I really enjoyed it, I love wandering around those little streets up there. That roof was real craftsmanship. How on earth do they get building materials up to there no room for lorries.

I noticed one or two iffy comments by some folks on one of the Skiathos facebook groups (about where the money came from for the renovations) were answered by Sarah herself who put the record straight. Some egg on face for a few posters by look of it :-)

I haven’t read Facebook. Were they by any chance asking if she’s doing it for free?

A few quick thoughts.
No idea who Sarah Moore is…ah, she’s on one of those BBC-don’t-throw-it-away-I’ll-mend-it programmes.
Blimey, they’ve half-demolished what was there and got the new roof in already. How’s this going to last for 5 more episodes?
It was nice to watch. A lot of “I know that street!” “My kids have been on that water sport!”
Question - They’re a family of five. How on Earth will they all be able to stay there at the same time?
I know this is a doer-upper programme, but it’s cost them €100k and they plan to spend €60k (clue: they’ll overspend). You can get a lot better than that in Skiathos Town for similar money.
Question - Are they going to raise the issue of only being able to stay there for 90 days out of every 180?

i wondered that, as the daughter is 15 and the boys older, im guessing they wont be going with them much longer. they can have sofa bed in sitting room for the two boys. As they are both working im guessing wont want to stay more than 90 days. There are so many ruins around like that its great to see one being restored

Yes I think it will essentially be a holiday home for them with either parents plus youngest child or in a separate visit the 2 older kids there on their own? As YM says it looked a lot of money for a building in that state, there have been ones for sale in town you could have moved straight into for not a lot more money but the whole premiss is that it's a fixing up series and has to fill 6 programmes so there have to be ups and downs and things not quite working out at times. Will be interesting to see what the final total is and what you could have for same total without having any building work done.

One up, one down for £100K. My first house was two up, two down PLUS outside toilet (think opening background shots for Coronation Street with cat on toilet roof) and cost £675. We had turned down our first viewed place when the owner tried to gazump us, saying she’d already got an offer of £375. But we couldn’t see the sea.

For the price, I immediately thought of this: wp.skiathosproperty.com/property/renovated-town-house-with-3-bedrooms/That’s a €180,000 3 bedroom house vs a one bedroom house costing €100,000 + €60,000 to pay for the work (and I bet they’ll go €20,000 over, or close). Again, I completely understand that buying this wouldn’t amount to a 6 hour TV series. But surely the idea of a doer-upper is that it’s cheaper to buy a wreck and do it up yourself than it is to buy a similar place that’s finished. I suppose the project is ‘fun’ in itself, and you get to choose how you want it to end up.

Good points YM and as for choosing how I want it to end up, I could easily get a cheap can of avocado paint and I already have a photo of granny. PS I saw her at our local recycling tip a couple of times but she didn’t grab any of my stuff. Did anybody see the cartoon once of somebody saying they had created a terrific upcycled pallet out of an old chest of drawers?
