The new bus timetables for 1st May are up, and I'm a little disappointed. skiathostransports.gr/en/routes/So, departures at 7:00, 8:30, 9:30, 11:00, 12:30, 13:30, 14:30, 16:00, 17:30, 19:00, 21:00 and 22:00. The old winter timetable was: 7:00, 8:30, 9:30, 11:00, 12:30, 13:30, 14:30, 16:00, 17:30, 19:00 In both cases, that's Town to Koukounaries, with each of those buses turning round at Bus Stop 26 and returning to Town 30 minutes later. So the only difference appears to be the addition of two late buses at 21:00 & 22:00. Frankly, I wouldn't trust that you'd be able to get on either of those back to your resort, nor (and I'm staying in town this year), back into town. And 22:30 is a tad too early to be expected to return home after meal and a drink. I was hoping we'd have the full summer timetable from Monday, based on the fact that the full timetable ran all summer last year, right up to 10th October. Hopefully things will improve between now and Spring Bank, or I'm not sure I'll be eating out of Town at all on an evening, and I'll probably be spending more days by the pool than on a beach.

Is that an amalgamated timetable or just the new tickets in advance buses? The airport run is disappointing but I'd hope a few more will run during busy season. If your flight is 8pm you are not going to get a bus to the airport at noon.

If your flight is 8pm you are not going to get a bus to the airport at noon. That’s just the new buses. The old buses are usually better than that by Spring Bank, so I’m hoping for rapid increases in frequency and extension at the end of the evening. As I’ve said before, I’m perplexed by the island’s mindset that the season starts slowly (it does), then gets busier gradually and steadily up to the peak in August (it doesn’t). Last year at Spring Bank everywhere appeared full - as full as August. Go on TUI or Jet2 today and there’s little left for half term.

Mind you, in our day you could walk down the middle of the road at 2pm with a fair chance of coming home unscathed. Our entire road of at least 50 houses boasted just one car owner, we all saw the coronation (ER II) on the only telly in the road (different house), filing through their front room and out the back door for our ten second glimpse of something!

Last May (Spring bank hol week) the last bus from town to Kouk was 11 pm. I remember 'cos I intended to catch it (twice) but ended up staying out late & getting a taxi back. That was probably safer for me, as I was staying at Myrtia and the taxi took me down the bumpy dark track, whereas the bus wouldn't have been so obliging 😊

New timetable is up - this is the new (white) bus service. skiathostransports.gr/dromologia/So that’s every 30 minutes from 9:00am to 11:00pm (two early ones at 7:00 and 8:00am). That works better for me this year, as I’m staying in town. In short, waiting for an 11:30 last bus back from Koukounaries to town, which you’re pretty much guaranteed a seat on, is a far safer bet than waiting for a last bus back from town to Koukounaries at 11:00, which will almost certainly be full. Not unimportant is the fact that you can sit in Agustera until 11:25 when you see the bus go past the other way. It’s still over 2 weeks until we go, so there’s still time for improvement, and of course there are the old buses, too.

And yet another update. skiathostransports.gr/dromologia/Now every 20 minutes between 7:00am and 8:00am, then every 15 minutes until midnight. That’s a lot healthier at the end of the day. In effect, what we had from 11:00pm was two buses - the 11:00pm and the 11:30pm -meaning there was a potential for a scramble and the possibility of either or both being full. We now have 5 buses (11:00pm, 11:15, 11:30, 11:45 and 12:00 midnight) instead of those 2, and with the last two of these being later than before. That’s a huge improvement. This is almost the same timetable as peak last year now, with the only difference being the first bus bring 6:45 then (instead of 7:00 now, though there was no 7:00am last year), and there was a 12:30am and 1:15am. Hopefully they’ll come soon.

Well, I’ll apologise in advance for raining on your parade but I have to say….. Having lost our June holiday and with our September one in serious jeopardy, I’ll say it here - if I get to Skiathos in September, I shall be so happy that waiting for a bus will be the last thing I shall worry my little head over. I’ll stand (or even better luxuriously sit) at a bus stop for as long as it takes, and rejoice if and when one comes along. I shall be even rejoicerer if an old green bus with a nice driver and conductor and comfy seats hoves into view. Just saying!

I shall be even rejoicerer if an old green bus with a nice driver and conductor and comfy seats hoves into view. Just saying! I suppose we all need different things at different times. This year, for the first time, we’re staying in town. So the frequency of the buses during the day matters for the beaches, especially coming back. If you set off back at 5:00pm, and the buses only run every half hour and might be full, then you might not get back until 6:30 or even later, which starts to eat into your evening. A more regular service means you’re not waiting as long for a bus, when it comes it’s less likely to be as full, and if it’s full you don’t have to wait as long for the next. But you’re right, purely based on sitting at a bus stop a little while longer, it’ll just be great to be back on the island. Hope you make it in September.

After a flurry of 4or 5 updates in a week we’ve had nothing for a fortnight. So perhaps this is it. A very healthy service, though but running quite as late as last year. Still very good.

Buses are great now! The airport bus service is keeping the price of a taxi from the port at €10! It was only one euro more for us to use a taxi, though when there’s only me I’ll probably use the bus.
