Well what a storm we've had in Skiathos this afternoon. I've never experienced anything like it. Hail, thunder, lightening & wind made the afternoon very interesting indeed. I heard the fire brigade sirens in Troulos so I hope no serious damage has been done.

It will all have stopped when we get there on Friday.

Unfortunately, due to its low lying situation, Troulos seems to get the worst of it when this happens. I have friends who were there at the end of the season several years ago when there was a storm and they said that all sorts of furniture and equipment was washed out to sea. I saw it myself about five years ago when the road through Troulos was thick in mud after a torrential downpour, but they did an excellent clean up job, very quickly. I just hope that things aren't so bad this time. Bob

Tell them Dennis is coming on Friday, Villa Maria, Troulos, so get out there with the brushes and mops and stuff!

Wow! Some rain there. I hope none of the traders are badly affected. River Papadiamantis! Clears the drains out though.

Although somewhat hijacking this thread to avoid starting another, but we're flying out on Friday morning from Birmingham and are getting very mixed messages from the various online weather forecasting sites that range between no rain at all, to heavy storms again from Saturday July 19th through to the following Wednesday, July 23rd?
Obviously, we're trying to be positive, and have been warned that the BBC Weather isn't always too accurate, but anyone recommend a site that's usually accurate?

Who knows? Accurate - usually I look out the window and that tells me what's happening right now. Tomorrow I leave to the Gods!
Positive side - my iPhone App says sunny and 27 degrees tomorrow and Friday. That takes care of the flight out. It says 27 degrees with cloud and lightning for Saturday, but who cares? - You'll be on holiday! Sunday and Monday back to sunny and 27/28 degrees. I've never been out in Greece with more than a day's bad weather at one time, indeed never more than a few hours (and I've been going in season - some time between May to September for the last zillion years, or since 1969 if you want to be pedantic).
My previous post forecast that after the last storm it would be fine by the time we arrived three days later. I was right - if I hadn't read this thread I would never have known, they had cleared everything up in no time at all (and it truly was a disastrous storm).
So, in summary, you'll have a good flight with no problems, there's a chance you MAY get a bit of a rainstorm some time, but overall you'll have a great holiday and a good flight back home. I am famous for my forecasts. I could earn a fortune, but I believe in altruism or something. ENJOY!

By the way, if you fancy my method of looking out the window, have a look at the main website... www.skiathosboomerang.co.uk/HTML/Information/About%20Us.htmlAnd click on the Information tab, then on the Webcams (only Skiathos Town and Skopelos 2 work, Skopelos 1 is defunct) and you can see it happenning right now! The Skiathos Town one is very difficult to get into, but persevere.

Thanks Dennis.
We know the island very well as this will be our fifth visit, so are really looking forward to landing again. Although at work at the moment, so shouldn't be doing this (!), but I'll certainly try to hook up to the Skiathos Town camera later on tonight!

Skiathos Town webcam just a moment ago (their clock is never right). Poor quality, but you can just see the Flying Dolphin going off and nice sunshine shadows on the Bourtzi.

Hi Dennis, I think that there is usually about a five minute delay on the "live" picture, plus the two hour time difference of course. It's time that you and Vera got back over to Skiathos because this forum has gone very quiet since your return. Chippyminton, if you haven't done so already, it's worth checking on the Skiathian blog. Ian often gives up dates on the weather and what is to come. He also posts his preferred forecast now and again. Just think positive thoughts and I'm sure that you will remember from your previous visits, that when it does rain it usually clears up fairly quickly, leaving the place nice and fresh. The other thing to remember, of course, us that at least it is Greek rain! Bob

Hi Bob. Those clocks run at their own sweet time - I've seen it 10 minutes ahead and 10 minutes behind. And the Skopelos 2 one is just as bad but showing a different time. Guess what? I couldn't care less! I'm just happy to have a "now" view of where I shall be in 8 weeks and two days time. (If you're watching the repeat on Dave or Gold, it'll be less than that! ) Chippyminton, you SHALL go to the ball and you SHALL have a really great time. I can feel it in my bones. Maybe I should start charging for my forecasts? PS. When we arrived on June 20th, Angela (proprietor, Villa Maria) told us that it wasn't yet summer (despite our sweating armpits telling us to the contrary). She told us that it would be summer on Thursday 26th June. And it was. Maybe we should set up a phone call to ask her about next week? Skiathian's blog shows limited accuracy in my experience - and he also shows that weather can vary enormously with very little distance. Indeed, the day Di and I arrived, she reported watching lightning from her balcony in the evening and all I saw was a very pleasant sunset - she was staying at least 500 yards down the road from us. (But it may have been that the 500 yards was the difference between us on the ground floor and her up a 500 yard high hill).
