Self-evident, as per thread title.
How do you respond to people who ask why you keep going back to the same place, etc.?

Firstly seeing my husband be really happy and relaxed holidaying abroad as before he has always gone for my sake as his depression just gave him no joy for anywhere away from home, so coinciding with the right medication at last to our second visit back and him absolutely loving it is a big thing for me... the beauty of the place, the beautiful sights we have seen and yet to see as we drive all over the island, the amazing food... the warm friendly people who just make us feel so relaxed and happy, how wonderful the food is cooked and presented and how professional yet relaxed we are served everywhere, actually makes me feel humble, I really appreciate all the effort that is put in by all, so different to a lot of what we get back home. We love Skiathos..... can you tell?..

I think there are obviously lots of reasons, but one I'll point out is that the island appears to be just the right size.
You can be 'away' from the town and feel the peace of the countryside, but at the same time never be too far away.
I think it has a bit of everything; local, basic, traditional tavernas right through to fine dining.
I think there's a great atmosphere which isn't so quiet that it's dull, nor too lively that it's aggressive.
Quiet bar for a beer? Got it. Bright cocktail bar? Got that, too.
The weather, I think the great thing is that, at least in the summer, it's baking hot, but never really gets uncomfortable because of the sea breeze.
The accommodation, everything from extremely up market hotels, private villas with their own pools, self-catering, apartments, the lot. And yet none of that seems disjointed, it very much feels like part of a whole.
Above all, peaceful. Even wandering round town at night, you never feel there's too much hustle-bustle.

It starts with the approach to landing as the plane banks over the glittering azure sea, look out the port side windows and you glimpse kouks' golden crescent and next second the jumble of sugarcube buildings as the town starts and the shimmering harbour with its collection of yachts, a multitude of tavernas in the background. Then over the plane spotters by the fence and then we're down, reverse thrust, brace yourself against the headrest in front, doors open, the familiar heat and smells...aah we're back again!

Blimey I must be turning in to a romantic in my old age, either that or I banged my head at work! Better put a stop to that or else I'll be wasting hard earned beer money on flowers or something!

Skiathos turns us all into romantics in our old age, and who would have it any other way. Skiathos and its own unique magic, god willing we shall all enjoy it for a good few years

Is there actually a definition as to how many times you need to go before you are qualified as a boomeranger? I used to shudder at the thought of going back somewhere I'd been before when there were still so many places left unvisited. There are still plenty of places I'd like to go but I've been lured back 3 times now (4th coming up next month) in 6 years so it certainly has a draw about it.

KevB, I've been 3 times and I still haven't scratched the surface - partly due to having young kids.
I still need to:
- Visit a monastery - Visit the north coast - Go to the Windmill - Circumnavigate the island on a boat - See the sunset from the Bourtzi - Visit the highest point on the island - Go inland to any degree - Walk round the town enough to figure out where things are
Still so much to do.

There is still so much to do! We first visited in 2004 and have been every year since (apart from 2009 when youngest son got married in Mexico & it cost us a fortune!). We'll be on our second visit of this year in August ~ never done two in one year before, but we just felt we had to! I've just calculated that this will be visit #14 ~ and we still have so much more on the list

I don't know whether it is the laid back ambience of the island or the thought that I have two whole weeks to achieve everything on my mental list but I always find that I go home thinking I didn't get to do this or that ........ but no worries, there is always next time to achieve my many 'first's'! :-)
On my fourth visit this year I did accomplish a number of firsts, some on my list and some totally unexpected, and when I left the island I thought to myself that there is always next time. Whether you plan on a full on, action packed holiday, a fly and flop or somewhere in between, the island tends to take over and your list just keeps getting longer! :-):-)
