Good morning Just a quick post to say hello and introduce myself. I am fairly lucky to have found this island after my folks took me back in 2007. What a fantastic place skiathos is. I got married there in 2010 and have been back year on year. I am always on the lookout for new places to discover on the island. I tend to hire a quad bike each time I go and try to navigate every available inch of the island on the bike or by foot. Each time I go back I discover something new. Hopefully I can offer some advise and maybe learn lots more too. As my name suggests I am partial to the occasional Alfa beer and am yet to discover it in the uk . I am booked in again this year going back in July...on the winter countdown to getting back already Regards, Alfatime

Welcome Alfa, welcome to the forum. It is nice to always see the seasoned Boomeranger join the forum. Hopefully you can pass on your great knowledge of the island to others.
Feel free to join in any conversation and maybe upload past holiday reports, Photos or Video into the relevant threads.

Welcome Alfa... we paid our first visit this year... for other reasons we didn't think we would be lucky enough to go back, but we have booked a week for 1st July... we hired a scooter this year, which was great but hubby is wondering if a quad might get us places the bike didn't, though we didn't do too bad.. Do you recommend where to hire a quad from please?.. Look forward to some quading tips/places to go we missed..

I have no idea how accurate Wikipedia is (I've heard tell it isn't), but here's an extract from there... Until 1960 Alfa beers were only available in the local area (that's Schinnen, Holland), but since then the brewery has expanded, and their beers are now available throughout the Netherlands. Since 1993 Alfa also expanded their distribution to Germany, the United Kingdom, the United States, Greece, and Italy.
I have occasionally heard of Lidl doing Greek, maybe they have Alfa then? Or perhaps they have to do Netherlands?
Then again, I found another web page which describes it as "Traditional Greek beer, since the 1960s", so what do I know. I drink Amstel.

I get the army green 300cc quad from Victoria in town ask for a guy called Nikos who owns the place. (directly opposite the bus terminal) This year I paid 16 euros a day for the hire total 2 weeks. I suppose anything around the 20 euro mark is reasonable with full insurance and never had any issues with them at all. Just be careful on the main road when it is busy as the taxis don’t tend to hang about. If you get a map from the airport it will have all the main roads and tracks on it using the tavernas and points of interest on the map it is fairly easy to navigate using this. My philosophy if off road is if there are tyre tracks in the dirt track it is safe. Some of the off road hills can be a little steep but the quad bike is fine and will get up very steep inclines. A few recommendations to try and find are hidden beach, Kastro, The Dog Shelter in the mountains, Kechria beach, Panorama Pizza (amazing views of Skaithos Town) also if you follow the track past Kanapista taverna there are some lovely views round the bay and lots of nice villas which takes you towards villa Christina. Also take the first right after Muses hotel and the road climbs up towards Agli Elini beach take any of the dirt tracks round there to find Mandraki Beach and the lovely pine forests. Aparantly there is a Donkey Sanctuary in the mountains somewhere which I have not found yet The quads come with a box on the back so great for storing water/towels etc etc. I would also wear a pair of shades as the last thing you want is a bug or dust in your eyes. Also any Monastery listed on the map is worth a visit as you will see signposts for other things on route too. Apologies for my spelling as of some of these places !
