I'm sorry to be such a newbie, but how do we get to go to the cinema to see the film? I've read it's a more enjoyable experience (e.g. with a glass or two of something!) in the open air cinema in town, so I'm determined to do it, since I enjoyed it in an ordinary cinema. We saw the cinema last June, but I don't recall seeing anything like a ticket office, or screening times. And do they sell the wine and nibbles inside or is it BYO? I'd hate to get inside and find myself stone cold sober and grumbling belly with no way of dealing with either and I don't think I'd want to go twice just to experience it properly fed and watered!
Walk up Papadiamantis Street (The main shopping street)from the ferry port and it is about 100 yards up there on the right. The ticket office is a table at the front door and usually the screening times are displayed there. The entarnce isn't very big that's why it doesn't look like a cinema.
Dennis, take a tip from a Scotsman. Put your money away and just climb up to the Clock Tower view point with as many pairs of binoculars as required by your party together with any required comestibles. You can clearly see the film from there. Mind you, if you start dancing around, you don't half get some funny looks from the courting couples up there. Bob
It's OK, we know where the cinema is - right opposite Vera's favourite clothes shop! And I've sat at the table too - the favourite clothes shop lady's husband likes to sit at it with a couple of mates and she sent me to sit with them whilst Vera was in the shop, lovely young woman! (But then aren't most Greeks the same?).
Kelso, I fear that at my age, climbing to the clock tower is quite an unappealing thought, especially carrying heavy binoculars! Plus which, surely part of the enjoyment of the film is being with other people who are also enjoying it? When I saw it in UK, I even (to my embarrassment) joined in the global applause at the end - even septuagenarians can make fools of themselves these days! Plus which I quite fancy getting mildly tipsy watching it.
Thank you Tony. As the thread is two years old now, I can report we went, having got tickets early (I persuaded them to start selling early) and had a really great time - just one small downer, we were surrounded by smokers and since I seem to have lost much of my lung capacity to nicotine before I gave up, I struggled to breath at times.
