But your not a boring old f*#t are you Dennis some people are old in their ways at 50. You are not poor either two holidays a year! I don’t think I’ll ever be ready for sensible shoes , rucksacks and letting my white hair show. I’ve never seen the rucksack brigade in Skiathos not walking poles too?

I have seen walking poles and sensible walking boots - and I’ve envied them. Back in the day (well, about 25 years ago) I derived great pleasure walking hills in Samos and my home area.
AND I’VE GOT SLIPPERS AND A SOCKS PUTTER-ONNER. 🤣😇

WEVE ALWAYS FOUND AFTER THE FIRST WEEK IN SEPT EVERYONE QUITE OLD . WE WENT TO KEFALONIA ONCE SECOND WEEK IN SEPT AND EVERYTHING SHUTTING DOWN FELTLIKE WE HAD MISSED THE BOAT, NO HOLIDAY ATMOSRERE AT ALL For me, on Skiathos all I want is clean, friendly place to lay my head. Anything else is a Brucie bonus. We looked at Sunset in Koukounaries quite a few times, as it appeared to fit the bill. But then it never had a free child place offer whilst the Palace did, making them pretty much the same price overall. With the Palace having loads of nice extras (breakfast for 4 every day, free beach towels, free bus to the beach and back, free bus into town). It was a no brainier. This August the Sunset had a free child place, making it appropriately cheaper than the Palace, so we went there and it was what we wanted, expected and needed. This October, despite having no kids with us, the Palace had a great deal, again as cheap as Sunset, so we booked there. But it was cancelled, and we were moved to the (usually even more expensive) Princess at no extra cost. So we’re in the Princess at Sunset prices. Free breakfast. Free beach towels. Free sunbeds. Would I pay Princess prices to come here instead of Sunset? No. Am I enjoying the delightful extras and loveliness while I’m here? Yes.

Probably a group/s of senior walkers/hikers who prefer the cooler weather to enjoy their long walks/hikes around the island. I remember back on on my last holiday in Skiathos, mid to late September, there was a large group of German walkers who holidayed on the island at that time every year. They took over the Pegasus restaurant for an early evening meal following their trek in Platanias. The restaurant was out of action all afternoon whilst they organised it for the group. I don’t think that’s the story with this lot. They’re separate, not a group. And we’ve seen plenty of them round town at various times. It would be the best time to come for a walking holiday on the island, though.

The boat trip was good fun. Last one of the season and full, so a real party atmosphere, lots of free Ouzo and Metaxa.
Lovely seeing a few of the Mama Mia locations, and both neighbouring islands were pleasant.
Back on Skiathos we went to the Skye Bar for relatively cheap, but absolutely delicious cocktails.
Then downstairs to Koziakas. Great grill, I had belly pork, Julie had lamb. Pretty much perfect. Julie went on a quick visit to the shops, and I popped in Phedrock for a quick one.
Julie has stayed in bed for an extra while, as she’s got a sore throat, and I’m posting this from breakfast.
The plan for today is Koukounaries…and a jet ski.

Late change of plan. Julie’s not up to Koukounaries. She feels, quite correctly, that she’ll feel as well/poorly on a sun lounger at the hotel as in bed, so we’re staying by the pool.

Maybe you should strike up a conversation the next time you meet some of them and get the lowdown. I am intrigued.

A SOCKS PUTTER-ONNER. it puts your socks on when your footman/valet is away (I haven’t got a valet, so mine’s always away and I can’t reach my right foot).

No Cariad we wash and dry each other’s feet when we come out of the beach (and we tell passing tourists that we used to use our hair until towels were invented). But socks don’t get included.
