Sounds like you got to see more of Skopelos in 1.5 days then I did in six! I never did find the bus station whilst I was there hence the reason I didn't get further than the town but I did fancy a trip to Panormos. The highest I managed to climb from the harbour was to the little white church and from where I was staying up the back road (probably in the area of the rooms you stayed in). You really packed it in. Did it satisfy your curiosity or would you do another trip there?
I think that I might just give up on goat unless on my forthcoming trip I can force myself to purchase a gyros! ;-)

Amy, back in the mists of time, before you were born, 50 years ago, I was posted to Cyprus in the RAF. I declined the local kebabs for 18 months, then one day when we had a visitor I tried a bite and immediately castigated myself for what I had been missing. If you don't report that you have tried a gyros this trip, I shall ask the Good Lord to give you a good castigating.
You're almost here - where are you flying from?

Did it satisfy your curiosity or would you do another trip there? I'd probably go back again. If I was staying longer on Skopelos I'd probably look for a longer holiday that I could spend partly on Skopelos and second half back on Skiathos so I'd be at the right place to link up with return flight. Work at moment really only allows me a 7night holiday each time. The ferry inbound actually stopped at Glossa as well so it might be feasible to stay there, though on the return it just went from Skopelos town straight back to Skiathos so you'd have to go from Glossa back to town to be sure of getting back! Surprised you didn't spot the bus station, it's only about 10 yards further down the harbour from where the ferry comes in. It's not very well advertised, just an open air seating area with roof and a layby next to it where the buses come in. Some of the buses are quite smart, you might have mistaken them for tourist transfer buses (they probably double as both on some days!). The timetable was just a white board with some destinations and leaving times on, it's all very laid back. I had to ask the driver when I got off what time he'd be back through Panormos as there wasn't much info at the stop at that end. They don't run all that regularly, maybe one per hour or so to some places. It took just over 30min by bus from town to Panormos so I'm guessing town to Glossa is probably an hour as it's so far north and Skopelos is about 3 times the size of Skiathos. So I got the 12:30 bus out there, had a long leisurely lunch and a bit of a read and caught the bus back around 3pm, back to Skopelos town around 3:30 and ferry left at 4:30.

Hi Kevb now you mention it,I think I did see it but didn't see any buses. Must have all been out whenever I passed. A good point for the future should I take a trip back to Skopelos. If Skiathos is on the cards for next year, I may even do a visit to Alonissos. Didn't manage a boat trip there in May.
Dennis, I fly from Manchester on Friday, arriving in Skiathos around 1.15 pm, if all goes to plan. Keeping everything crossed that there are no delays. Flight is at 7.35 am so will be in a taxi to the airport around 4.30 am. Not looking forward to that! Finished work 2 hours earlier today and the same tomorrow in the hope that everything will be done and dusted tomorrow night. Methinks I may need a nice glass of red to help me get some sleep before my very early rise Friday morning. :-)
Will see about the gyros. Still not convinced!

Thanks Bob and Kevb, I am booked into the Dream House in Aghia Pareskevi. Down the side of the Roulla Apartments and just passed the Pegasus taverna. Doesn't have a pool but I believe a nice little eating place on-site. Some excellent write-up on TA.

If you wander along to Kolios, Amy, don't forget to try out Infinity Blue, just up the lane at BS 15 and follow that up with a night cap, or two, at the wonderful Xanthi Bar, just another 50 yards up the lane past IB. A great night. Bob

Hi Bob I passed both when I visited my brother in May and thought about paying a visit. There is also the Diamond apartments further along but not sure if that is residents only. I have also eaten at the Pegasus, my first fab meal on Skiathos, and where I plan on paying a visit and I ate at the Kohyli, near Bs 15 too, so a few to go at. There is also the taverna where I am staying, not to mention the tavernas close by in Troulos. Gosh, I think I am going to have to keep coming back to try all the different tavernas, restaurants and watering holes that Skiathos has to offer! :-):-)
I do plan on a meal or two in town. Have to go back to the Mourfia (not sure that is correct spelling) but know where it is as their baked fish is glorious, then there is Maria's for a pizza. Not forgetting all the recommendations on her. My head is spinning with them all!
Must also try the taverna on Kanapitsa beach (really like that beach) enjoyed a glass of red there in May - so many places and so little time!
Just taking a break from my packing - love holidays, hate packing! Must get back to it though or I won't manage to get a couple of hours sleep before the taxi arrives in the morning!

Yes, Skiathos Diamond serve non residents. I enjoyed a very nice Kleftico in Kohili. There is also Avli which is very close to where you are staying and of course you just can't miss out Green Park............... There just isn't enough time! Bob

Of course there's time to try them all Amy, all you need to do is start at 8am and move around without stopping chewing. But do remember that if you plan to carry on beyond 7pm, it's often wise to book (e.g. we go to Salt and Pepper at 6pm so that we don't have to). You should be close to the airport now, so when you've dropped your baggage you can start planning the mouth tour.

Well, Amy, if you can get a connection at Manchester, not long to go now. And it's shaping up to be a lovely day, weather-wise, so I wouldn't expect any delays other than the ones which are deliberate (e.g. Thomson Luton is already marked as delayed and it's not scheduled to take off for ages yet - every week it's the same). We'll be off to the beach soon and I'll look you up on flightradar24 when we get back.

Hi Amy, another Taverna you should visit is Orsa, next to Bus Stop 16, great food, great owners Theo & his lovely wife Orsa. Have stayed in AP for the last 9 years & only tried Orsa Taverna for the first time last year. It's now one of our faves. We always visit Skiathos Diamond Taverna too, Christos, Soula & their children are so lovely. Then we call in at Xanthi for a drink or 3! Have a great holiday....

Of course there are loads of places to eat in Town but this year the best (and most expensive, but not silly prices) two meals I had all week were in town at 1901 and Ricci&Poveri. I think they are both listed on the street map you get free at the airport but R&P proved a bit awkward to find, that map really needs to be in 3-D ;-). If you want to find R&P (its a tapas Mediterranean restaurant not typical Greek)then go to the old part of the harbour, go up a level up to where O Batis is, go past O Batis so it is on your right hand side and it looks like you are walking into a cul de sac, but no! just around the next corner on the left is the small R&P restaurant. If you want a table out the front looking out over the harbour/ Bourtzi you might have to book in advance but at this time of year it'll be getting quieter. They only look to have around 10-12 tables in the whole place, nice atmosphere.
