3 July 2015. Day one:
Very quiet check in at Manchester. "Let off" with excess baggage charge (3kg over) & take off on time with EnterAir.
Have to say after flying on the Dreamliner earlier this year we were a little concerned as to what to expect on this somewhat "unknown to us airline". Pleasantly surprised. Great seats & really good legroom. John 6' 2" & very comfortable. 35 empty seats. So we enjoyed 3 seats for the price of two! Very smartly dressed staff. (Reminiscent of Tnunderbirds!) Various drinks & snacks on offer included toasted sandwiches. No inflight magazine & no "Duty free" shopping but that didn't bother us.
3hours 15 mins & cases first off!
Hire car picked up. Theodora bar. Yammas:)
Theodora Studios just as we remembered. Maria & family as welcoming as ever. Not forgetting Maggie who always looks after us.
First meal at Avli, Pareskavi. Yummy tapenade & warm bread. Baked spice feta, stuffed mushrooms & peppers, plenty of wine, 20€ pp.
Night cap in Theodora bar.
4 July
A few clouds that looked like they could be bothersome. Still wonderful to sit on the balcony with a coffee listening to the hens & the goats looking over the olive groves down Kolios valley towards the sea.
We managed breakfast just after 9am & sat with a coffee in the bar when realised we had stumbled on our Cosmos welcome meeting. It would have been rude to leave & Dave was such a pleasant person that we sat though all the spiel! So now we know how big the island is, how many bus stops there are, that the beaches are lovely & that you can watch Mamma Mia at the open air cinema - Really!!
It was half 10 before we got away.
Mandraki was the chosen beach. Thought the road was much quieter than normal for this time of year & was pleasantly surprised to have a choice of sunbeds on the beach. Strange to see the kantina at the other side but delighted to find that the "Patatas" (chips) are just as tasty.
Thought we'd lost the sun for the day over lunch as the sky really clouded over. But no, as we finished eating the sun was beaming once again.
Dined at Maria's Pizza. Again about 20€ each. Never disappointed.
5 July
Day at Aselinos Beach. Calmest sea ever.
Evening at Taverna Sklithri
Seriously good. Shrimp Saganski. Fabulous beach front setting. Again, worked out at around 20€ each.
6 July
Morning in town to meet with Anastastia, wedding coordinator. Our son & his fiancée are planning their wedding for next year. Are we excited?
Mid morning drinks at the Bourtzi
Lunch on old port - Sea U
Amazing club sandwich for 6.50€, rocket salad with Parmesan, pomegranate seeds & pine nuts in balsamic & honey dressing 5€
And so, Skiathos Princess wedding? Beautiful but....... Blown away by Vromolimnos Beach!!!
Very Boho ......... Picturing a fabulous time........
Then, directed to LA Piscine Art hotel, Crazy Cow for drinks with Anastastia........ Another wow!
Meal there very good. Forest Mushroom & chicken penne pasta with cream & brandy. 2 courses each, complementary desert, wine.......20€ each. Very nice.
Lots to think about.......
7 July
Happy birthday to me!
Milos with sardines & Calamai for lunch. Bit of plane spotting.
Theodora pool.
Lo & La for birthday dinner. We pre booked by email to ensure a table with a view. We were not disappointed.
Wonderful day.
8 July
Another beautiful day.
Mandraki Elias Beach. Never fail to be amazed by this beach.
Stayed late on the beach so quick stroll to Jimmy's in Paraskevi for dinner.
Ok food, good service, but in my opinion, not our best meal.
9 July
Another beautiful day dawns.
Looks like a morning in town is in order.
Breakfast at Ergon, very nice.
Full afternoon by Theodora pool.
Little India later.
10 July
Vromolimnos beach. Really nice beach & perfectly clear water.
Attikon open air cinema..........Jurassic World
A bit "edgy" at times. Not really my sort of film but I didn't fall asleep!
Quick giros munch at No Name then back for cheeky night cap before falling into bed just before 2am.
Saturday 11 July
Greeted by a cloudy sky. Very lazy morning but managed to cook poached eggs in the apartment! Tip: line a cup/glass with cling film, crack the egg into it & then twist the cling film tightly. Drop into boiling water for 3 to 5 minutes. Lift out & cut film away. Perfect poached eggs & no pan to wash!!
Theodora pool & Kolios Beach for a late lunch.
Beautifully sunny afternoon.
Evening at Kanapista Taverna
Sunday 12 July
Boat trip to Skopolos & Allonisos . Tiring day but lovely way to spend a Sunday.
Shopped on Skopolos & bought a wonderful oil painting. Small, but perfect to remember our trip. Apparently an original by a local artist. We were happy with the 70€ charged & so was he when we paid in cash.
Did the bus up to the old town on Allonisos - stunning views. A second stop on the (I think) west coast of Skopolos only to witness incident with another tourist boat that decided to "crush" the Flying Dolphin! Both boats grounded by port authorities. Our boat was a little fuller on the return to Skiathos!
Drink at The Bourtzi to end the afternoon. Later a really good meal at The Diamond, Kolios. Very reasonably priced with complementary coffee & whisky/brandy/ Baileys. Think 15€ each.
Monday 13 July
Full day at Agia Pareskavi beach. Very hot.
Evening at our favourite - Anatoli Taverna
Black spaghetti with grilled king prawns. To die for.
Tuesday 14 July
Breakfast at Arcinchito in town. Followed by shopping & bit of a photo shoot with our new camera.
Spa visit: bit of a test for wedding guests next year. Mini pedicure & nail paint, 7€7, very professional.
Theodora pool afternoon.
Meal at Porto Paradiso, Vromolimnos Beach. Nice. Amazing sunset.
Back to quiz night at Theodora - we won
Wednesday 15 July
Maratha beach - remembering last year when we stayed at The Palace
Maria's Pizza - Again!
Thursday 16 July
Our last full day. After much discussion we decided to spend a totally relaxing day pool side. It was the right choice.
Lynhari for our final meal. Another good one.
OEach given a small jar of local dried Oregano. Nice touch.
Friday 17 July
And so our little bit of paradise has come to an end.
Hugs & tears & thoughts of next year.
Fabulous holiday. Fabulous people.
YAMAS!
The end
Ps. Flight home an hour late. Coped with that! Bags weighed in at exactly 20kg each. Result!!
PPS. Skiathos wedding next year!!!!!
