Can you suggest the best beaches to visit, not necessarily with the most facilities?
Many Thanks

Difficult question, it depends what you call best beaches. The northerly beaches have less people on them, but are more dificult to get to and are a bit more "rugged", few sunbeds and less facilities.
Popular beaches are Koukounaries, Banana, Troulos, Kolios, Vromolimnos, Amberlekia and Aghia Eleni. A great beach to visit is on the island of Tsougria, which is about a mile off the main island and can be reached by water taxi.

Tzaneria Beach is near Kanapitsa. It is small sandy beach, but faces East, so come the afternoon the sun is behind you. Sometimes known as Nostos beach as it is the closest beach to the Nostos Hotel complex (timeshare). There is a water taxi that goes directly from this beach to Skiathos Town approximately every 60-90 minuutes. you can get to it by bus, the nearest stop is Bus Stop 12 about 150 metres away Here is a picture

Try also looking on this map. Zoom in near the southernemost tip of the island and you should be able to find Tzaneria Beach. Click on the wave icon to show which beach it is.

That particular water taxi goes between Skiathos Town, Tzaneria Beach and Kanapitsa Beach (just round the corner form Tzaneria Beach). I belive there is another one ehich goes between Skiathos Town and Achladies Beach as well.
For timings I cannot be precise, but I believe they start around 9am until about 10pm, arriving every 90 minutes or so. I belive there may be a couple of hours break in the afternoon too.

The water taxi is a great way to get to either Kanapitsa and Tzaneria beaches. They do stop running for a couple of hours in the afternoon but then start again and continue into the evening. Last one leaving Skiathos at around 11 I believe. The other water taxi goes to Achladies beach so make sure you get on the right one. More expensive than the bus but certainly cooler and a nice trip along the coast.

Forgot to actually say that Kanapits beach is a lovely little beach. It is quite narrow with only one row of sunbeds but doesn't get too busy. Two sunbeds, umbrella and bottle of water cost 8 euros last year. There is a taverna serving lovley food. Rather a long walk from the bust stop so suggest the water taxi.

Agree, Kolios Beach is lovely, especially the 2 geese who seem to be resident there! (And we can walk there) Will be interesting to see if the Taverna gets to open this year. My true favourite is Mandraki, just love it!!! The rustic "Lost" looking beach & the Taverna that serves the best Greek Salads. Still trying to decide if I can volunteer to do the drive there this time?! Fabulous costal road but will it be a bit too "hair raising" for me?!

Try the drive to Kechria Beach from the road that goes up to the Paradise Hotel near Achladies, that's even more fun to drive. Narrower, bumpier but spectacular views.
