Di I hope you don't have the same experience with your car as I witnessed several years ago. An elderly couple, staying at Skiathos Diamond, turned off the road to head up to the studios, just at the same time as the bin lorry, coming down from Infinity Blue, turned into that last bit of the road, before the main one. As you will know, at that point the road is too narrow for two vehicles to pass. At first both partys just sat in their vehicles staring at each other for a couple of minutes. Then they both got out of their vehicles, the Greek guys shouting in Greek and the British couple shouting in English, both gesticulating for all they were worth. Unfortunately then my bus came along so I didn't see how they resolved the stand off!
Friday... late get up for me 8.30 but I had woken a few times as it was so warm in the night.. toast and juice after my earlier cuppa then we got organised to drive up to the monastery where I love to visit more than once each trip. Called at the beautiful Church just below it first, what a pleasure to be able to walk into an unlocked church, cant do that anymore in the villages around us sadly due to persistent thieving 😟 Whilst we were up on the top road overlooking the airport I decided to trial the facebook live video function onto the Boomerangers FB page.. I couldnt see a thing with the sun so after writing a title to the video *Looking over the airport* I duly pointed the camera on live video mode panning round. I knew I messed up at the end as I had to go into the shadow of inside the car to press stop video. I noticed Janice had posted hello first, then someone said.. Has she got the camera the wrong way round*?? OMG.. what an idiot I was filming myself! 😂😂 Methinks I need some practice.. After a good hour at the Monastery where I bought a lovely book on Skiathos which I fancied last year but didnt get we headed into town where we bumped into the lovely Deryle and Kath and their hubbies, my friends from the FB page who we also bumped into last year by chance.. had nice chat with them before we headed off to the Bourtzi for lunch. We couldnt get a table in the shade so lunch was a rushed affair of a Club sandwich to share.. hot walk back up to the car park back to Troulos where we booked Ratatouille for tonights meal. A couple of hours around our pool where after a while I really fancied a cup of tea so instead of popping back to the room and as Mick wanted an ice cream we decided to go sit in comfy chairs near the bar. I said to Ilias at the bar could I have a cup of tea please? He stared at me and said, are you alright is everything ok, so concerned?? Bless him I said yes fine I just really feel like a cup of tea, I bet he thought I was unwell I hope no one has told him Im usually an alcohol drinker in the daytime lol 😂 We had a wonderful meal at Ratatouille, as usual but even more so as all new chefs and kitchen workers this year due to the long working chef and his wife becoming parents this year and staying on the mainland. Morfia told us she has had a very stressful winter as she lost her dad last Sept, who we asked about as we see him every year over-seeing all at Morfia/Ratatouille.. we had mushrooms with veg and tzatziki with pitta bread as starters then pork slouvaki with salad and oven potatoes for me, Mick had the biggest pork chop in the world with salad and chips, portion of bread, half litre wine 2 sprites complimentary dessert each €40.50... fabulous... Later up to Christakis bar for a drink, lovely chilled out place we have always felt... Chris the owner always walks round and greets everyone. Last drink at Boudouriani, names down for well recommended Greek night on Sunday.. Good day, goodnight folks 👍🏼🙂
Saturday...is it Saturday?? Late up again same toast tea and juice... what to do today... Decided on a morning on Agia Eleni beach, glad we got there pretty early 10.15 as there was no room at all to park when we left 3 hours or so later. Lovely warm swim just yards away from our towels, we dont bother with sunbeds as we dont stay that long on one beach so though Ive been laughed at for buying a cheap shower curtain to place on the sand so no laying on sand at all, plus keeps towels clean... its one of the best holiday items for us. Lunch was in Agustera bar in Kouk lovely hour in the shade before going back for a swim in our pool. I do this diary in stages in my notes then paste into the forum when Ive finished. Currently sat on bed in room feeling very sore from sunburnt back and chest... going from factor 30 to 20 was a BAD move! It was a bit cloudy too on the beach earlier... and Ive not had an hour in the sun this aft, not happy at mo 👎🏼. So evening meal decision was Villa Rosa just around the corner, we had the usual drinks plus starters of 4 mini cheese pies/feta cheese grilled with honey and cinammon, mamas beef dish for Mick, Moussaka in pot for me, not best Ive had not as nice as Ratatouille's version which ironically was half empty when we passed to go to V Rosa but very busy when we came by after eating. Bumped into the lovely Deryle, Kath and hubbies as we cornered Troulos junction, Deryle informed me she had an amazing Sea bass meal at Jasteri..We popped into the bar area for drinks which we often do before last drinks at Boudourani bar.. ps our meal cost €40.40... Was cooler night so it was nice to get in bed and have a sheet over me. Stormy weather is forecast for late Sunday night into Monday that will be a novelty so watch this space!! By the way though Ive used free wifi whenever possible I have been using my mobile data getting excellent 4G everywhere so as Ive topped up with 10GB to use over the month Im mainly using that now as my measly 1GB was used up by this morn (Sun)..
Quick update while we have power and 4G.. we decided to go into town yesterday morning as it was a bit cooler and breezy and I didnt want to get any sun on my back etc so bit of relief it wasnt scorchio for me. We at last found the Plakes area, what a delightful walk from parking below the medical centre! By the way is this the one you go to with health problems/the one Dennis would have been taken to? Really lovely walk up there passing I think 2 churches preparing perhaps for Sunday services, will def re-visit this week. What a joy to find the steps and take photo's on the edge of the rocks. After this we discovered how close we were to the tavernas above the old port so went down past these till we got to Mythos bar and had cold drinks and shared a nice club sandwich. Strolled up pap street and popped in a few shops keeping an eye on the clouds coming and going but it stayed pleasant, drove back to Troulos where we sat in the bar area chatting with other guests, really nice bunch of folk here and we enjoy chatting. Snooze back in our room after I had chosen a couple of books from the communal room where tons of books have kindly been left. The greek night was in doubt it would happen but tho tad windy the rain held off, it was a superb night, lovely food lovely company that we laughed and laughed with, two greek girls dancing and my hubby joined in twice bless him, its so lovely for me to see him happy and relaxed. The wind really got up but as predicted it was midnight when the rain came and middle of the night terrific thunder and lightening oh my word. I would have videoed it but darent open any door! Not much sleep but hey ho all is good so far! See what today brings, probably finish my book, hopefully get lunch in the bar.. over and out for now folks 👍🏼😀
