kevb and exgreekgod, thank you. Dennis, I love the sound of your Vera, do you think I can borrow her next year so that she can get my holiday act together! :-) Seems to me she is wonderfully efficient and organised. :-):-)

So having packed my case nothing for it but a lovely hot shower. Met with a blast of cold air when opening the shower doors so didn't waste any time this morning in dressing! Layered up and off for a meander along papadiamantis street. Called in a number of shops (mainly to keep warm) then took one of the lanes off papadiamantis looking for somewhere for lunch. Decided I needed a pizza and came across a snack bar that sold them. This bar had no name on it and the menu gave the name in Greek so still had no clue as to what I was eating! I must admit it was quite a colorful establishment. The exterior walls were painted lime green to a point halfway up the building and the tables sported blue legs, chairs were straight backed wooden kitchen chairs with woven straw seats, some left unpainted, others stained red, blue and green, and table cloths were blue, orange and red checked. My table had a green and yellow checked tablecloth.

I ordered the pizza simple, which was a basic cheese topped pizza and asked for tomatoes. I also ordered a coffee with milk. Coffee arrived first, a mug of piping hot coffee with a small bottle of water. Then came the pizza. I knew straight away that I would be lucky to get through it but luck was on my side today! :-):-):-) Just after I had eaten my first piece, an English couple arrived an sat on the table behind me. They had obviously been there before as the owner greeted them warmly and passed them menus. Before they could order I turned around and asked them, if they would like a slice of pizza for their starter as there was far too much for me to eat and it would be a shame to waste it. For a second they looked nonplussed (wouldn't you) but they recovered and the wife accepted! They both had a slice and I suppose that was the icebreaker! :-):-):-)

The meal was followed by a complimentary glass of Greek yoghurt with banana and strawberries, and a strawberry syrup, and a thimble sized glass of ouzo (my first on the island!)
Two hours later I said goodbye to my new friends and called over to papadiamantis house. It closed!!!!
Took a walk along the harbour then came back to hotel to get ready for dinner. Still sat here layered up! :-):-):-):-)

Amy, thank you so much for your diaries. Just to make you feel more at "home" the weather here in the UK (well Yorkshire) is wild, wet & windy! Sure you'll be back soon. We went in 2011 with an "open"mind. And have returned every year since. 2016 looks to be a very special year too

I wonder what flight home you're on, Amy. Our Thomson flight from Birmingham took off about 15 minutes late, like last week, and just now has passed over Watford going through 27,000 feet at 590mph. Yee Haaa. I do hope they are getting in practice at being on time so that there'll be no delay three weeks today. I have a feeling the departure times may be passengers departing through the boarding gates anyway, and so far they have always made up time en route. I was called out on a job yesterday before I could remind you about free wi-fi in Skiathos airport and flightradar24.com so that you could track your incoming flight.

End of Day 14
I had been told that the Mouria taverna was a great place to eat (lane just off papadiamantis) so saved it for my last night. I was not disappointed! A lovely taverna with bouganvillia (?) Both pink and white climbing the walls of the building and covering the top of the exterior wall of the taverna. Although there were only four tables occupied when I entered, it had a nice atmosphere.
I ordered the mushrooms in garlic and wine sauce followed by baked, stuffed fish, glass of red and small bottle of water. The mushrooms were wonderful. The fish was sole, which surprised me as it was a thick fish, baked in the oven with oil and butter, with a crab and shrimp stuffing and topped with a rich, creamy sauce. To finish off it had a twist of lemon for decoration! I don't think I could have ordered anything better and it was a fitting last meal to a lovely holiday. The cost was 22.70 euros, most expensive of the holiday, but worth every cent. I left 25 euros.

Flight TCX2164, Due to depart 9am, currently boarding at Terminal 1 in Manchester, so no indications yet of any delays. The Skopelos webcam shows a bit grotty weather, so I suppose it's not too good on Skiathos. Never mind - it's never a problem if it rains wherever you're not at!

After my meal I took a last walk along the harbour and called in for a coffee at the Gerani. It was packed with only two empty tables, one just inside the covered area and one just outside. Chose the inside table and ordered a latte. Behind met were a Welsh couple and we got chatting. They have been coming to Skiathos for 30 years! They were telling me just how much they love it here and their children are also bringing their own children here!
Once I finished my coffee I called over to the taxi rank to order my taxi for the airport and the driver of one cab gave me a card for his sister's service!
Walked back to the hotel and it was very quiet along papadiamantis.

Day 15 - travel home!
I woke early this morning, opened my balcony doors to very dark clouds and heavy rain! That was 3.5 hours ago and although the rain has lost its strengthen, it is still spitting and occasionally stopping for a minute before starting again!!
I've had my last breakfast, my bags are packed and I only need to call a cab for the airport. If the rain does stop, I may even get another walk in before I leave.

What a pity that your last view of Skiathos will be in the rain, but I hope that your all your wonderful memories will be enough to ensure that you become a Boomeranger. Have a good flight home and thanks again for all your posts. Bob
