Yes, we are home after a one and a half hour delay. There seemed to be several flights delayed, with the result that by the time we left, there were three aircraft on the stand, and FIVE lots of passengers in the lounge. If they have air conditioning it wasn't switched on, or just was totally ineffective. It was a relief when we were called for boarding to get outside into the open sunshine!
A tip tip for future returning people - the remaining taverna has very little shade. I always wear a hat to protect my thinning top from the sun because it will burn if I don't. But the holiday hat was packed, so my head is suspiciously red now. I hope I don't feel it tomorrow.
Birmingham arrivals was painfully slow compared to last year - took an hour after landing to get the baggage onto the carousel.
Got it home and our house watching neighbour came across to say all had been fine until yesterday, when he found my pond had turned green, so two Golden Orfes and two Ghost Koi, all of them over a foot long, were belly up. :-(
Anyway, enough of the moans. On 12th September we'll be back at Birmingham heading to Villa Maria again. Are we looking forward to it? Not arf!

Dennis, just like you and Vera we need a second 'fix' to get us through the winter. However, unable to go until October and decided to go again via Thessaloniki and Volos. Don't need the heat, just the views, the people, the food and perhaps the odd beer or three. Staying in town for the first time but really looking forward to it.
I thought about you on 4 July. We weren't sure about how good the new Desires Taverna at the airport was so we pictured lots of people either at the airport, at Amaretto or at Mylos, waiting for these 'delayed' flights to arrive. We were on the Thomson from Manchester and because of the backlog of planes in the air had to circle back to Thessaloniki for more fuel and a later landing slot. Plan A was to be on Mandraki for 15.00 but we didn't arrive at Villa Maria until around 20.30. No worries though - still made it to Vareli for our 1st night meal.
Going off to investigate a countdown ticker. 9 weeks today and we should be arriving by sea from Volos...

Hi dennison
You must have been in the departure area the same time as ourselves but we were delayed more than three hours to Manchester. As you say it was unbearable with no air conditioning but having said that we will be returning on the 27th August but hope this time no delay
I agree with you regarding Desirees. Not only was it hot but it took ages to get a drink.
Patch - so it was your plane we were waiting for on the 4th. Wouldn't have minded staying on the island a bit longer if the facilities at the airport had been better, couldn't get antsy where to sit for over two and a half hours.

Well, it's only 30-odd sleeps now and we'll be sauntering up that path past the fiddle player to the Bourtzi for a nice cold frappé for Vera and an Amstel for me and maybe even a scrabble egg with mastic aroma. Either way, a nice sit down to watch the sea waving and rippling in a lovely warm calm atmosphere.
I really needed my daily login to the webcams this morning - after weeks of hot, dry weather, the rain has come to Keynsham at last, so instead of slogging sweatily in the garden, today I can let my water butts get topped up again. But it's gloomy as the plague and even at 9am we have lights on in the house. So a quick look at sunny Skiathos and Skopelos are just what the doctor ordered.

....... 31 sleeps for us dennisn..... We will definitely be sauntering up to the Bourtzi. How will we recognise you? Well, there will be more than one of me and I usually have a t-shirt with something on and a smallish floppy hat to protect my sensitivity from the sun, glasses that go dark by themselves and handsome. Not a lot of hair (hidden by the hat) and plastic teeth. Rather more stomach than this picture implies (I was drawing it in). Kathos, we shall still be there - flight home on 26th September.

I know how you feel Curly. At the end of next month I shall have to do it all over again to get the tick going for my June 2015 trip. On reflection, maybe I'll investigate whether I can get all three tickers going at once - for this September, next June and next September. That'd be really kool (that's old fashioned for wicked, or amazin').
