One thing I’ve found more over the last few years. Much as I love the food, I’m regularly not that hungry.
Partly because of the heat, I’m rarely ravenous if I’m hot. But I also have a big breakfast and a lunch. At home I have a bowl of cereal for breakfast. Here I have cereal, then some bacon, eggs and toast. At home I might grab a sandwich for lunch. Here I might share a pizza or something.
Last night I was so full that I couldn’t finish my Greek Salad. And that’s just a salad!
So I’ve limited myself to cereal this morning, and I’ll give lunch a miss unless I’m fading.
You need a big appetite at Big Bad Wolf.
Julie’s enjoying the playlist. I need to listen to a bit more music.

The worlds gone mad. Have you noticed price of litre house wine this year I think a steady €6 for a half litre. Mythos at Mythos bar €4, I think it was €3.50 last year. The prices are in that zone, if you look at any one individual item you’re ordering it doesn’t appear a lot more expensive. But cumulatively, the bill at the end of the meal is noticeably more than normal. We usually budget for €100 a day. We often nudge past that, but it’s been a good ballpark figure. This year it’s not remotely achievable.

I need to listen to a bit more music. So far so good. All I’ve had all day is a bowl of cereal, a coffee, a small fruit juice, and one large Mythos. Feeling hungry.

All good stuff from YM again. Funnily enough mum and I also had the courgette fritter starters at Mesogia when we ate there last year (think it was our first time there actually). Ottima is definitely on the radar to try this year, as is Secret Garden.

I hope I haven’t fallen behind. I get confused as to what day it is.
Last night I took dad to Agustera for the first time - warm welcomes all round. Also met my former colleague Cath there, and her husband Andrew. We’d worked together for c.20 years, but hadn’t seen each other since pre-lockdown, so it was a nice catch up.
On to Big Bad Wolf. More big portions of wonderful food. We shared a large bowl of salad to start, with sweet walnuts and raisins. Absolutely smashing. Dad and I had kleftiko, him for the first time. Julie had a huge portion of moussaka, about 6” square, Freya a Greek Salad. All top stuff.
Back to the hotel, it is now officially full, and looks it. The service we’re getting is first class. A bit pricey. A large Mythos at Mythos is €4, at Agustera €4.50, at the beach bar Koukounaries €5.50. At the hotel €7. Now that’s not extortionate, but it is clearly a bit more pricey. Having said that a large glass of (very nice) house white is €5 or €5.50, which is great.
On Koukounaries beach, still only €10 for a pair of sun loungers and parasol. Just been on the crazy sofa with the bins, €40. They let Julie travel on the towing boat so she could film us - that’ll follow.
Considering how busy both the Palace and town are, it’s only medium-busy here. But it’s lovely and quiet and warm and just what you want: just what I need.
Town tonight, and back to Mesogia.
EDIT - no one wants to come on a jet ski with me.

So last night was return to Mesogia. Shared starters of the usual Kolokithokeftedes and my dad’s choice of sardines. Lovely.
Mains - dad had a pork chop; I had a bit and it was great. Freya slag Bol, Theo spag Napolitana. Julie had the chicken and potatoes in lemon. All great.
I had the veal stifado. The Stifado sauce was great, but the veal a bit tough/heavy. It’s proving impossible to find rabbit, so my favourite remains the lamb stifado at Asprolithos. That aside, our two visits to Mesogia have been great (again) this year.
I have the remaining three nights booked. Olive Thea tonight. White View at the hotel tomorrow. Marmita in town Friday.
Quiet ‘pool day’ today.

It’s proving impossible to find rabbit On that island with the postcard shipwreck on the beach in a cove, we passed a taverna on the way to peep over the cliff edge at the wreck. Ordered a rabbit for when we returned. On the way back, we saw a man with a gun and a rabbit - our rabbit! (that's a used gun and a dead rabbit).

Where’s mesogia ym? Like the sound of it Go up Papiamanditis, turn left towards Phedrock. Go past Phedrock to the end, turn left, then right. You come out with Mesogia to your left and a Gravisi to your right.

Olive Thea last night. Dad was impressed by the food, the view, and indeed the toilets.
Julie had Sea Bass, Freya chicken nuggets (proper ones), Theo plain pasta, and I had moussaka. Mine was great. If I have a criticism of the moussaka - not just last night, but most times I’ve had it in Greece, I feel there’s not enough meat sauce/aubergine/potatoes, and too much béchamel, but the flavours of each was great. Good quality house white and rose again, too.
You cannot fault this place. Food at least on a par with a decent taverna, stunning views, and a free ride each way.
I’m sat at the pool bar - it’s 11:30. In 90 minutes we’re getting the Palace’s free bus into town. The girls are going shopping. Me and dad will have a wander round and lunch on the Bourtzi.

The Bourtzi was great, as ever. Great setting, great views, great…erm…toilets.
The food we had was lovely, but the menu was far more limited this year, which was quite disappointing.
The wine we wanted was sold out. The beer appeared to be a reasonable price, but when it arrived it was a small glass.
But what we had was good (a cherry tomato salad, and flatbread margarita pizza), and I’d rather have lunch here than anywhere else on the planet.

The Palace’s White View last night.
A warm welcome and great service. I still grin at one of their starters as labelled on the menu. Zucchini ‘in mush’. I Google translated the Greek version of the menu, and ‘mush’ is batter. Very good, too. Crispy batter, worthy of the best chip shop’s fish. Some slightly melted baked feta too, superb.
Great wine (white, red and rose).
Freya had more fried zucchini for a main. Dad had another swordfish (as good as the last). Theo his usual plain pasta, but he didn’t like the herbs. I had lamb chops. A bit larger, chunkier and juicier than the usual, so not what I was expecting, but still lovely.
And what a very fine setting. Another great view for a meal.
