Hi,
I haven't been to Skiathos yet so hope I'm welcome on your forum. Skiathos is top of my short list for next summer so thought I'd join this forum to see why you people love it so much.
I'd like to introduce myself as a Greece lover, particularly the Greek islands as you might have guessed from my user name. My husband and I try and visit Greece as often as we can, sometimes with my sister and her husband. This year we're taking a break and going to Croatia but we will definitely be back in greece next year.
Places we've been to include thassos, Rhodes, Crete x2, Zante x2, Kos x2, Corfu x3, Santorini. Hope I haven't missed any out. Skiathos has been on our shortlist for a few years but we haven't made it there yet. It is a strong probability for next year and once we decide for definite we will book. I have to go during school holidays and usually book about a year in advance so I'm doing some serious research now with a view to booking.
I look forward to reading all your posts.

Skiathos will not disappoint We're back on Friday for 3 weeks. First visited 2011 when our son proposed to his girlfriend. Next week they are getting married at Porto Paradiso, Vromolimnos Beach:) How excited are we?

Don't pay too much attention to Tre - like me, she's annoyed she didn't discover Skiathos many years ago and she's all bitter and twisted about it.
She would say she has four sleeps to go, whereas I have only three shaves to go. She can hardly be considered a reputable source of comment, not when she's got 30 kilos luggage allowance - she'll be marshalling the lot of them like some modern day Doctor Livingstone.
Here's my two valuable tips.
1. Fly with Thomson - they don't have the drama that regularly blights Thomas Cook.
2. On the outbound flight, do a wee on the plane before seat belts for the landing - arrivals lounge is cursed with VERY limited numbers of toilets and VERY long queues of people who foolishly partook of drinks from the trolley.
Welcome to the forum for decent information about Skiathos.

Welcome to the forum Island Lady. I hope it can give you the needed information you require for your decision. If not, just ask.
You will not be disappointed with Skiathos. Why would so many people call it the Boomerang Island if they didn't want to keep returning.

welcome, if you like thassos you will like skiathos, we went to thassas 5 times loved it, then i persuaded husband to try skiathos when i had been 15 years before, now been here 5 times, its like coming home, the best beaches, the friendliest people good buses , lits of boat trips other islands to visit, it has it all. we've visited Thassos, kefalonia, corfu, samos, lesbos, crete, lefkas ,santorini, mykonos and tinos, skiathos beats them all. Never been anywhere else when after a year, walking by a taverna we visited a couple of times the previous year, the owner comes out and greats you by name. we've always used thomas cook (book our own accommodation) and been lucky but next year trying agean airways

thank you Cariad. We definitely like what we've seen and heard so far. We've decided to wait until we return from this year's holiday before booking but until then we'll keep visiting websites to decide on where exactly we want to stay.

Snap, that's where we stayed, in the Sunray Hotel. It was a lovely place.
Do Agean fly directly into Skiathos or do you have to go via the mainland? I think we'll go with Thomas Cook as they go from Bristol which suits us fine. I really want to book flight and accommodation separately as we can book 2 accommodations in 2 different areas.
I've tried contacting a few properties but they're contracted out to the TOs. I originally wanted to stay in the town and Koukanaries but I'm open to suggestions. does anybody have some names of properties with pools where we can book direct please?
Thank you

Have you looked on booking.com? I know it is not the same as booking direct with the owners but is another option.

Ahh, of course, they will still be dealing with availability for this year. :-) ok, I can't comment on Koukanaries but in Aghia Paraskevi there is Elisabeth Studios where I stayed this year. Although contracted to TOs she keeps some back for independent visitors and they have a pool. Then you have Calma restaurant on the same lane that has studios but they have a different name with a pool. However they also have 3 separate villa accommodation called Calma cottages which are on a different lane but you can book direct on their website. You also have Jimmy's Studios which is an Olympic establishment with a pool but not sure if they have independent rooms but I suppose you could try them. In town, I have only stayed at the Thymi's House hotel (booking.com) but they have their own website. Fabulously comfortable beds but miniscule veranda, which is a definite squash for two people. No view, tiny pool and just off Papadiamantis Street.
