We flagged down a taxi in Troulos to take us to the dog shelter and the driver charged us 8 euros so we asked him to pick us up in a couple of hours. (We did the same last year and were charged the same fare for the return journey) the driver said just phone me when you want picked up and gave us his card. when we phoned the driver he said he would be 20 minutes. 20 minutes later a different driver arrived who said he had been sent by Theo who took us up - as Theo was too busy to come back for us. when we arrived back in Troulos he said we had to pay 18 euros as he had to come from Skiathos town to pick us up! please be aware and don't make the same mistake as we did :-(

Oh Dear that sounds like a con!!! We always make sure we ask how much before we get in a taxi just to make sure now as we have been ripped off before. It used to annoy me when you agreed a price for a taxi and then they pick up another couple and you are all squashed in but I just accept it now and think it's Greek!!

It's common practice in Greece and Spain for the meter on the taxi to start charging from the moment they set off to pick you up. It's a lot cheaper if you flag a taxi down, then you have the upper hand when it comes to haggling!
Mind you, the season is short enough as it is for the taxi folk, they have to live in the winter and I reckon they provide a good service on Skiathos generally.
