is abit like Caesar salad without the walnuts. Both excellent the bechamel topping of the mousakka was so light almost mousse like .half litre wine less than 30 euros one portion of each as so big was enough for the two of us. Today dry warm but not brilliant sunshine yet may have lazy morning and go into town this afternoon.

I LOVE their Moussaka.. and their salad.. and their oven potatoes.. oh I just love everything there! 😁 The little mini magnum to finish it all off do they still do them? One year I was most upset when they gave us I think a bit of greek yoghurt with drizzle of honey in a tiny pot. I was like Where’s my ice cream? 🙄😂

Yes mini magnum to finish perfect size. Heat cooler now about 24 6am today very windy. Yesterday went into town in afternoon. Got my oregano fix large bag locally picked 10 euros I use it on lots dishes evertime I smell it I’m back on holiday, it’s very very different to oregano u get in our country. I bought some on line from Greek supermarket but was £6 for a small bag. I couldn’t fing the honey shop on pap street love Greek thyme honey saw some Greek thyme honey in supermarket 19-80 euros for kilo tin supposed prize winner tempted I pay £4 little jar at home from local small producer. Use it on Greek yogurt and honey and mustard sauce with pork steaks or chicken . Or near by spoonful for sore throat. Now bid shout out for new bus driver just past bus stop 5 yesterday big bmw motor bike lying in the road bits of mudguards smashed off Greek lady being helped up . On opposite side he stopped the bus her shoes had been pulled off legs all grazed and cut vegetal people helping move bike. He put her arm round his neck helped her hip to bus, took her to new medication L centre just past bus stop 3, pulled up outside helped her in she was very shocked and crying, practically carried her all the way in and returned to the bus. So there are some nice drivers. Came back had a swim another day done.

Back to cooking for a minute, has anyone on here done the cookery night at the El-Ysium at bus stop 15? Helen and her friend Anne (who will be joining us this holiday) are keen to give it a go, seems to get good reviews on facebook. Me and mum not too bothered so I expect this will be an evening where we nip off to No Name and Old Port House for a low culture level night out :-)

Yes, Kev - Ann Sharp (who I think you also know) has done it and said it was excellent.
Cariad - a new honey shop opened in town during lockdown. It's in a back street opposite the entrance to the Mouria's restaurant and I think it's called Koukounaries. It has a mural outside with bees and flowers.

Found kilo honey in a tin kilo 19-80 euro in supermarket I’ve been using small jar organic skopelos honey while here lovely 3-80 but in glass jar from nearest supermarket. She said if I want to take home will wrap it in thick paper for me then wrap towels round. I don’t think we are going into town again until Friday when we will kill the day in town and have a meal until time to leave . Ate at ratatouille again last night chicken souvlaki shrimp saganaki half litre wine I think 26-27 euros we have stash of lovely cakes in fridge have later when we have final nightcap on veranda . Lazy day round pool today loads sunbeds left until after midday think all the 6-30 claim bed brigade gone a lot of new people arrived this afternoon much quieter here now.

Don’t know anyone who has been I’ve got the calms taverna cookbook bought from bookshop top of pap street Disappointing Cariad - for proper Brownie points, you are supposed to visit the restaurant in Ag. Paraskevi for a meal and whilst there buy the book from the author(ess) and get her to sign it for you. (I haven't done that, I'm not a discerning palate people and cook, just an elderly).

I've not actually met that Anne (I know it gets confusing there are a lot of them about) but have seen some of her fb posts. It does seem to generally get fairly positive reviews and as there's a meal chucked in doesn't seem too expensive (at least the cooking only version without language lesson).
