Saturday 01 July. More sun and heat and it's only 09:15am. It's meet-up day today - 1pm at the Bourtzi Cafe. I've been interacting with Tre and Dennis since February; if will be nice to finally put faces to names. So the camera is on charge, I'm showered and shaved. The shower was surprisingly warm at 7 in the morning, maybe I'll be getting-up early for the remainder of the holiday; like hell π³once is enough. It was changeover day yesterday and we now have a screaming child a few rooms away. I know children do and I'm in no way a grumpy π‘ man but to facilitate sleep yesterdays alcohol πΊ intake dramatically increased. Every cloud has a silver lining π Anyway enough of my ramblings I've things to do; places to go and people to see.

Met Tre and Dennis today. We only managed an hour on the Bourtzi before we had to retreat to the coolness of a venue under cover in the new harbour. It has been unbearably h**t these last few days; so much so even the Greeks are flagging - imagine how us pale skinned Limeys' are coping.
Anyway enough of my moaning about the heat; the meet up seemed to be going well, it's just a shame we couldn't hack the temperature π€ The Bourtzi's as good venue for SB meet up's let's hope they continue!!

Sunday 2nd July. Woke up at 08:00 with a feeling of dread; yes only 5 more days on this wonderful island and we'll be going home, where has the last 9 days gone?
I suddenly thought to myself 'we haven't done much'. But that's irrelevant we've been so relaxed nothing seems to have mattered to us. We've been 'Skiathosed' π
So in the next 5 days what are we going to do? Well my guess is much of the same. Today especially is going to be spent at a leisurely pace. A late breakfast at around 'lunch' time. Maybe a bus to a beach in the afternoon; it's about time we spend an hour or two on the sand but it's been so hot we've both been shying away.
Whatever we do is bound to be more enjoyable than sitting at home in the π¬π§
Whoever you are and whatever you do, I hope you enjoy your Sunday.

Monday 3rd July: Spent yesterday afternoon on the beach and had a really good mid-afternoon lunch at Cafe Del Mar. We had a Tuna baguette at some kind of fajita, 2 Mythos + 2 large glasses of white wine and bill came to only 27β¬. πππ
On our way back we stopped off for the obligatory gyro's and beer at Little Balcony (seems to have become a daily tradition lol. Yannis; the owner is a great guy who works so hard) then headed back to the apartment.
Had a few drinks on our balcony before bed; we were both done-in. I was asleep as soon as my head hit the pillow only to be woken up at 2am to the sound of our balcony furniture being blown around by a fierce wind. I thought we were in for a famous Skiathos storm but nothing materialised.
Today is still quite breezy and a lot cooler I think the oppressive heat that's been gripping The Northern Aegean has decided enough is enough and moved on to another part of the world.
Have a great Monday, I know we will!!

Tuesday 4th July: Monday flew by. We had another stroll down to Cafe Del Mar for lunch; really good I highly recommend you all try it.
An admin afternoon followed; we were both on our last pair of clean knickers and we didn't want any Taverna losing custom because of smelly customers. A couple of my holiday shirts we're also smelling a tad on the ripe side. Right Guard Extreme only hides the inevitable for a few days.
Washing done and drip drying on the balcony; we showered and decided to try Maria's Pizza. However after speaking to other guests at Taxiarchis we decided to try Thessaloniki; we must have chosen the wrong dishes because although it wasn't bad, it didn't turn us on as much as we expected it too!
The wind is wild today, I wouldn't fancy being on a plane coming into land today - I don't even know if the try in conditions such as these. Maybe they divert to the mainland.
Wild windswept Skiathos or damp wet Norfolk; I know which I'd choose ππ

Wednesday 5 July: Today is effectively our last full day. Our cases need to be outside on the road at 8am Friday so we'll need to start packing tomorrow afternoon. It's coming to the end of our holiday and it's not a nice thought.
With us only having half a day tomorrow, it will leave me with less time to sit here typing to all you people so I'll try to summarise our holiday and end my feed back thread now. I apologise for being 48 hours premature π
As you all know this was our second visit to the island (the first being 12 years ago). We'd been to several other Greek islands before becoming big fans of Icmeler in Turkey (shall I duck? π‘π‘).
We fell out with Turkey after a not-so-good experience whilst on holiday and probably won't ever return.
Skiathos and it's people are just as warm and welcoming as they/it was 12 years ago in fact the 'warmest' reception we got was 48 degrees in the blazing sun the day Dennis and Tre + respective partners arrived. So you could say the welcome was 'scorching' π
We've had a fantastic time; met some very friendly people-English and Greek. Eaten some wonderful food in various tavernas; some better dishes than others but not one meal was nasty !! The best being at Restaurant O Paraxenos on Evagelistrias Street; awesome food and reasonably priced.
We only had one negative experience and that was in a certain fish Taverna above the old port. It was mid-afternoon and we'd been wandering around in +42 heat. We were sweaty messes and all we wanted was to sit down and buy a bottle of water. Our request was refused because we didn't want food. I could of understood if it was full to bursting but there was only one other couple in there. Oh well they lost out because the place was on our list of places to try. π
Will we return?? We're already planning 2018's visit. Are we Boomerangers? Of course we are π¬π¬π¬π¬π¬
Sorry my reports have been brief and not so in-depth as others but when your having the time of your life, just a few words here and there are all you can manage.
One final note: We all know the Greek economy has taken a battering but from the minute we stepped of the plane we was greeted with happy smiling faces (well as soon as we got out of the airport) πIf you didn't know you certainly couldn't tell the hardship Greece in general has been through.
Thank you for making our holiday so special Skiathos/ people of Skiathos and of course the Skiathos Boomerang forum.
Thanks for taking the time to read my reports; I know they haven't been the best but I tried !!
THE END
