The kids ate quickly and took off to explore, and I was left in peace for an hour to finish the lunch. When you sit in an idyllic place like that, with a lunch like that, and without a care in the world, we’ll that’s why we all come here, isn’t it. Yes, could not agree more

So, Julie has arrived safely, and we’re now a party of six. She’s only here for 3 nights, but she’ll love every minute, almost as much as she’s loved the peace and quiet of us being gone.
I’ll post more in the situation, and the knock-on effect on the holiday, in a later post.

I’m glad the plan worked out so well! Bet the kids were overjoyed to see her. Hope the weather’s behaving for you all 😎
The photos are great, by the way. I really must get the app on here so I can add some … they make a big difference.

I fooled Theo into coming to the airport to pick her up. I told him I wanted to time the walk, and meet a fellow boomeranger who was on the plane.
For Freya and Tahlia we laid on opposite sides on our sunloungers. They came to chat to me, stood with their backs to Julie, not seeing her at all. Then Tahlia started to glance, then look at her, not believing what she was seeing. Freya soon picked up on it.
For both, their faces were a picture.

Mesogia last night, and a wonderfully warm welcome. As ever, epic food, though I’ve lost track. I do know their fried zucchini balls are quite marvellous and the moussaka is about as good as it gets. Full house of the house wine, half a litre each of red, white and rose.

Left to right: Julie (at last), Freya, Tahlia, dad, Theo, the Mouth. Note the date on the board saying when Mesogia opened.

Just a bit of clarification on Julie’s late arrival.
A family member fell ill just a couple of weeks before we were booked. We couldn’t really cancel, as that’d have left dad on his own, and because of the circumstances, we’d have got very little back, and the insurance wouldn’t cover.
Julie felt she had to stay, and Freya didn’t want to come away being the only girl, leaving us two down. Instead we invited Freya’s friend, so all good. Things in the UK took a turn for the better, so Julie was able to come for the last three days. She booked flights, and the Alkyon arranged for us to have a temporary bed moved into the girl’s room.
All great, and Julie’s loving it.

Penultimate full day. Koukounaries, baking hot, Olive Thea tonight - we love it, and though we don’t go every time, we couldn’t bring Tahlia and not have her experience that.

Olive Thea left us a tad disappointed.
Poor Despina was clearly unwell; I’m not sure how much that was part of it. We made the poor decision of being picked up at 8:30. As the car had to do two runs, we weren’t sat down together until 9:00, and we didn’t get our starters until 10:00. Having said that, the food was the best it’s ever been, but at €180 (well, there were 6 of us, so €30 each), we’d hoped it’d be the best night of the holiday, which it wasn’t. A great shame, but as I say, the food was smashing, as is the setting. Just one more issue, it turned out to be a very chilly night up in the hills; and was far warmer later for cocktails at Rock ‘b’ Roll. Thoughtfully, the staff had provided blankets/shawls for the girls.
Today the lasses have set off for Achladies, me and dad are by the pool, going to the Bourtzi later. It was supposed to be Big Bad Wolf tonight, but that’s up in the air.
I’ll keep you posted.

how are you liking being in town as opposed to skiathos palace, do you prefer it? i hear the sunbeds have gone up to 20 euros on koukinaries beach from 1st june, how on earth do they think a family of 4 can afford that for 14 days 560 euros added to cost of holiday. we never spend a whole day on the beach either, as we are bored by about 2pm. I love swimming in the sea but dislike sand, so the sunbeds in the garden of the taverna at the end of troulos beach suited us fine, sunbeds on the grass but a few steps to the sea, and excellent food for lunch in the taverna. my husband likes somewhere with a good pool, so he can pick up wi fi and use tablet or phone for games etc. Until last year we always stayed in town and enjoyed not having to get buses at night, but we did enjoy troulos last year, as no crowds and plenty of tavernas, and for once loads of buses.
