Oh and to add - we're in our room in Troulos shortly after midday and in the pool shortly after that. Then returning we leave the room at 9:30, no getting out and moping around all day. We even get back to BHX in time to beat the M42 rush hour - but they always take so long to deliver our luggage to the carousel that we get out in the middle of rush hour!

trebor, some flights stop over at Volos or Kavala for refuelling on the way home. No big issue but can add 45 mins to an hour on the journey. Can't see though why the journey time would be 7 hours!! A quick check shows EMA return flights (Friday) leave at 18:50 landing at 22:05, 5hours 15 mins ?? (After allowing for 2 hour time difference) Thanks for the correction Tre - my 12 hour and 24 hour clocks got mixed up when doing the sums. However when the flight is described as direct I would not expect a refueling stop on the way - i have been on much longer flights where it has not been necessary.

EMA is not too far from Birmingham airport, won't that do? We fly from BHX and have to endure a two hour drive from our home, setting off at 3am! Very true Dennis - just very annoying that when we find the very rare island that has flights from EMA that because of a stupid airline it is better to choose an airport another hour's drive away. I suppose it is a case of deciding which is worse - an extra hour travel at each end or an extra 1.5 hours in the return flight. Another consideration would also be the Thomson flight instead of Thomas Cook - our experience with the latter is not the best.

We stay like Dennis in Troulos, in fact last year, (our 3rd visit)we stayed in the same accommodation seeing Dennis and Vera for a few days too... we Troulos and prefer to try different accommodation each time, so this year we are booked into Boudouriani apts just around the corner, we used their bar late in the evenings a lot last year as we have a car for the whole holiday and eat all over the island/in town then back to Troulos last off and we were made so welcome we decided to book to stay at Boudouriani for this year...we love the town too but Troulos has really grabbed us, we love it... I am lucky that my hubby saves a little each week of the year just to pay for the luxury of hiring a jimny and we use it everyday, my hubby doesn't really drink except last off when the car is parked up so we don't use the buses, but I wouldn't hesitate to if we had to, to get about as the whole Island is just so beautiful... Trebor, I do hope you book.... one more thing, we were going to try East Mids for this year instead of Manchester... but the same hol was £300 more from there! Also, our first 2 visits were with Thomas Cook, both times stopping for refuelling at Volos, for me a nightmare adding onto time getting home, last 2 hols with Thomson, no stopping with them, just something to think about...

Thanks Di We had decided to go to Troulos and (probably influenced by Dennis as well as other excellent reviews) stay at Villa Maria. I do not think that decision will change - just a matter of deciding which flight / airport.

Skiathos has changed all that and he looks at photo's on the forums every single day...

I always get excited about our overseas holidays - in fact all holidays - despite the advancing years still a child at heart. My favourite has always been Greece and this will be about our 20th Greek holiday - only once before have we returned to the same resort (which happened to be the same accommodation) - we had a break of several years but the withdrawal symptoms became too strong and we returned to the fold a few years ago - I have this dream of visiting every Greek Island but unfortunately the choices are now becoming very limited unless you travel independently and we have also now become averse to airport/island to island transfers. It would be great if we could just say "beam me up Scotty" and we would arrive at our chosen destination.
As to which date - we were planning on July 7th but if we change to Birmingham flights we will have a few more options so that may change.
I think we will sleep on it and make a decision tomorrow - after having made a decision and almost booked this hiccup has dampened my spirits slightly - but not for long:-)

As I recall, Thomson flights manage without the re fuel stop but most Thomas Cook flight have to stop. Something about the size of the aircraft & the short runway. We've chosen a very different option this year ; flying with Aegean via Athens. A saving against TC of £400+ !! Mmm?? We'll see how it goes........
