It was that sort of temp last couple of days I was in Troulos in 2015 and that was early September. In my feedback report I posted a pic of the temp/time scoreboard in the football pitch next to the apartments. I'm guessing it wasn't reading a true 'shade' temp as it was fluctuating between 49 and 50C on the last day! Last time I recall being that hot was in 2008 when I went to Rhodes with a couple of mates, it was genuinely about 42 in the shade last few days and there were forest fires immediately to the north of the resort, you could smell it on the wind last day we were there.

Back to the baltic visitors, a few years back we went to Thassos several times, made some good friends there. then one year everyone was moaning floods of bulgarians driving to the ferry bringing their car over full of food eating in the room. Used free sunbeds bought one bottle of water. One family proudly told someone they had 100 euros spending money for the week, not a day ! The next year we went and noticed lots of shops tavernas closed down as several english tour operators had pulled out leaving non spending tourists. What they dont realise is if you dont spend there will be no resorts left. Then i persuaded husband to try skiathos as i had been several years before and we never looked back !

Pertaining to today, what I did, and the thread title, Isaac Hayes' masterpiece Hot Buttered Soul came on my walkperson, which of course contains his own 'taken down to soulsville' interpretation of By the Time I Get to Phoenix.
Made me smile.

Why are the Serbs and Bulgars coming at all?
The Adriatic and Black Sea are similar, closer and cheaper.

It was that sort of temp last couple of days I was in Troulos in 2015 and that was early September. We experienced that. Back in the good old days as a serviceman in Bahrain, our swimming pool was heated only by the sun and they posted the water temperature on a board at the side every day. I used to stop swimming in winter when the water temperature dropped below 95F.

YM, glad you enjoyed Final Step, more so that you have found & enjoyed house wine by the carafe. Great value. Dennis, re temperature, remember our Bourtzi meeting, 1July, Phil struggled with the heat? It reached 46 that weekend!!! Happliy it cooled to mid 30's by Tues/Wed Enjoy YM. We loved Souvlaki, under the pines. If you venture into town, a fabulous traditional greek eats place is Varthalamis. Amazing value. 7 of of us ate 2 courses & drank House wine for less than €10 each!! Best I can direct is up from Benbows & down from Port House. www.tripadvisor.co.uk/Restaurant_Review-g775993-d2232921-Reviews-Varthalamis-Skiathos_Town_Skiathos_Sporades.html

Yes Tre, that was so warm that Phil was suffering. It was the day I started sleeping semi-commando and continued to do so for the whole fortnight. I was on double beer rations for two weeks and put on six pounds!

It certainly finished me-off I spent the rest of the day hiding in a bar; and guess what? I was drinking beer and water alternatively For me to resort to water in a bar is unheard of but it was just too hot.

Don't sit down for a listen until you have around half an hour to spare.

Twenty minutes actually. But it's not for me, I lasted only 23 seconds and that was more than I could face. Sorry. I almost guessed before I clicked - the bloke hasn't got any hair!

Nectar and Ambrosia last night.
'Fine' rather than brilliant. Lovely setting. Staff organisation Fawlty Towers-esque. Food okay. House wine...okay-ish.
Nothing to complain about, but not particularly memorable.
EDIT: Sorry, should add that there was a very good choice on the menu and the prices were far more reasonable than I'd expected. But most of the lamb dishes had an * next to them, indicating the meat had been frozen.

Thanks for the heads up about Nectar and Ambrosia - looks like we've made the right decision in the past to avoid the climb! As for frozen lamb - it is now well past the ripe lamb period (a few weeks after they were born), so frozen will be the only option I suppose.
