We’re in Asprolithos.
It’s full.
Of Italians!

Funny we’ve ate at Richie o poverie tonight and had a drink in Mythos whilst waiting for the 10:30 boat taxi back to kanapitsa, an Easy jet flight was arriving and we became curious as to where it came from, my wife checked on line and found ,Naples, yet more Italians

There was a hastily created, handwritten notice on Asprolithos’ door saying “Menu in Italian”.

Friday, a belter weather-wise.
The supermarket near Agustera has its own coffee bar, and the quality is good. Even made me a caffè crema, which many places don’t even bother to try.
We didn’t get to Koukounaries beach until just gone noon, and the only sun beds left were at the back, under the trees. We took those, and moved to others once they became free. So very full, but never felt uncomfortably so.
Kids had a go on the Crazy Sofa again. They’re not taking the rings out as it was too choppy. Indeed, they couldn’t go anything like full speed on the sofa as it was bouncing all over. Hopefully calmer today, or soon, as they’re desperate for the rings, and I like it flat for the JetSki.
Due to the lack of pressure to keep to bus timetables, we didn’t get into town until late. We drank at the Lobby Bar, which is apparently the Pap.St. front of the Bourtzi Hotel. Great mojito.
Asprolithos for lamb stifado and Italians. The ‘lamb stifado and 0.5l of house Merlot’ here is one thing I can order on the island without opening the menu, and remains a great combination.
Bus home was packed, despite it being very late. We stood until Achladies, but sat down as it thinned out. It really is amazing how there can be so many more buses, and yet still all full.
No time for a nightcap, so straight to bed.
Everyone complains about how many power strips, charging cables and power banks I have, but us happy to throw them all at me at the end of the day to endure everything’s on 100% for the morning.
Not listened to any music yet as I’ve been tuning in to the cricket.
Which is fun.

I’ve been tuning in to the cricket. Which is fun. Ah yes, listening to paint dry sounds even more exciting than watching it.

A quick word about Koukounaries bridge.
It’s now entirely boarded up at both ends. There a floating pontoon platform to cross on the south side, from where the inside of parts of the bridge are now visible - whether that’s due to inspectors pulling boards off to have a look, or the boards collapsing, I couldn’t say.
Bottom line, whilst I’m not a structural engineer, it appears to my untrained eyes like parts of the inside parts of this wooden structure have simply rotted away.
I’ve no idea when the collapse happened. It was like this in late May, so could have been over the winter, or possibly when the first tourists started to use it in numbers in early May.
The fact that it’s not repaired yet suggests they’re waiting for the end of the season before starting work. It may well be that the entire bridge is replaced, rather than repaired.
I’d be amazed, not to mention disappointed if it wasn’t sorted for next year; they won’t be short of funds, given the lack of empty sun beds and steady queues at the beach bars.

Regarding your Kouk beach toilets post YM - it's no excuse, but I don't remember them ever having seats (tho' I can only speak about the ladies WC, of course). I always assumed they never bothered with them as it was easier to clean sandy, wet loos without seats attached? If I'm swimming, I don't really mind & if not - just sort of hover! It's good for the thigh muscles 😁

Kate, are you saying that you do toilet things whilst swimming? I thought only blokes did that.

Take a rubber ring with you.
As they say, it’s a lot less bovver than a hovver. 🤣

Kate, are you saying that you do toilet things whilst swimming? I thought only blokes did that. EEEEEKKKK!!! No Dennis ~ just that I can let the sea wash any germs off! (If there are any germs to be washed off, of course.) Deep down, I knew I should have left well alone on this one! 🙈

YM, with regards to kouk bridge, we should run a sweepstake as to which gets repaired first, the bridge or the collapsed road up to the monastery. We may have to wait a while for the result

In July, the collapsed road was really improved, with a proper lane closure and stakes with tape. And traffic lights for one way traffic. They weren’t switched on (exciting death defying drive along the long stretch of single lane, travel in hope rather than expectation). So it’s looking good. I haven’t seen the Koukounaries footbridge, but it really should be fixable long before the road, only needs a few bits of wood nailed together, whereas the road needs a reconstruction of the hillside.

Our ‘second party’ have just landed.
We’ll be eating somewhere in Koukounaries tonight.
