I've lurked on this forum for a while now, enjoying all the posts so feel I should give something back! Late arrival from Stansted yesterday, therefore no usual afternoon at pool. We are staying in the Paradise Hotel in Katsarou - our 3rd visit there. Ate in Anastasia's at the hotel - great quality and free dessert which was lovely. Got taxi into town, walked Papadiamantis St and then visited the new bar Drift In - new this year, had only 1 drink as very tired. Returned to hotel for a nightcap before bed. Long lie in on Sat morn to catch up on missed sleep, my boyfriend collected the quad (he wanted a moped, as usual, but police crackdown this year has tightened up on the laws and his licence doesn't cover bikes) and we went into town to the bakery at back of town to get croissants (very good!). We then made the journey to the far end of the Island to Ambelakia beach (down steep steps behind the abandoned Xenia hotel in Koukanaries). This beach was a favourite of ours 12 years ago when there were no facilities and we stumbled upon it one day out exploring. Now there's a very upmarket beach bar called Mystique (been there a couple of years) where all the beautiful people hang out in August but there were plenty of beds available and although the 2 beds + brolly are €10, there is a free bottle of chilled water delivered to your lounger as well. I get sand everywhere as it is but it would be a nightmare if i was lying directly on the sand, therefore we always get beds. Lovely chilled out day snoozing and sunbathing. Sat night we ate in the old harbour, don't know the name of the restaurant but at the bottom of the steps, turn right along the water edge, restaurant beside Ginfish - nice meal reasonably priced (lovely tzatiki, but skimpy with the bread). Then up Papadiamantis St to Main Str for a few drinks and a bit of people watching :-). Much less people around compared to height of summer but temperatures still allow al fresco dining and late drinks. Back to hotel for a nightcap and looking forward to tomorrow.
