13-8-17 A year to the day since dad died. Mum actually coping well, we talked about him at breakfast and at other times during the day but this was always going to a fairly quiet one especially as we got a lot in yesterday. I'd mentioned Kouk and the Mandraki walk to her when telling her of my previous holidays but never pressed her into considering it an option this time. However shes jumped at it so we were up early and down in Kouk by 9:30. Did the cut through by bus stop 23 over to the bridge and a look at Kouk beach (already filling up as Sunday is often staff days off) then back to the road to Giros under Pines and the trek north to Mandraki. She likes Mandraki beach as much as I do (phew) but we didnt hire sunbeds just had coffees and a stroll down the beach. Back to Kouk for well deserved Mythos and a greek salad at the Agustera. Dino and Effi remembered me and I introduced mum to them. Lovely hard working couple and the bar is a credit to them. Back to Meg Ammos by bus and round pool by 2pm for a relaxing afternoon. Ricci and Poveri (balcony table) booked for tonight.Laptop not rechrging and keeps switching itself off mid flow not sure how many detailed reports I can get out from now sorry folks. The return from Mandraki through the pine forest
Lunch at Agustera, mum was supposed to be snapping Dino's splendid greek salad but some fat middle aged bloke seems to have crept in shot...

Great report, Kev ~ and what a lot you packed it to make it a special first anniversary. You've made your dad a part of your Skiathos memories with your mum ~ hope she becomes a boomeranger too.
Don't know how Efi & Dino do it, but they remember everyone! Lovely people. Hope Ricchi e Poveri was as good as usual ~ think it was our favourite in June. Hope you can sort the laptop!!

Thanks for the kind words folks. No joy still with laptop think issue is having to put usb charging plug into my universal travel adaptor even though this works fine for charging my phone. Going to see if i can find a 2 prong usb plug that will go straight into mains socket. If anyone knows an electrical shop in town or seen one in one of big supermarkets let me know. Doing this on phone making my thumb hurt. Briefly last night was great. Fab food at Ricchi e Poveri (didnt know this was an italian 60s pop group)and balcony view to Bourtzi was best table in the restaurant mum was thrilled. Cant recall exact dishes but we had patatas, mushrooms in garlic, a beef fillet dish with some yummy cating, their famous pork belly medallions and shrimp in yet more garlic butter. Got cheapest bottle of red to go with it which was fine. Total about 45 euro which considering location was good value gave them 55 they treated us so well. Went in the big church in the square on way back mum lit a candle for dad and had a little but was OK. I made a donation in the box then mum wanted a return visit to old port house so we finished off there and were both quite tipsy on return walk. We just had room for a small ice cream tub each from the Ariston bakery on Pap st. Mum said shed never tasted ice cream like it and shes been to Venice so another thumbs up. Only downside is she tripped and fell coming up the driveway to apts but seemed Ok not seen her this morning yet both having a lie in, we 'supped some stuff' last night to use the yorkshire vernacular! Our meal at Ricchi & Poveri (the garlic prawns were still on their way)
View from our table - nice, isn't it?

Glad Richi & Poveri lived up to your expectations. Hope Mum is ok after her fall. There are two "phone" shops top of Main Street, on the right as you walk down, OTE (think that's what it's called) & Vodafone. Might they have a USB lead with the right plug? OTE Is the one where everyone on the island pays their bills in person!! There is also Skiathos Photography further down the street who raked out boxes of various leads when we were looking for a card reader. Hope this helps.

Thanks for the info will try the phone shop next time im in town. After the activity of yesterday we are having a quiet day on Meg Ammos beach. Managed to snag a couple of beds only a few yards from steps up to Swells. Currently sharing a tuna salad with a bit of feta on the side washed down with large draught Alfa. Its a tough job but someones gotta do it... Decisions decisions - mum at Swells

Picked up a charger in vodaphone shop (TEN euros must have seen me coming) but it has 2 usb slots so in theory can charge 2 things at once). Not had time to try it as we jumped on a bus at stop 0 and have come out to Troulos in honour if all you folks that stay in this area. Table for two at Ratatouille chucken souvlaki for me, appears to be approx half a chicken split over 3 skewers. Mums gone native now and had stiffado which has slightly beaten her on quantity but she has enjoyed it Going to see if i can find pool bar of place i stayed in 2 yrs ago have a quick drink then bus back to meg ammos. Big trip day tomorrow to skopelos by ferry.

Good news is that the double charger successfully charged both laptop and phone, though the charger got worryingly hot during the process. Not sure i would leave it overnight might wake to find ten euros worth of molten plastic hanging from the wall. Not quite my day as when i now had a fully charged laptop to go the wi fi signal at the apartment had disappeared. Maybe Kosta has the server off for some reason. The signal up to today had been great even from my room no need to go to public places. So here i am back on the phone but more of todays adventure later. To wrap up last night the meal at ratatoullie was fine and good value coming in at under 40 for us both. The house red is the roughest weve had anywhere though. Costas at the Koukias apts remembered me from 2 yrs ago had a couple at his pool bar then bus back to our place back home for 11pm. All this lazing on beaches takes it out of you.

Im back on wi fi but no time to fire up the laptop so phone to rescue again. My thumb is developing biceps. Caught the ferry to skopelos even though mum shopped en route and bought a dress which we left at the shop to collect later. Over to Skop on earlier 11:30 ferry disembarked at Loutraki and sure enough there is the fabled free bus. Actually a v comfy air con coach and there were under 10 of us on it including driver. Very scenic route around coast but not for those with vertigo. 50 min later we are at skop town in time for lunch then a bit of a mooch around back streets finished off with eye watering 10 euro for 2 small bottles of mythos at a place over the road from ferry. Ferry 40 min late so only back in skiathos after 6:30. Girl in dress shop this morning replaced by another who knew nothing of our earlier purchase. Two phone calls later she find bag with dress in 2 feet behind her under a bench. Very apologetic mum fine with it once dress in posession. Back to apts and mum still game for heading back in for a gyros. Im knackered. Im suggesting we walk to bus stop 5 and bus it to the harbour then take it from there. I can see us heading back to old port house its become her second home. He does a mean ouzo and lemonade there so i wont complain. Mums only complaint is she didnt come here years ago. This is the harbour at Loutraki and that coach on the keyside is the hopper that runs from here through Glossa and evnually all way to Skopelos town
Far end of Skopelos town harbour just hanging around until the 4:30pm ferry turned up
