"The whole idea of stopping in town (at least at the moment, in my head, not having done it before), is that on an evening you don’t have to worry about buses to and from town every night"It's exactly this reason for me, YM. In May, I only went into town on my own at night 3 times and each time was too late to catch a bus back, so it cost me a fortune in taxi fares back to the Myrtia. (I'm not really a dirty stop out - meeting friends in town and not eating till late and then possibly a drink at a bar and on to the Blind Dog or Totem, it's far too late for a bus back.) I also like to be able to pop out to Pap St for a stroll round/shopping before going back to my room to get ready for the evening (inc a siesta!) It was much different when I was half of a couple - it didn't matter as much where we stayed. And the new buses will have definitely improved the situation now. Another huge plus for town, to me, is getting a water taxi to the beach and back. Just love doing this!

I believe you travel today - have a happy journey.
A quick note, we’ve commented in this thread, and I’ve mentioned in my feedback, about the town/resort balance, including transport and crowding.
It’ll be interesting to hear your experiences in this respect, this time around.
Have a great holiday.

Sorry to hear about the diversion to Athens and hopefully someone still on the desk at Angeliki by time you finally arrived.

The Two Ronnies once did this - answering the question before it was asked. Now what did she do next, Kev?

Lol Dennis! What I did next was to have an unplanned trip to Athens - somewhere I’ve always wanted to visit 😆 (Be very careful what you wish for!)
In all the times I’ve been here there has never been a weather delay/diversion, until last night. We set off over an hour late from Manchester (which was heaving - queues for everything) and we were told it was something to do with German airspace, even though Lufthansa were on strike yesterday. I knew thunderstorms were forecast, but the captain did announce the descent into Skiathos and started to lose altitude but then went back up again and seemed to do quite a lot of banking. I’ve seen the flight radar screenshots a friend took and we did quite a few loops in between the mainland and here before heading straight over to Athens. There was a bad electrical storm over Skiathos so we had to wait on the tarmac there for it to pass and for refuelling to take place! We eventually took off again and landed at 0030 at JSI … with a big bump! Approx seven and a half hours on the plane 😬. There was a lot of impressive lightning - sheet and forked - over to the right of the plane. Very spectacular.
I was a bit worried about a) getting a taxi, as had definitely missed the airport bus and b) someone being around at Angeliki to let me in, as it was almost one thirty when I was dropped off. I needn’t have worried on both counts: there were plenty of taxis and the very kind Nikos was waiting for me at the hotel.
I was quite wired after all that excitement so did the unpacking and then probably dropped off to sleep at about 3am. It was very humid and around 22C. I should really have put the aircon on, but don’t like the noise. However, I will tonight as it might drown out the rather noisy fridge!
I’ve had a quiet day here today, up at 9 am and a hearty breakfast at Swell, then a sun bed on the lawn and a couple of swims (the sea is lovely and warm). Am just about to get ready and am meeting some friends later - not sure where yet. I’m also hoping to get to the Blind Dog later still to say hi to KevB and his mum and to meet Helen and offer my congratulations on the happy news.

An eventful start, but one which you appear to have taken completely in your stride.

We will be eating at 1901 but planning to be in Blind Dog at some point later on, hopefully see you there. We saw the lightning around the time you should have been landing. To be honest Ive seen worse but obviously we couldnt tell how bad it was up in the air. Safety first and all that. One of the fb crowd who is here had a friend on Kates flight, we bumped into them on the Bourtzi at lunch time.

Kate, I also had a noisy fridge, but found that turning it down to zero, before going to bed, stopped the noise. You just have to remember to turn it back up again before you go out for the day. Have a great time.

One of the few negatives at Lake was that, even when turned right down, the fridge froze anything you put in it.

Doesn’t that mean your beer won’t be cold enough for breakfast? I thought that you English only drink warm beer. 😱
