hi guys
thanks for allowing me on this forum I have been to skiathos 5 times now and always stayed at the Astoria at troulos
can I just say how helpful this forum and the people are as we are due to fly out in September.
we are quite nervous about going but cannot afford to lose money if we cancel rather than tui, at the same time I myself cannot wait to get there and see old friends that live there, with what I have seen on a couple of forums people seem to be enjoying themselves whilst this awful virus is in the back of their minds.
I just hope that everybody is using a bit of common and sticking to rules as it would be disastrous for the wonderful people of skiathos if it set root amongst them.
once again thanks for letting me on the forum and look forward to more informative posts

Aye up new Dave, and welcome.
Having been 5 times I'm sure you can bring to these forums as much as you get. We all learn from each other.

Dave, if you are concerned about September, you COULD consider the possibility of switching to next year.
First though, it looks to me as though the second wave of Covid is seeming more likely every day, with the possibility that your holiday gets cancelled by the tour operator. In that case you could have the option of a refund or a free change of booking (e.g. to next year). So personally I would hold out for that.
If you don’t get that and still daren’t go, you could change it to next year and have to pay a change fee. We’ve done that and it cost £200 - yes, extra cost, but peace of mind. We are too old and vulnerable to take chances.

Welcome Dave... hope you enjoy this forum as much as the rest of us do, it's very different from say Facebook but that's a good thing too as it's very informative and an enjoyable site to peruse and share things.... look forward to hopefully hear how your trip goes...

I intend to just go with the flow if the holiday is cancelled then so be it always next year. got to admit though I feel I need this one as I have been furloughed since march and just this week have now been told I'm being made redundant so the last thing I need at the moment is this holiday going down the pan also.

Dave that’s awful, I’ve never forgotten how I felt when I was made redundant 50 years ago. I imagine it is much worse nowadays.
I hope you have a great holiday in Skiathos and come back to a perfect job vacancy.

Similar position.
I left school in 1981, and I've not had a day out of work.
Last summer I was made redundant. I was fortunate enough to start again in September, but not before I'd booked a week solo in Skiathos.

Ah, so I was made redundant before you lot got out of nappies. It was aaaard in them days. We had to chew the tongues on people’s shoes (not ours, we didn’t have shoes) and mum hung a kipper on a nail in the back door for us to wipe our slice of bread on as we set off to ‘t mill.

I'm just wondering if I can get a job out there something along the lines of testing the water temp or making sure peoples beers are cold enough. best ask when I get there they can only say no .. and I certainly don't mind putting suntan lotion on the ladies and I'm cheap only 3 euros.

Fortunately, I’m not a lady - I’d hate to think of being lotioned by a cheapskate.

You might get more money if you go to banana beach (the naturist one) and offer to oil up the men 🤣
