To be fair, she did say that they had £60k for the renovation but at some point realised it would be £100k, an amount they hadn't anticipated. Seems to me she is emotionally invested in the Plakes area and restoring an old Greek property. Good luck to her, I'm sure the finished product will be gorgeous.

Yes, it’s not all about the money.
Whilst the property is small, if there’s only a couple there the lounge/kitchen-diner and bedroom will be large.
I wonder if the bathroom will have a shower with a 90cm x 90cm surround at the bottom and a shower rail directly above it, so you can’t take a shower without the curtain sticking to you. 🤣

Finally got round to watching episode 2. The guy who is their mate and main go-between to get locals in to do the work owns Agnadio restaurant out near the airport. Only eaten there once, we booked an evening meal there after we had been up to the winery.

I've often considered the possibility of buying property on the island, not to live there full time, but to spend much more time there than I would over 2 or 3 short holidays each year.
A funny by-product of the programme is a small window on day-to-day Skiathos life, including out of season.

Watched the penultimate episode, house nearly done. It's been interesting from the build side (take home message is that it's a massive advantage having friends/locals you know and trust who are there all year round to keep an eye on things) to the quirky little businesses that are there on the island but off the beaten tourist path so few of us see them. I mean you know they must be there, eg the blacksmith/metal workers but by their nature they are out of the way businesses. From a personal point of view it has been interesting as it has been shot over the two years where I have met Helen on the island and our relationship has developed so some good memories there for me.

Final episode last night. Unfortunately they never got into the nuts and bolts of final total costs, even an estimate would have been useful for anyone else thinking about it. I'll revise my previous post about it being an 'advantage' having a local on the ground who you trust to 'absolute necessity' as Sarah made clear herself at the end of the series. I'm relating to this particular type of project where there's serious rebuilding to be done. If it was somewhere to just buy and walk straight into that would be a different thing. Aftere seeing some of the messages on a fb site I hope there aren't a horde of rubber neckers traipsing down there every day taking selfies. Even if the family aren't there it's a residential area and there are othe rpeople just wanting to get on with their lives. I'd often planned to do the walk round Plakes in years gone by but never seemed to get round to it (apart from going up to the church at the top beyond R&P, this might not even strictly be Plakes) but I will probably give it a miss for a year or two until the dust settles.
