Some excellent reports coming through this year already, they're really helping me to look forward to my holidays.
Please, if you feel able, keep us up to date with how your network is doing with data roaming internet access, speeds, etc.
Things to consider:
- Has you network let you know data roaming is free? - Have they put limits on this? - Has it been easy? - What network are you on (a) at home and (b) on Skiathos? - What speeds are you getting? - How's the wi-fi doing in your hotel/the tavernas? - What's the 3G/4G signal like in your hotel/town/favourite beach/resort? - Anything else I've forgotten?
I'm on EE over here which is fast and has great coverage, but that doesn't mean the network they have a deal with in Skiathos is the best.
I don't expect anyone to put their holiday on hold for even a second to supply this information, just note what you can if you feel able.
Cheers. And keep the excellent reports coming.

I'm on EE here at home. Had text to say full use of uk allowance in Europe (we are still in Europe!) with effect from 15 June. Previously I've only ever used free wifi when in Skiathos, sometimes slow but not really a problem. I use an iPhone 7plus, 4g but always kept data roaming off to prevent charges. So all I can say is that I'll report back in just over 12 days......

I too am with EE but Ive only got 1GB of data a month on my plan (100% up from Vodafone who I only had 500mb with until Dec last year)... I too was pleased when I got the email saying my plan would work exactly the same when I'm in Skiathos... now this pleased me, but I know from going away with our caravan etc, my 1GB actually can soon dwindle, so I popped into EE shop yesterday to ask if I could top up my data before I go off on holiday?.... no, I have to do it via my app over there and they spoke so fast in the shop, I'm not entirely sure what I can and cannot do?.... obviously I will log into free wifi when I can, but I would love to post on FB when I'm up in the hills, or on a lovely beach, so I know my data will soon run out....

Suppose I'm fortunate, qualify for "staff discount" (In OH's name through Dixons Carphone) so I get 7GB monthly ......better milk it then! No excuse for me not posting then..... 12 days.....

Di, are you under contract or sim only?
I'm with EE, sim only (paid off my phone 6 months ago) and I've been told you can change your plan as often as you like, then swap back later - I think the only limitation is you've got to be on the plan for a month.
If so, you could swap to another plan before you go, then swap back when you return and you'll only have paid the extra for 1 month. This might be a good idea for you, if you're worried that 1GB may not last you.
I'm on 16GB at the moment. It would cost me £5 to swap to 30GB. I think I might do that, as I don't think £5 is a lot to pay for peace of mind. I usually use most of my 16GB a month at home, and it'd be nice to have a little leeway, given that just an extra 1GB will cost a fortune as a top up while I'm over there.
From what I can tell EE do appear to have a data roaming cap of 15GB. So of my 16GB I can use 15GB over there (if I need to - I can't imagine I will) with 1GB I can only use in the UK. If I swap to 30GB I'll still only be able to use 15GB in Skiathos, but I'll have 15GB more left for when I get back.
I'm a bit of a news junkie - my default channel at home is BBC News 24. As I won't have access to this in Greece I suspect I'll be checking it on mu 'phone a little more than usual. Add to that uploading pics and videos to FB, and I'd rather have a little room to spare.

Wow! 16GB monthly!! Thought I had a fab tariff. We only use 20 to 25GB on wifi monthly for all the appliances at home. Then again we don't stream films or TV. Don't forget you can always dip in & out of the free wifi available at many places. I seriously wouldn't be concerned if you have 16GB
Di, look at add-ons for peace of mind. With EE on my contract it's £6.99 for another 1GB which lasts for 7 days of £19.99 for another 10GB lasting 30 days.
I'm sure the only English TV channel we get in Skiathos is News 24. Usually put it on first thing to check the latest news & weather.

I think you're right about the 16GB.
However, as it's only £5 to upgrade for the month, I think it's worth it just for the piece of mind.
It's not that I think I'll use 15 or 16GB while I'm there. But I usually use c.15 a month. So if I use just a little more than usual while I'm there, I'd run out before the month's end back home.

Tre... Ive read that info re the £19.99 for 10GB add on and I might go for that actually especially if I can pick 4G up as opposed to 3G as it can be faster than some establishments wifi and I will be able to use it anywhere anytime but you have to wait until you are abroad to do the add on, I hoped I could do it beforehand then its all done. Its like I wrote in that post re costs etc, if something you pay for feels good to you then its not expensive really and peace of mind of extra data is something I will make use of.. I have grandchildren on my instagram and imessaging!! 😀👍🏼

I am keenly waiting to see what we get by way of 4G out there. Here in UK, 4G upload is way faster than my home broadband (70Mb download, but only 5Mb upload!).

That's exactly what I said in the meadowhall shop last week! Why cant I just buy it before.... actually now I think Tre... we fly on the 11th which is the day my monthly contract kicks in for the month, so actually it wouldn't make sense to buy it on the 10th say..... as you cant carry data over?... so unless I can do it just before we board on the 11th?, what dya think?

I'm hoping for 4G coverage too Dennis... and I'm hopefully going to add on 10GB of data so I can use my phone faster than some establishments wifi?

Di, Sent you another screen shot. Can't do pics on here quickly!! Basically the ap say: "So if you're buying a roaming add-on to go abroad, you're better off getting it right before you leave" Have a look through info on your ap & you should find the screen I refer to. The 30 days look to start immediately, not connected to your monthly "plan dates" Hope this helps.
