What a fabulous place for a proposal, Kev! So romantic 💕💕. Did you share Mandraki chips to celebrate? And Hellenikon was a great choice for your celebratory meal - Dimitris and family are just lovely. Definitely, as Cariad says, the happiest feedback post this year … heartfelt congratulations to you and Helen. Cheers Kate. Yes we had taramasalata, special chips and a club sandwich for lunch, absolutely stuffed 😊

Curiosity question, bear with me. Asking for a friend.
Whenever I see a proposal, she says Yes and he puts the ring on her finger. AND IT FITS - not too small, not too big, it fits. So given that she's not in on it in advance (i.e. they didn't go choose a ring because she didn't know a proposal was coming) how do they get a ring that fits properly for the proposal?

easy dennis, the man investigates her jewellery box and takes a ring to the jewellers to get sized. or we bought each other celtic bands before e got engaged so know the size. Are you planning a surprise ring for Vera ? eternity ring ?

Not planning anything, Vera has lots of rings, several bought by me. But a couple of years ago at CenterParcs she developed an allergy and hands and fingers ballooned. We had to go to A&E to have them all cut off and now can’t wear any.
That’s a clever idea, proves how deeply runs my stupid streak, never crossed my mind. But I wouldn’t do that anyway - surely jewellery box is as private and personal as purse, handbag, bathroom cabinet and knickers drawer?

Yesterday was the first of our car hire days. I had decided on Mustang and they agreed to deliver to the apartments. The appointed time came and went and 30 minutes after I became slightly concerned there had been a misunderstanding and maybe I was supposed to go to pick it up? A quick call to Magda reassured me it was on the way but it had been returned late by previous renters and had just been cleaned. Young girl(presumably Magdas daughter?) turned up soon after but asked me which car I was down for. She was quite insistent that Asiminas House had booked 2 vehicals and therefore I was responsible. She then got into a conversation with one of Asiminas staff who told her in no uncertain terms that the other name given wasnt anyone staying at the accommodation. So finally we go and look at the Jimny as opposed to which ever other car had been booked. As far as I could see they had only brought the Jimny so this other phantom booking was becoming a bit surreal anyway. Then she insisted Id booked it for 10 days. Told her I wouldnt be on the island in 10 days, it had always been a 4 day booking. No, I was down for 10 and the other non existing person was down for 11. No, I can assure you I will be back in UK on 4th Sep and wont be driving back in your Jimny. Eventually all was signed off, took photos of a couple of minor scratches and off they went leaving me with Jimny. We could just get 4 of us in plus assorted gear for days out. Mum struggled a bit getting in and out of rear due to height off ground, will remember for future hols. Decided to attempt Ligares/Kechria in homage to our own Dennis & Vera. Even went there via Troulos for the full experience. I did warn them that after we were beyond Asselinos turnoff the roads would deteriorate (even though Id never driven on the island before) but Id picked up a good quality map so easy to see the poorer roads. A bit jarring in places but we first had a look at Ligares but Anne thought it looked scruffy with all the driftwood and there wasnt a single sunbed to be had anyway. Back in jeep and rattled off to Kechria. Prettier setting though beach a bit shingly and lots of rocks under foot. However we werent going anywhere else it was already gone midday. All sunbeds taken or reserved, every single one! However there had clearly been some no shows so we just timed it right to grab 4 nice padded ones in the grassy area as the became no longer reserved. I blame the Italians. All the beds are now 10 euro EACH here btw, maybe they will drop later in season. Bit of a captive audience, you wouldnt drive all way here then turn back over 5 euros of bed hire and they know it. At various points we all had a swim and used the taverna which is quite pretty and was busy. Saw a guy from kitchens take 2 huge fish down to the sea to clean and gut in preparation for cooking later. We just ordered feta and bread!.
Our plucky vehical for 4 days, posing outside the new supermarket on the airport road.
Beach taverna at Kechria, fellow snapped as he came back from cleaning two huge fish in the sea before it went on the menu.

Remainder of yesterday. Returned from Kechria without incident, I even engaged the 4 wheel drive to get us up the initial slope from Kechria parking area which is about a 1:3 incline. We came back the more direct route which brings you out on main road around the Kassandra Bay Resort place. Back to apts to get spruced up. I had arranged a romantic meal for 2 at final step whilst mum and Helens friend Anne were going to do their own thing in town. We werent due at FS until 9 so I had time to run the other 2 to town first then take jeep back and Helen & I then walked back in. Bit of a climb to clock tower, we had both done it before. Facebook friend Ruth, who I had never met in person, is waiting tables at FS this season and sorted us a lovely table looking out over the ferry port. Perfect. Cant afford to eat here every night but hands down best food we have had so far. Starters of scallops and fish cakes, mains of duck leg for me and fillet steak for Helen plus half litre of house rose and 2 extra glasses of house red. Couldnt finish it all, some steak came back with us in a bag. 82 euro without tip, as Ruth had been so good we left a healthy tip. Back down steps and into Kentavros. We had our first kiss in there last year so it was always on the cards to revisit. Mum and Anne joined us there later. They had also had a great meal but couldnt remember name. From description it might have been Primavera. They ended up in Totem but the police turned up and for reasons unclear shut the place down hence they came to see us! We headed home and called for alcoholic coffee then caught a taxi back as we were all knackered. Another terrific day all in. Jimny still with us for 3 more days, undecided where next.

Smashing. Shame about the car mix up. I can never understand how, when they’ve clearly made a up, they don’t just admit it and continue to argue.

Interesting - what price all the gushing praise on FB for Mustang? It wasnt that big a deal but it was typical of the relaxed approach some families have to running things. To be fair I will reiterate how busy the island is in general. Lots of hire vehicals around so hire companies working flat out to keep folks happy. For all I know it might be the customer who has got mixed up with accommodation names. Some people can barely pronounce where they are staying, had this first hand on other holidays. Jimny seems in decent nick and performing well. Got up the incline from Kechria no problem, three out of 4 of us on the hefty side with assorted beach gear. Charged 45 euro per day, dont know how that ties with others at this time. It will be cheaper as it gets later in season for sure.

Ive heard some horror stories on incidents where people have been charged for damage that may not be their fault and find they are under insured from the start?

It was 180 for 4 days all inclusive of insurance. The girl from Mustang insisted I took photo or video of the marks that already existed on the vehical on pickup so we were both on the same page in terms of damage which I thought was very fair. If there are any issues on return I shall report back.

The thing I wasnt keen on was the car was left with 1/4 tank of petrol and thats how they want it back. Notoriously difficult to guage usage so 9 out of 10 will give it back with more than 1/4 left and they can syphon off the excess for their own use, oldest trick in the book. Prefer a full tank pick up and full tank drop off but it is what it is.

Prefer a full tank pick up and full tank drop off but it is what it is. Long established practice, I just regard it as part of life’s rich tapestry and I wouldn’t fancy trying to syphon it out. A million years ago in Cyprus, they used a dipstick to demonstrate and measure. As for full before and after, unless you watch them fill it first, how full is it? I long ago decided I have better things to worry about, e.g. is the sea warm enough?
