For personal reasons, I have not published details of our bookings for this year. We’ve had two in the bag since last year. The first one scheduled for payment of final balance by tomorrow 31st March. Unfortunately, medical developments have compelled us to cancel that one today, so there should now be availability for it if anybody fancies their chances - I don’t know how quickly it will reappear on TUI’s website, nor how quickly it will be sold, details if you’re interested are:-
TUI package, 14 nights flying from Bristol, 7.35am Friday 23rd June, accommodation Villa Maria, Troulos, self catering.
I’ve just looked and it’s now available. I am horrified to see the basic price (2 persons) is just over £1,800, whilst our price including extra luggage and Select your seats was £1,615. Nice little earner for TUI when they have not only bumped the price, but also grabbed our forfeited deposit of £400. GRRR! And more GRRR because we’re not insured for that lost deposit - my annual family policy was due for renewal on 6th March and our medical developments arose in February, whereupon the insurers said they would not cover us. Of the host of companies I tried, only three would cover us, variously £3,000 plus, £2,000 plus, and £1,300. Sad, innit? 25 years we’ve been doing these holidays and never claimed a penny on insurance.

Oh that’s so sad to hear this Dennis and the reason behind you having to cancel too, I truly hope things change illness wise and you both manage your September visit. Much love to you and Vera xx

That’s pretty annoying, to say the least.
My thoughts with you both, and here’s hoping that you can get away later.

I’m really sorry to hear that Dennis. It proves, yet again, that you only find out how good your insurance is when you have to make a claim. There should be a responsibility on companies to return the deposit when they are able to resell the holiday.

Replied on facebook but will repeat here how sorry I am to hear of this, hope you are both well enough to make the usual later September visit. Nice little earner for TUI trousering your deposit then readvertising the holiday at an increased price, all of which is costing them nothing other than an underling pressing a few buttons to reactivate the holiday on their website.

Yes, I’m wondering whether there would be any mileage in trying that angle. Note, they didn’t say lose your £400 deposit, they said “cancellation fee £400, already paid £400, balance nil”. I wonder, do you think if I had paid the holiday balance today (another £1,200), then cancelled tomorrow, would the cancellation fee still be ONLY £400 and they’d refund the £1,200?

Well, tonight the vacancy has gone from TUI’s website. Does anybody have any addresses for TUI? Snail mail or email or both.

Sadly mum has had to call off her June visit. Following some health issues recently she is still in too much pain to really get about and enjoy the island and would even with luggage (I know she could airport assistance). She is slowly recovering and is hoping to rebook accommodation later in year, they have been really good about it. Lost the air fare though.

UPDATE. I emailed Sebastian Ebel on 2nd May, suggesting he discretion my cancellation penalty down from £400 to £100. He didn’t reply. So yesterday I spent time getting more TUI email addresses from the Facebook page for complaints about TUI. I then emailed ten addresses with a copy of my original, saying no response after four weeks, can you expedite. Got a phone call today from one of them. The ‘nice’ lady apologised etc etc and it seems that the cancellation fee is governed by their terms and conditions and she is unable to refund me anything, but thank you for your feedback which will help us improve our customer service. I replied that I already knew their terms and conditions and my email was not to give feedback but to seek a reduction. Well, sorry but she’s not able to do that.

You would think they could use discretion, looking at your booking history with them twice a year for years. It cost us £100 to move holiday to next year. Which I think is abit steep bearing in mind they gave me nhs discount then take it away again. Also you can only have discount on certain weeks , so the date I wanted next year would have been a lot more expensive.
