Hi all,
we are very much looking forward to returning to Villa Maria in September.I have recently seen a couple of reviews that mention 2 rooms that are separate from the main block and do not have a balcony and are set in to the road? Last year we had a ground floor room in the main block which was lovely-Room1,overlooking the beautiful gardens, but am just wondering if anyone knows anything about these other 2 rooms and if we should be worried about getting one of these?
We have no real preference about being on a particular floor etc but I think some people do make requests.
Maybe Dennis can possibly help with this?.
regards to you all,
Janey.

When you entered Maria, you went down the single flight of steps and room 1 was ahead on your right at the bottom of the steps, behind your left shoulder was the notice board area - flight timings, book swaps. Beyond that are the two rooms in question. (The opposite side of he steps is Angela's family home). They are rooms 15 & 16.
Those two rooms have divided opinions expressed. One hated theirs because it was at the back, not overlooking gardens. Another absolutely loved it and tried to request it for a future visit. I haven't been inside them, but I wouldn't be bothered if we were put in them.
We have stayed in room 1 twice - first time simply because that's where we were put, second time we requested it - we made good friends of Angela and family and were able to phone and email, but we fully accept that rooms can only be allocated with a bit of luck - depends on how the changeovers are running. Third time Angela had said she'd give us room 14, which is next door to room 1, slightly set back. But when we arrived she apologised and had to put us in room 3, just next door but one. Better view of the pool than room 1, but still ground floor for my pool bar room service deliveries over the balcony! We are promised room 4 for our visit in 32 days time - it's at the far end, also set back and recommended by Angela and daughter Stamatia.
Some people prefer rooms higher up - rooms 6 to 13, for better views across the fields.

Thankyou so much Dennis for your informative reply! I appreciate you haven't been in either room 15 or 16,but I just have one more quick question if that's ok?!
Do you know if these rooms have a balcony type area,as sitting outside to relax and enjoy a bit of sunshine is important to us.I don't really mind what the view is but a private space would be lovely.
thanks again,
Janey..

That's the one thing they are missing really - the place for their balcony is by the footpath between the buildings - just like Angela's family's rooms, they have a sort of patio with knee high small walls where the balcony rail would be, but that's all. They don't get sunshine all day long either - the main building will cut it off as the sun moves round.
Neither of those factors bother us - Vera sunbathes by the pool (I hide away from sun) and we spend only a little time on the balcony.

That's OK Janey. Who knows, we might meet up (as we're there at the same time).
PS If you do email Angela, she will need your booking surname to see if she can help - she gets a list sometime in advance of who's arriving, and when.

Indeed,I will look out for you Dennis, although I definately won't be up and swimming in the sea as early as you and Vera! ? I will probably be up,but having my first coffee of the day on the balcony! I may email Angela, but I don't want to appear rude and say I don't want room 15 or 16 if you see what I mean?i would honestly be happy with any room in the main block,I would just like to be diplomatic about it. Any advice??

Maybe if you email and say you've been chatting to Dennis on the internet and he thinks you might be able to give me a nice room? She may remember you if you tell her your surname and say you were in Room 1. Maybe request room 1, or 14 or 2, 3, or 4 (but we are supposed to be getting 4 arriving three days after you). Jules and Lee, VERY good friends of Angela, arrive same day as you and they too have preferences (but I don't know what). You will remember that Angela speaks very good English and maybe you might think of asking for her phone number in your email so that you can ask about rooms? Here's a picture marked with the room numbers and you'll remember the outlook is towards the south west, this picture about midday shows shade under the balcony awnings. Rooms 15 and 16 are behind and opposite room 4. I really must ask Angela why room 14 is on the ground floor, no logic to it in my mind. EDIT - Thanks to Derbyshirelass - I have the top floor wrongly numbered, they are the other way round - thirteen to ten, not ten to thirteen

May I recommend room 10? Especially if you wear high heeled stillettos (or tap shoes) and come clopping back at midnight like some.

No problem Dennis,I am a very considerate neighbour.......I don't possess a single pair of stilettos and I don't clomp back at midnight either......my alcohol intake is pretty much a glass of something on my birthday and at Christmas!! have you had a bad experience of a stilettoed tap dancer in room 10??!! My husband Mike on the other hand is partial to both stilettos and a few cocktails!!!! ??
