Why is there no street view for Skiathos on Google Maps yet?
I mean, it wouldn't take them long!

I wish there was one too.... before we went to Kalamaki in Zante I used to travel around the resort via google map and would love to do the same for Skiathos...

Funnily enough I asked about that either here or on the other forum a few years back. The suggestion was that most of town would be off limits as they couldnt get a car down it and some of the dirt tracks wouldnt be easy to get down with the little car with all its contraptions on it. I still think it's worth a shot and as OP says its probably no more than 2 or 3 days work especially if they did it out of season so little traffic about. Imagine doing a 'virtual trip' to Kastro ! If they came up with sme sort of hand held version to cover all the little pedestrianised streets it would end lots of 'where exactly is such and such a bar?' posts. Might put Ian 'Skiathoslover' out of a job on TA though ;-)

I've done exactly the same thing for Tenerife, Cyprus and Rhodes where I was going somewhere I'd not been to and wanted to either get some feel of the local area around the hotel or some potential driving days out so I could see a few landmarks and remember them, very useful indeed.

What are all the streets in Skiathos called, and how can I find out?
Few appear to have names.

What are all the streets in Skiathos called, and how can I find out? Few appear to have names. Walk into them and look slightly upwards. If they have names, it will be written on a sort of sign shaped thingy. Pick up the free map which is on display in the airport arrivals hall baggage reclaim area. It has the island on one side and town on the other. It must be said that the number of streets actually named on the town map is very limited. What's annoying for me is that before our first visit in 2013, I got on the internet and bought a map for a few pounds, only to discover it was exactly the same as the free one! Fortunately the town and the island are small enough to help you to not get lost - nowhere is really far from anywhere else - point yourself towards the sun and get going, you'll get somewhere fairly soon!

Aye, I've never been 'lost' as such, but naming streets (and knowing their names) is a big help when finding your way around.
I wish I were retired. I'd love to spend a good few weeks exploring and getting to know the island and down better.
As it is, when you go for a fortnight every year or two you feel duty bound to get the most for your money and lay on the beach.
I still want to go to the north and the old capital at Kastro, the monasteries, and to the highest point at Karafiltzanaka. But with two kids we've not even done a boat tour round the island, or been to Lalaria beach.

By the way, does anyone have a high res scan of one of those free maps?

Just use Google maps, it's too big to scan.
