I just wanted to open a thread on these, now that many of us have experienced (or will soon be experiencing) both the buses themselves and their impact on the island.
Town appears far busier, and it’s easy to understand why. We now come and go on an evening without having to plan where we’re going, when we’re going, when we need to be back, nor worry about not getting a seat.
But the resorts? It’s tough to say. They’re busy, busier than since pre-COVID, but Koukounaries is a bit more ‘standard busy’ than town.
I wonder if the buses might hothouse the town’s economy, whilst changing little for businesses in the resorts.

One impact the new buses are clearly having is on the Taxi drivers, cars rather than people queuing at the taxi rank in town in the evening. Whilst taxis the easy /quickest open when leaving town they’re certainly not the cheapest option

I’ve decided to try the bus from the airport if I have difficulty getting a taxi on Friday night. I’m just not sure what time they run til from there - will have to check. I’m only going to bus stop 5, so the taxis may ditch me in favour of a more profitable fare.

For my departure, I used the bus to the airport after a horrendous ride from the airport to Kolios on my arrival and being charged €27! The airport buses run at 30 minute intervals to and from the terminus and you change at the terminus for the Koukounaries bus. The last bus from the terminus to the airport is 10.45, so I presume that will then pick up arriving passengers.

Thanks Bob - that’s brilliant! I should be out of the airport by 9.30 at the latest 🤞

The bus dropped me off in the lay-by outside the domestic arrival/departures entrance, round the corner to the left, as you leave the building, so I suppose that will also be the pick-up point, unless anyone knows differently.

Not done an airport run but its turned out by circumstances we have ended up on more of the new ones than old, no negative experiences at all yet.

Sorry, grumpy Dennis doesn't like them. I will agree the frequency is an improvement, however, we never went by timetables, just went out and waited until something came along. I considered the seats very hard and the drivers too hard driving. And of course, I'm biased due to a 'Greek-style' packed one being the cause of Vera's accident. We chose to let new buses go by and waited for an old one. I do hope they survive.

it was great to get more frequent buses, saw lots of people using the bus from the terminus to the airport. i thought the new minibus to asselinos was great value at 2 euros and stops nanywhere along that road where villa maria christakis is, and will drop off anywhere along there on return. i cant see why the bus doesnt drop you off at the beach car park and turn round rather than 150yards down the road leading to it.

The biggest problem I found with the new buses was the fact that no conductors means that it can take an age to get everyone on at busy stops. Just below my accommodation there was a bus stop between two tight bends. Many times I watched the traffic stack up behind the bus with some idiot car driver, three or four back, deciding to throw caution to the wind and overtake in spite of the fact that they were overtaking on a blind corner. There were quite a few near misses and I can see that it is just a matter of time before there is a nasty accident.

There is now a space marked up with a sign saying 'bus stop' just outside the big taverna at aselinos beach which the bus drops off at and picks up from. The new buses are trying to address the issue of getting large numbers on them quickly by now having ticket sellers hanging around the really popular stops so you can get a ticket whilst waiting and get straight on.
