Day 1; the drive to Copthorne Effingham Gatwick. We know this is a decent hotel as we've used it before and always had a good experience. Although this isn't officially the first day of our holiday I class handing my key fob to the hotel staff the holiday start. I can relax and chill ready for our 09:45 flight.
Our holidays always begin with a long and laborious drive from Sheringham to Gatwick. It doesn't matter what time of day you hit the M25 it's always a case of having to use your patience as you stop start stop start your way over the Dartford River Crossing, however the introduction of online pre payment saved about 20 minutes and untold frustration .
Overall the journey took just a tad over 3 hours and now we're sat in the hotel bar drinking our first holiday beverages. An early night is then on the cards; 5:00am wake up call tomorrow morning., so all we're going to do for now sit here, enjoy another drink or two soaking up the holiday atmosphere then we'll retire.
5am will soon be here; we'll be on that bus to Gatwick South for our flight. We're flying with ENTER AIR; a Polish Charter airline who act as carriers for Olympic Holidays. I've read mixed opinions about them; I'll have first hand knowledge by 15:15 tomorrow. Flight number ENT465 departing 09:45 (for anyone who enjoys tracking Skiathos bound flights).
All being well this time time tomorrow we'll be eating some much wanted Greek Cuisine; but at which taverna I don't know - only time will tell. I'll try to give regular feedback from Skiathos in the next day or two; but I can't guarantee daily reports.
Ah, finally it has appeared. Currently over Brussels. I have 150 miles to drive, so he may be there by the time I next look. The flight was listed in Gatwick as to Thessaloniki and Skiathos, so maybe he's doing a Splash and Go.
Yes, he landed OK and as far as I could see, didn't call at Thessaloniki on the way. Remember he didn't know what his wifi connection would be like, so we must be patient (until tomorrow, when it will be legitimate to start slanging him for tardyness).
Day 2 23rd June; a good flight, we left 20 minutes late but made it up on route and landed 15 minutes ahead of schedule.
It's hot hot hot. We went out at 6pm and it was 34 degrees. Didn't do much our first evening; just walked around the corner to Little Balcony and had a snack. Geek salad to share, pork Gyros for Liz, burger stuffed with feta and peppers for me. Both dishes came with chips and all the trimmings. A mythos and a large white wine and the bill came to 28€..
It's good to be back !!! Weathers a tad cooler this morning; a nice breeze today which makes the heat more pleasant. We'll see what today brings.
