On count down for our sixth visit to this beautiful island, roll on the 27th August! We are wondering if we should visit Skopelos this year for the first time and what is the best option to do this. Any info would be welcome thank you.

Hi ejpkcat, welcome to the forum. Getting to Skopelos for the day is easy and there are a variety of ways to do it. You can 'DIY' and get tickets for the ferries/fastcat or go on a trip. Much depends on what you are looking to do when you get there and whether you are looking to take a hire car over. If you go the DIY route then you have to plan a little more about what to do when you get there etc, whereas an organised trip is well, 'organised' - you know what I mean! If you get a ferry yourself you can get off at Glossa or Skopelos Town - depends whether you are looking for a walk around the town and a bit of a 'mooch' and lunch, or investigating beaches and a taverna etc. if you can let me know what your thoughts are then I can provide some more info.

Thank you, I'm loving this forum already :-) We are thinking a 'mooch' around the town, some lunch and then a stroll around the waterfront? We have decided not to hire a car this year for the first time as we thought we would hire a couple of bikes for a change, we are not Bradley Wiggins standard, more wobble along really :-)

If you are looking for spending the day in Skopelos Town then you can start to plan by looking at the timetable at. www.openseas.gr/openseas/index.html. Think about choosing a day when you can get an early ferry from Skiathos (generally around 10 / 10.30) and return late afternoon. You don't need to buy too far in advance and you will be able to buy easily from the office at bottom of Pap St 24 hours in advance. You could get 2 single tickets so that you can go in say the Express Skiathos and return on the Flyingcat. Perhaps consider avoiding the main aircraft days when ferry traffic may be higher. An example trip would be Sat 31August when you could leave Skiathos at 10.35, arrive in Skopelos Town at 12.10, and then do the return on either the Express Pegasus at 15.50 or the Flying Cat at 16.20.
