Apropos my recent thread about spending more time on the island.
I turn 60 in April 2025, and SWMBO turns 60 later that year, mid-September. For all manner of pension-related shenanigans, she’ll have to take a break in service of at least one day.
It struck me over the weekend that she could take longer, and I raised the possibility of spending a month on Skiathos. Timing indicates this would be the last 3 weeks of the season, and the first week after. We’d stay in an AirBnB in town, fly out direct from Manchester or Leeds, and fly back via Athens, possibly staying there for a few days.
This would be my first visit (either to Skiathos or elsewhere) which wouldn’t be a traditional 7-14 day ‘holiday’. Has anyone else done anything similar?

AirBnB apartment for two in town for a month is about £1,500.
Flights and luggage out will be around £300.
We’d need to add to that flights back to Athens (no direct flights back mid-October), accommodation for a night or two there, and flights from Athens back to Manchester.
In total, maybe £2,200, so £1,100 each, or £275 a week, which isn’t bad, I don’t think.

I'm sure you have factored it in but I think for as long as a month you'd have to assume more eating and drinking at 'home' on the cheap than you would on a 7 or 14 night full on holiday.

Absolutely. Fortunately, I like cooking.
Given we’d be there for twice as long as the usual fortnight, we could split eating in and out roughly 50:50.
Maybe even more home cooking.

I was under the impression that the area that Skiathos was a bit short of was long term lets, but this may have referred to year long lets rather than the odd month. I think the subject came up when there was a discussion somewhere (maybe way back in Tripadvisor forum days?) that people considering buying somewhere permanent should try a 12 month let first to see a winter out before taking the plunge. It was then pointed out that there were very few places available for such an approach. As I say, a month is probably more doable. I recall my mum and dad going to Malta for about 5 weeks one year after they were both retired.
