Maximum adult bus fare €2 sorry can't help with child fares. As for taxis; pre booked, a lot! But taking one that stops for you at the bus stop, Anything from €10 upwards probably more like €15. Can't remember what we paid to be honest. From bus stop 15, we usually manage €7 or €8 but then they do get 2 more in for another €7 or €8! For a taxi from the rank in town we have been charged €15 to bus stop 15.

Cheers for that, we'll just have to see how it goes.
SWMBO has an idea we'll be sticking around Koukounaries a lot more than we did around Achladies, where there are fewer tavernas.
To be honest, whilst there are more in Koukounaries, I'm not sure there's a huge amount more. I think I've counted up around 15 tavernas, but some of those look on the edge of walking distance, some look very pricey, and some look like they're possibly only open for beach visitors during the day, so that's a choice of maybe 10 against around 4 at Achladies.
I suspect we'll be heading to town more often than she thinks (every other night?).

You could just go half way and drop off in Troulos, some nice restaurants there too. My fave in Kouk is probably Big Bad Wolf (as long as the mozzies arent out in force) but most of the others seemed OK too, Strofilia down the far end is nice and rustic and the BBQ night at Mandraki Village (which is close to BBW and thus closer to the 'Palace end' of Kouk) is good. Even the restaurant attached to the Caravos Hotel (Stamalos) was fine when I tried that one night, nice Kleftico but that was 5 years back.

You may find that children travel free on the buses - I don't know what the age limit is, so when the conductor comes along, just wave at the four of you and ask for a stop number and maybe you'll ony be charged for two.
As usual, I could be wrong, but I have noticed school children not paying to go home from school.

Yorkshiremouth are you on any of the Skiathos FB sites? If not, I'll post a question for you about child fares on the buses. I tend to agree with you that you'll want to venture into town often. As I mentioned before, with young children, the walk from the Palace to Kouk in the evening can be a tad....well...busy road wise. That said, don't get stressing!! Lol. Lovely place to stay To add, as well as Troulos, Bust stop 16 Agia Pareskevi, is a lovely area with plenty of choice of tavernas. Including a decent Pizza place but can't think of the name at the mo.

Boubounakia Pizzeria! Ooh & not forgetting up behind Iguana at bus stop 16 there is Mistrali with a lovely grassed play area for the children. And now I have to mention Taverna Avli in the same area. Fabulous food & service.

Thanks for the information.
I'm on Skiathos Old Boomerangers, Skiathos Friends and Skiathos Lovers.
Isn't this all a bit People's Front of Judea?

There is also the Pegasus just after Avli and Mistrali which also has a large garden area with child friendly items.

Yorkshiremouth- we noticed that the Mandraki seems to have developed the hotel restaurant this year, separate from Elias. It's called either the White Room, or the White Restaurant and has an advertising board on the pavement outside. Looked good (and we know their buffet breakfasts are fab). The Stamelos restaurant was also very good this year - the new owner is a Yorkshireman! We think the BBW is overpriced for what it is.
Enjoy! ..........
