Not quite sure what I've let myself in for here but... Mum was feeling a bit down recently (Dad passed away in August) so I mentioned I could take her to Skiathos next year as she would never have been able to go with dad (last 6 years he was a dialysis patient) and after having a think about it she's on board! As we live 75 miles apart and she's not very computer savvy it hasn't been possible to sit down and look at packages with her so (having read on here that the flight prices seemed to be on the up for 2017) I got on the case and have booked flights in August (out on 11th, return 18th). Now comes the tricky bit, if anyone has contact details of apartment complexes you have been to that I can get in touch with direct and the typical price you expect I'll be paying for a week in August for somewhere with 2 separate bedrooms. I found a few online but they look a bit remote (except one v close to town) or very expensive. Other places that come up in package deals don't seem to have prices available yet for next summer or are again a bit pricey. Any recommendations for a good deal? Somewhere with a communal pool would be preferred. If you prefer to do it via personal message that's fine, I just need to get some ballpark figures and ideas. I've already contacted the Sunset apts in Kouk as I liked it there but no price comes up when I try to do an online booking, have emailed them but no reply yet. Once I have all the details sorted I will post to the 'when are you going in 2017' thread.

Hi Kev, Theodora, Kolios has a 2 bed apartment. Really lovely with good pool scene. Unsure of prices as they don't offer it as a package. Most of the rooms & pool area underwent a total renovation last year. See the link ; theodora-studios-skiathos.comWoody may confirm whether or not Diamond, Kolios have 2 bedroomed accomm. Oh, just to add, what a fabulous thing you are doing for your mum.

Woody may confirm whether or not Diamond, Kolios have 2 bedroomed accomm. I'm not quite sure if they have two bed apartments, but I remember somebody saying that they have adjoining rooms with a door between them. Visit skiathosdiamond.com/ and contact Soula who will let you know for sure. We haven't visited since 2013, but then we paid €50 per day per apartment. Woody

Thanks for the replies folks. I think I'd prefer to be a bit closer to a bus stop than some of th esuggestions so far, I'm not planning to hire a car but it might come to it. Anyone know of the 'maria apartments' that seem to be up near bus stop 4 or thereabouts, more or less due north of the top end of pap street? 7 nights in August for £505 for a 2 bedroom apt, seems like a good deal but there are no reviews on tripadvisor.

The Theodora and Diamond are probably less than 5 minutes walk from Bus Stop 15.

OK, cheers for the update. Was just going by some of the photos, may send them an email. Going flight/accomm as separate bookings is never going to be cheap but we will find somewhere suitable I'm sure. Sadly the Sunset in Kouk couldn't offer anything in the week we are staying, quite liked it there.

Sure you'll find something suitable Kev. Never stayed there, but have you looked at the Marina? Classed as Kolios but more Agia Pareskevi. Until this last season they were with Thomson, but apparently now independent.

Just had a quick look at the Marina, looks nice but it's £69 each per night if we have a room each, bit pricier than I was looking for. I've emailed the Taxiarchis in town the other day, still not replied. I tried a provisional booking for the maria apt and theyve turned the booking down! what's the point advertising it as being available if they then say its not available when you book it? bizarre. If we'd been a party of 5 teenagers I might be a bit sympathetic.

the oasis in town has one or two bed appartments and im sure mike would go out of his way to make your mum welcome ,as he does everyone but he gets booked up very quickly. Hes with thomas cook but keeps some apartments back to rent privately, his e mazil address on the website. i remember someone asking a similar question om TA to house teenage children someone mentioned a couple of places in troulos with seperate bedrooms. what about the alykon in town right by bus terminus overlooking harbour ask the price of two seperate rooms. I/m sure your mum will really appreciate what you are doing and love skiathos.

Once again thanks for all the input guys, I think I'm now sorted. Found us a self catering studio each, close enough to town to walk but also close to a bus stop for further afield. Short walk to a beach, pool with pool bar. And the winner is.................. Nicolas Studios & apartments, Megali Ammos. Anyobody been? seems to tick all the right boxes, think mum will be pleased.

heard good reports if you just cross the road you come to angeliki hotel walk through to gardens which slope down to the beach swell bar in grounds superb for lunch looking out on megali beach. Also turn left out of grounds about 50 yards to thessonlika taverna right on beach very good if you dont want to walk or bus into town one night check reviews. Also right at the end of beach twilight taverna very good too raised up lovely views. good area overall very reasonable for taxis in or back from town if you dont want to use the bus. very easy to get the bus to go to beaches in the day further afield, supermarket right by bus stop too, think you will be very pleased.

Yes, I was thinking along same lines. I actually had lunch at Swells last time I went (2015) with a couple who were getting married the day after I was due to fly home (some on here may know her - SimplyJules from tripadvisor?). Couldnt really justify the cost of Angeliki (at least £70 per day at time we are going) and they don't have a pool of course. It does look nice sitting right up to the beach though. If the Nicolas is on other side of road then presumably will be on correct side to hop on a bus to Kouk etc? Walked past Thessoloniki on the beach on another previous visit but never eaten there so can go on the 'to do' list. I'll also get mum down to the harbour to look at possible boat trips later in the week.

Great to see your plans coming together Kev. I'm sure that your mum will get the Skiathos bug and become a Boomeranger herself! Bob

yes you are going at most expensive time, its cheaper to book direct with nicos but he gets booked up early. yes i met julie when having lunch there one day, followed her posts from first visit to getting married, she kindly sent me some wedding pics ive stayed at aphrodite too next door nicos cousin ! we found when we stood at bus stop taxis often pulled up offering to take us to beaches or town often with another couple, bit of haggling over price usually got it for 5-6 euros same as 2 bus fares and it saves them travelling empty.
