To digress a little - so many people complain about diners who are such ignoramuses that they smoke between courses. So I thought I would demonstrate what I do between courses to make you feel better. EDIT TO ADD For the less observant among you, it seems I was asleep.

Saturday - first breakfast of the holiday was disappointing. We had forgotten the shopping list we had made, so the supermarket was hit and miss, with a lot of miss. And they didn’t have little sugar packets, or little salt ones, so no sugar and instead a big pot of salt to waste. Perhaps due to the three cans of wine on the plane, the digestive biscuits i picked up were diet, low fat. Consequently, as with all diet things, they taste abominable, that’s how those people diet - food so awful they can’t eat it, don’t eat, lose weight, simples. However, the main problem with them was they were scathed, so the packet only contained three unbroken biscuits and it’s impossible to layer tomato slices on top of broken biscuits. And the green milk is so awful it made my Gold Blend less than tasty. The saving grace was the peach I’d picked up in the supermarket, it tasted heavenly.
Off to town on a white bus with the enormous climb to the first step and the townie driver who has not been trained to wait until elderlies are safely seated before setting off with squealing tyres. We got the last two seats and as we progressed, it got fuller and fuller. At one stage, somebody said they couldn’t move down any further so i called out “of course you can, there’s loads of room” and they all shuffled along and sardined themselves as is the proper Greek way.
We worked our way slowly down Papadiamanti Street, checking out the shops for Vera stuff. I did point out that her suitcase had weighed 19.7 kilos of her 20kg allowance, but i was shushed and we added a few bags to our arms (my arms). After ages, we reached NIKOS Taverna and I was able to set in motion the gyros business - see my earlier photo post setting up a meeting with Kelso Bob, who never turned up - a performance he has repeated again on a later day. After two gyros (it’s been ages since the last one) we strolled to the Bourtzi for another beer and frappé, then strolled back to the bus terminus via an ice cream bin, then back to Troulos.
Where we joined the others for evening meal at Jasteri. Sorry, no photos, other than the one already published earlier of me asleep between courses. I asked for my ‘usual’ duck in plum sauce and they said they had never served that, only lamb in duck sauce. No matter how adamant I was, they stuck to the story, even calling on the chef to confirm it, so lamb in duck sauce it was. I always make a point of congratulating and thanking the chef there because the kitchen is part of the dining area (and he has recognised me for years now), so this time I visited him again and said thank you and added that the duck was better! That was Ian’s turn to pay, so I’ve no idea how much it cost - much more than Vareli the night before, because they went a bit daft with happy hour cocktails!

So sorry to have missed you at Nikos, Dennis, but the Wi-Fi ( that’s the internet thingy to you) at my place is a bit hit or miss so I didn’t see your post until just now. Glad to hear that you are enjoying yourselves, but a shame about that shirt! 🤣🤣🤣 I hope I do manage to bump into you guys at some point, so that we can insult each other face to face! 🤭 Bob

Fair enough Bob, I’ll look out for bagpipes and a sprig of heather. Our fairly regular routine is Acropolis stop, down Papadiamanti Street checking each shop selling Vera stuff, NIKOS taverna, more Vera stuff shops and on to Bourtzi, back along ferry and new port frontage to bus terminus back to Troulos. As from Tuesday night we shall increase to a family of seven with three groups to arrange travel timetable.

I’ll be in town today, minus bagpipes and heather, but looking for a distinguished couple carrying a rolled up copy of the Times and a rose! Do you have a rough eta for Nikons ? 😄

Sorry Bob, no idea, just “today, normally late morning “. However it has just started raining here in Troulos, giving the lie to the forecast which says drizzle at 6pm!

Same here in Kolios. I’ll keep a look out in town. I’ll be wearing a white and black t shirt with NICCE on the chest. Either that or I might just be one of the dozens wearing a yellow pakamak!😊

Google T-shirt today disguised as one of those ridiculous ponchos if they’ve got them in our supermarket.

Been sitting in Astoria, Pap street for the past 3/4 of an hour scouring all the passers by. Am eating an omelette and on my second coffee. Now getting dirty looks from the owner. Think I can make it stretch for another 15 minutes before moving on to Fregio on the new port for a “Bob’s Coca Cola Float” is

Well I’ve done it!!! I’ve managed to meet up with the wonderful Dennis and Vera and I can confirm, that he is not at all grumpy! At least he wasn’t when I met them, but that might change after Vera’s shopping expedition! I can now fly home happy on Wednesday, if this thunderstorm which is supposed to last for another three days, lets up enough for my flight to take place. 🙈🙈🙈

And I can confirm that Bob is a very nice person, despite not being in a kilt (or even tartan shorts and sox) and no sign of a sprig of heather.

Well now I’ve seen it all on Facebook. A woman has posted a request, saying people will be staying round their rooms/accommodation because of the weather and asking them to avoid disturbing other guests with inconsiderate noise - at a time when we’ve been having three sessions of the worst thunderstorms we’ve ever experienced. She says it’s inconsiderate to do raucous music, laughing etc. Pardon me whilst I go back to raucous sleeping through this unbelievable demonstration of the force of nature!

Ah but you couldn’t see the “My name’s Doddie” MND tartan underpants! 🤭. I hope things aren’t too bad down your way. Troulos always seems to get it hard with weather like this.

You could wear underpants over shorts Bob like superman! Doddie. Wiers charity excellent, mnd terrible illness, seeing big strapping rugby players reduced to wheelchair heartbreaking. But the photo of one of ex teammates carrying him shows the wonderful camaraderie of sportsmen. Hope weather improves for you all soon, take care Dennis don’t want your arm in a sling again for months. Feel for all those people stuck at airports for hours. Baking hot here yesterday think we’ll head for beach tomorrow, maybe even dip big toe in sea.

Dennis, I hope you’re raising a wry smile at all this.
The rains will pass. Hopefully not too much damage caused.
You have 10 days of your holiday left, so the wet weather should be only a small, if unwelcome part of your holiday.
Stay safe.
