Squeaky bum time, waiting for QR code. Supposed to arrive just after 10, going to be a long couple of hours waiting. We are pretty sure it will arrive, but always that nagging doubt 🤞

We like quiet, normally go early may but obviously scuppered this year, we have friends who flew out on Wednesday, and another who’s been out for a couple of weeks, funnily they visited for all visited last year for my birthday for the first time and they are smitten.

We arrived Wednesday. Weather fab today on Mandraki Elias. Town last night seemed busy, tonight less so. But, it feels safe, and no problem socially distancing ourselves! After the 2020 we (everyone) has had so far, it’s bliss!

Flight yesterday pretty uneventful, but cannot praise jet2 enough, whilst other airlines are moaning, seeking tv slots etc jet2 quietly getting on with the job, plentiful staff at the airport giving clear and understanding,I would say instructions but guidance probably fits the bill better, on board wonderful service, captain spoke on a few occasions, all instructions over the audio clear and precise. All in all ,flight an enjoyable experience. We we’re fortunate that one of our friends who arrived previously had hired a car picked us up from the airport, we didn’t get tested so again a painless experience. Bags dropped, met with other friends in main street bar, a couple of drinks then off to Mouria taverna for food. I chose a local dish ‘ pakri’ pork in a spicy red wine sauce, it was delicious, as where allour parties meals. Called into phedrocks for a nightcap and to catch up with our good friend Phed and his side kick Harri. They say season has been ok, at least covered outgoings . After an excellent nights sleep at the Atlas breakfast in Syranios then boat taxi to Kanapitsa, beach quiet but by no means empty, lunch in the taverna then our friend picked us up and dropped us back in town, quick drink in portobello before returning to the hotel to prepare for this evening. Front line table booked in Richie e povouri for tapas tonight, having eaten there before, really looking forward to visiting again. Weather today been ok, bit of cloud this morning, very windy at the beach, evidently a bit cooler than last week, but still very pleasant. All in all a good first day.

I failed to mention on my previous post, our flight out was pretty much full, however a lot of the passengers where some of those that lost holidays to other islands now on the quarantine list,Crete etc. This is obviously wonderful news for the Skiathos economy. I assume the same will apply to other incoming flights. An absolutely fabulous meal last night at Richie e pouvori, with wine it worked out just shy of €30 a head, but quality food and wine. We then had a couple of drinks in the venue situated in the old port before having a night cap in portobello. This day we for the 1st time, I’m ashamed to say, despite over 30 visits spread over 20 years, drove to Kastro, the drive itself is akin to a theme park ride, well worth the visit, stunning views, and a good deal of history in the old town There is a quaint rustic taverna located by the Careparking area above the beach, we stopped for refreshments when leaving Kastro, it’s owned by a charming lady who was more than welcoming, her young daughter, approx 10/11 years old was an absolute delight, she waited on our table and also provided us with an ad hoc gymnastics display. on the way down we stopped for lunch at ( hope I’m correct) Platanous?, the views from this place over the town never cease to amaze me, excellent food and service We then drove to vromolomonis beach, this used to be a favourite of ours in the late 90s early 20s, but unfortunately it changed into a party bar which we didn’t like, I’m akin with Dennis in his dislike for boom boom music. However today we found a smart modern taverna, no music, good service and the beach as good as we remember. It was quite busy, but being a Sunday a lot of our Greek friends come out to play. Weather today was hot, a light cloud covering first thing but this cleared into the afternoon. Tonight we haven’t selected a venue to eat, so wherever we end up . Hope my drivel not too boring, as I previously stated, I don’t profess to be an author.

Dave you are giving us an insight into your holiday, what's boring about that? I am enjoying your 'drivel' and would love for more people to post. The only time I am disappointed is when I log in and there is nothing to read! Keep posting please 😃

Good afternoon folks, last night we fancied fish, recommenced kabourolias in the old port, fabulous, fish platter for 2, would have fed a family of 4. Meal with beer /wine complimentary desert, €25 a head, again great service with a comical waiter. Moved on to Mythos as the girls fancied cocktails, good old G&T for myself, beautiful evening, being a Sunday plenty of footfall from the locals. This morning a bit overcast so we decided to bumble around town and catch the midday boat taxi to Kanapitsa, called to say hello to our friends at the fresh bar , stayed for breakfast, freshly squeezed orange juice, fresh fruit and Greek yoghurt, divine. Headed to the boat taxi and fortunately we caught the remembrance ceremony for those lost in the submarine, there where a lot of dignitaries and military in full dress uniform some in pristine white naval attire, reminiscent of an officer and a gentleman , a great deal of respect given, it is a privilege and a joy to witness these events, also a reminder, Skiathos is a holiday destination to us, but it very much a local community. Spent the afternoon on Kanapitsa, as forecast the clouds dispersed and the sun shone, temperatures in the high 20s. Very much looking forward to tonight’s meal, booked into Johnny’s taverna in Kanapitsa, very much a family run establishment, Johnny himself is also the islands postman. Hoping that the quality of the food matches previous visits.

I’ve just realised, and fully expect a scolding from Dennis, I should have posted my thread in the holiday feedback section, many apologies sir.

No scolding from me Dave - I hadn't noticed. But being a long term user of the forum, I have my notifications set to notify of all new posts, so I just clicked in on drivel and was VERY happy to read it all. Now that you've brought it to my attention, I'll admit to being so incompetent I have no idea how to put it right by moving it into the Feedback forum. Maybe our guru Woody will pick upm on it and do us the favour. In the meantime, like everybody else, I'm loving it.
Wish I'd seen today's episode sooner - we always go to the Katsonis submarine ceremony, so this year I would have been watching the webcam to see the submarine parked in the bay off the Bourtzi. It's long gone now, pity.

Hey, I managed to move it. Sometimes I'm cleverer than somebody else called Dennis!
