Second attempt! Wrote a great load early this morning (well, as soon as we woke up at 11am!!) but didn't post straight away and lost it To summarise - a good quiet. journey (despite leaving home @ 2.30 am and then trying to board the wrong plane, so nearly went to Ibiza!). Taxi to the top of Papadiamantis β¬12 and a short walk to the Atlas hotel, conveniently situated opposite Ergon & Portobello. A lovely welcome from the very helpful Alkis and into our room - small but perfectly formed. Dennis - the bathroom is a black-tiled wet room ..... BUT there is a hook high on the wall for the shower, so I don't need the gadget after all! I was pleased that Dave had mentioned bringing extra coat hangers, as I hate having to pile stuff on shelves and not being able to get them out easily. The air con is very welcome & pretty quiet - all in all, happy with choice of accommodation. Paul's ear coped well, Bob - hopefully it's all sorted now. We were shattered when we got here - we just had a couple of drinks at Mythos and then dinner at Kabourelias. We ordered a Greek salad between us to start, then sea bream, salad & baked potatoes for me, lamb chops, chips and salad for Paul, washed down with half a carafe of red wine. The total was β¬41.50, not counting the tip, so very reasonable. After that, we had a swift nightcap in the Cafe Bar (Dark Fix at room temp for Paul!) and in bed by 9pm. A good first day

Glad you arrived safely - is that the room that's small but perfectly formed or Alkis? ;-)

Hmm. I already knew you have a black tiled lavvy, from the hotel's website photo gallery. Disappointing that you have a hook - the picture definitely shows the shower pipe tightly wound round the tap. But I'm feeling just a bit smug that in a wet room, you never know for sure what's the wet patch on the floor!

Hahah - wet patches are lethal, Dennis! Both the room & Alkis, Kev. Meant to say, was writing the post from Main Street bar earlier - but it's not our favourite. We're going to try Phaedrocks later - first timers.

Kate, sounds like you're chilled already. Enjoy! So today, I'm really less than happy π Had sort of forgotten that son's in law's are off to Skiathos tomorrow!! More so, son & wife fly out next Friday to join them for a week π How unfair is that? π Tried to join them but no local (ish) flights! As said before, we've been twice this year.......

Oh no, Tre - poor you - hate it when friends are here and we're at home. I should've said its really horrid here right now, but I cannot tell a lie! We're in Koukounaries today, currently sitting by the Myrtia pool with a chilled beer. It's very pleasant to be back here - though lots of wasps about. Much more than in town, which is to be expected! We're off to see Dino & Efi at the Agustera later and may stay there to watch the football tonight, so it might be a late one! Yesterday was lovely - a bit of an explore in the afternoon (we slept in til 11 am!!!), and then drinks at Rock n Roll & Ginfish, followed by dinner in Asprolithos (β¬33 for lamb shank with mash, chef's lamb & half litre of red - beautiful). We ended up in Phedrocks, as it's only round the corner from the hotel. It was fun - the Swedes were most genial, even though they were losing the match! A great night's sleep - a very comfy bed - ready for anything!

Well, Kate, I've ticked Like, but I'm rather exaggerating with that. Anybody who doesn't get up until 11am has little about them to like. Although, having said that, I do appreciate the people who don't come out early to get in our way!
I shall continue to do green-eyed monster alongside 3 (that's text for Tre with an H more than some) until a week today when I shall start taunting all ye who are soon to leave us!

The house red at Asprolithos is very good, isn't it.
When we were in Augustera Dino had to ask us to have a word with out 8 year old lad - he was running around like a loon (nothing new there), most of all I think Dino was afraid he'd hurt himself. Very pleasant place to eat and drink.

Spare a thought for East Mids passengers, they are due to arrive 95 mins late this evening. Glad I didn't pick this week to go, it would usually have been 'my flight' on a normal Skiathos year. Glad you are getting back to Kouk for a visit even if staying in Town, doesn't seem two minutes ago that me and mum were having one of Dino's Greek salads. Asprolithos is another to mentally tuck away for future, never eaten there.

I believe flight out of Manchester due to leave at 7:20 actually departed at 13:20, yet more technical difficulties. Poor folk on board should be enjoying sunshine and a cold beer, but instead are still in the air.
Sounds like Skiathos is working its magic Kate π

I really can't follow this wine business. As I said before, I only know two types of wine - sweet and sour, but sour becomes potable after about four glasses.
I keep seeing people having litres and half litres. Back in my Greek wine days it used to be kilos and half kilos. But it mostly was sour any way up!

Dennis, appreciation of fine wine is an art, think of it as difference between Yorkshire tea bag and that of my mums variety.
Certainly nobody should be able to tell you what's good and what's not, all down to personal taste, drink the bottle not the label.
Greek wine is very underrated,I personay am a real ale buff, but a good rapsani goes don well..
Kate could Dennis be a tad envious, you have a comfortable bed, plus a shower attachment??

Dave, I'm a country bumpkin with tea too! Either it tastes nice or it doesn't. I don't drink a lot of it, indeed I've only recently started because I always drank coffee. But I've rather gone off coffee when driving around and I find tea more refreshing.
I really can't stand these fancy coffees, all those weird names to put the price up and I do so smile when I see the early commuters walking along clutching their non-recyclable brown cups with lids and holes for baby drinking. I suppose those who do so from home actually have a machine at home, can you believe it?
Must remember to pack the laptop cable.

Can't believe it's Sunday already - time is rushing by when I want it to go slowly! We had a lovely day at Megali Amos yesterday - it took us fifteen minutes to walk from the centre of town to the Swell beach bar, a shorter walk than I was expecting. I'm really cross that I forgot my phone, camera and iPad, so couldn't take any photos - silly me! Anyway, we stayed all day as it was so nice there and perfect weather - hot and sunny with a cooling breeze. Lunch was a Greek salad and cheese toastie, with two small beers -β¬14.50. It was our first time on Megali Amos - won't be the last! We stopped at Cafe del Mar for another beer on the way back - another lovely spot to while away some time, overlooking the sea. (Really needed my camera yesterday!)
We decided to return to Dionysus to eat last night - we used to eat there years ago, but haven't been for five or six years. It hadn't changed at all and was still very good quality and value, with great service. We had tomato soup and tzatziki with warm bread to start, Greek salads, chicken fillet in metaxa sauce and lamb chops/calamari with chips, small carafe of smooth red wine, a coffee and two small panacotta puds. The grand total ....... β¬36.50!!!
After dinner we had a little stroll to walk off all that food and then called in at The Blind Dog for a couple of hours - another first, as it doesn't get going until well after 10pm and we're usually thinking about leaving town then if staying in Koukounaries ...... so another advantage to staying in town. Anyway - we were so impressed by Zoe and Danny's singing and music choice - loved it and were out til after midnight (don't tell the kids!!!). Paul was very slightly put out to find that he'd paid β¬4 each for his couple of small beers when the large ones were β¬5!!! (I drank rose wine last night - β¬6 for a small bottle, Greek & very acceptable.)
It's very warm overnight - we're needing to use the air con quite a lot. Fortunately, the fan's fairly quiet so we can sleep with it on. (Didn't wake til 9 am today - sorry Dennis! Must be the comfy beds βΊοΈ) Just going out for breakfast - probably Portobello again as its so close and the courtyard is pretty. There's also a small white kitten there and we enjoy watching its antics, trying to climb trees and unsuccessfully hunting flies!
