They were really trying to encourage guests to eat there in May - offering a free bottle of wine. I suppose if people stay in the hotel for their meals they will spend more at the bar, instead of out in town. I’ve booked there for Easter week next year, as a package, and the only option was half board. I can’t see me eating there more than once, though. It’s a shame they’ve done this as it will put a lot of people off.

It’s a shame they’ve done this as it will put a lot of people off. I’m (semi-unwillingly) on an AI holiday, and the food is as good as I’ve had at AI, but it’s necessarily limited to mainly stewy stuff you can cook in bulk and place in a large aluminium warming tray. The first time I went to Skiathos I went to the Espiridies at Achladies half board, and the evening meal was AI-esque. A lot of people talk about how Skiathos is changing, and ‘authenticity’; a word that generally means what Skiathos was like when they first visited. But forget that for a second, I want quality. Whether it’s moussaka or a curry or a pizza or whatever, I don’t want to feel like I’m in a school canteen.

Agree with you totally, I don’t do queing or buffets. I went to esperides 25 years ago food was good especially if you ate in outside bit, but meal over so quick when all prepared ready made for long evening if you didn’t go in town for a wander. I prefer strolling round deciding where to eat and enjoy a wait between courses. My pet hate is meals served with rice and chips don’t eat either, that’s why I like stoupa on mainland food served with lots good veg as can grow locally and doesn’t have to be ferried in at a cost. And you can always get lemon potatoes done in oven. If price is reasonable for alykon book it and eat out. Or flight only and hotel separately

Oh yes, the speed.
In AI, it feels like a rush.
On Skiathos, eating out is an event!

more demand, and further to fly.Bigger airports charge more for landing fees etc. sept always been very expensive, last chance for people to take holiday. we,ve been twice mid sept and everyone was quite old. Except took late holiday early october and a good mix of ages and scorching weather.

To add insult to injury, we thought we’d switch back to just booking flights and accommodation separately, majority of jet2 flights in May showing package deals only. Yet again back to the drawing board

That’s very poor, Dave. I knew that you can’t get a Jet2 flight-only except on a Monday and Wednesday, meaning that my friend (who is joining me for the Easter weekend next May) is having to fly out on Friday 3rd with Tui and back on Weds 8th with Jet2. A bit of a nuisance.
