Oh no! I've been reading your posts avidly the last few days as I'm flying out to Skiathos tomorrow for two weeks and been considering spending a night or two on Skopelos. I really hope you recover to enjoy your time on Skiathos. Can I ask where you are staying, Maria's breakfasts sound so amazing that they could make my decision for me! Hope you're moving around better in the morning x

Hi panda, I'm at the Melrose apartments. Really comfortable, 800 metres from the centre but easy walking into town. If you do get in here, don't forget your torch, you need it for a short section of the road leading to apartment. Happy holiday whatever you decide.

Oh goodness, Amy. Please get well for Skiathos. Having enjoyed your reports so far I'm really hoping for more of the same when you get to Skiathos.
kevb our day trip went to the port where the ferries land - last week I saw the bow of "our" boat (Ayios Nikolaos) sticking out from the left side of the harbour webcam view - have a look back at my picture on page 3 of this thread where I asked Amy to wave.

Oh dear, Amy, I've just looked at the webcam and the weather appears to have gone all horrible. What time's your boat and will you wave from the designated spot in case I'm still at home and watching?
I have found that Pharmacies vary, so may I recommend the one in Papadiamantis Street in Skiathos town, same side as the cinema and further up. It's quite small (as are they all), but they seem to know what you're talking about. Some others seem to offer alternatives which may suit their tills rather than your ailment.
Whilst mentioning the cinema, are you going to watch Mama Mia? You should.

Hi Dennis, yes it has been very overcast her today but warm. Think it is the same in Skiathos. I don't mind this weather, you can still catch the rays and it's more comfortable I think.
Thanks for the tip 're the chemist. I will check it out later. The cinema trip. Will try and make ....... when in Rome! After reading your feedback yesterday it seems a must do.
My boat is at 16.15 and Maria's husband is taking me down to the port at 3.00pm, so yes I will wave from the designated spot, if he drops me outside!
I have tried posting today but my tablet is playing up, again!!!!! I got everything down in an email, copied to drop in the forum, nothing. Tried again, and again, still nothing. Refreshed, nada. Email looked to be saved in draft form so logged off and back in. EMAIL GONE!!!!! Started again in the forum, thrown out, and decided to call it a day!

Day 8 - 22 May
My last breakfast at the Melrose.
Today my tray contained a plate with 3 warm filo pastry parcels and a sprig of mint. I took my first bite, it was filled with the local cheese Maria uses in her cooking along with just a little fresh mint which gave it that zing. Oh yummy. Ate all three & my sweet went into the fridge!
Maria came to see me and asked how I was and did I need anything! I told her I was fine and asked if she needed me out of the room by noon. She said it was fine to stay and Yorgosh would take me to the port at 3.00 pm!
I'd packed my case last night - took hours hopping about on one leg and using every item of furniture to get around. By the time I had finished I was exhausted so decided to forego my takeaway and go to bed.

After trying unsuccessfully to post this morning I decided there was only one thing I could do and that was eat my sweet! :-) it was delicious. A smallish glass dish filled with thick creamy plain Greek yoghurt topped with four prunes in a thick syrup and sprinkled with nuts. Now I know that a lot of people aren't prune lovers but I am, so my last breakfast was really enjoyable. :-):-)
Being confined to the apartment I was going slightly stir crazy so I decided to test out my foot, having finally squeezing it into my shoe on the second attempt with a dessert spoon, by taking a little walk. I called into see Maria to thank her for her wonderful food & hospitality, and gave her a box of chocolates. She stall refused to take any money for the bandages.
I had just set off when she called me and said that Yorgosh would drive me down!

I had a little limp around and had my last Skopelos coffee and set off back, albeit very slowly.
At about 3.00pm Yorgosh came for my luggage and II said my goodbyes but Maria told me that she was taking me to the port and off we went. Sorry Dennis but she drove into the port and didn't have the opportunity to save goodbye! :-)
I am going to miss her wonderful breakfasts!!!
There were quite a few people waiting so I sat on a bench with an hour to go. Now, you know when you are waiting for a bus and nothing turns up for ages then 3 or 4 arrive in tandem. Well that was what happened at 4.00pm. The first through the harbour was the coastguard, followed immediately by the Panormos, and right behind was the FC5! It didn't end there. Within a couple of minutes the flying dolphin moored!

I decided to hang back until everyone had boarded and slowly limped up the walkway. A crewman came down and took my bag and another helped me board! We took off 5 minutes later and quickly overtook the Panormos. Called in at Glossa and arrived in Skiathos at 17.15. Again I waited until everyone left, retrieved my suitcase which was immediately taken off me and dropped in the port, then helped down the ramp. A taxi driver came up to me, took my case and we were off to my new studio!
Arrived after 5 minutes (cost 11 euros) and the driver deposited my luggage at the top of the steps. Quickly shown my room, brilliant, and I only needed to unpack before I went off to buy some provisions. Opened my balcony doors and my new neighbours greeted me.

We all introduced ourselves, had a chat, was given directions to papadiamantis, and told the supermarket on the corner was great, so I unpacked and went in search of some provisions! Noticed that directly opposite the supermarket was a taverna, so decided that's where I will eat dinner tonight.
Called in the supermarket and stocked up with goodies and when I told the owner (who had noticed me limping) where I was staying he told me to go back and he would bring my shopping to me! I must admit that he eventually caught up with me but he actually brought it right into the studio! I have never met so many kind strangers in such a short space of time in my life!!! I THINK I AM GOING TO LIKE SKIATHOS!!!
So, I am off to dinner now and will let you know how I get on. Oh nearly forgot, my neighbours are Paul & Caroline and when I told them about my fall and going to find a chemist for some arnica cream, she told me she had some and gave it to me!
