On Papadiamantis Street (the main shopping street of Skiathos Town), is the Attikon Cinema, which is open air. During the holiday season one of it's main attractions is the showing of the movie Mama Mia, which of course was partly filmed on the island as well as Skopelos and the mainland coast. This is the highlight of some peoples holidays, as there is no better place to watch the movie and a great atmosphere is felt by the audience on every showing. The Attikon Faceook page can be found here.

Woody I have been threatening to do the Mamma Mia cinema thing every year but as the other half doesn't like Abba and I watching Pierce Brosnan singing we've never been, maybe this year!

To tell you the truth, I've never been there either, but have seen the movie many times at home.

Open air, under the stars on a balmy night with a drink in your hand and the entire audience joining in. Perfect. It's corny and I loved it.

it is special seeing it in skiathos, last time we saw it mike had it on the big screen in the garden of oasis. one of my favourite walks at least 15 years ago was up the steps to the clock by the church where the film opens then sitting in what used to be final steps bar as it was then, not taverna watching planes and ferries come in below. A lovely tranquil place , the very nice man who ran it often had chris rhea cd's on whenever i hear his songs now i'm transported back to sitting in the warm balmy air of skiathos listening to him while enjoying the wonderful view. and an ouzo or three.

Ah the Final Step fantastic views, I used to do the same thing cariad and you need at least three ouzo's to numb the knees enough not to feel any pain on the walk back down

I have a faint ambition to go up there. But looking up at it from down wherever I am, I find it easy enough to resist the temptation. Somebody once suggested going up there to get a free view of the cinema show, but I settle for the 8 Euro tickets!

There's a lovely little church at the top but alas no postbox as is shown in the film ... that was a prop. You've got the best idea Dennis to pay the €8 if you want to see the film then you can sit in comfort on directors chairs with a bottle of wine and some nibbles.

I'm not mocking - I just think if you tried the climb in my shoes you'd see what I mean!

Talking of film props, it has been my good fortune recently (i.e. I was paid) to do a certain amount of film props delivery work. Mostly costumes for period drama. One grizzly box was apparently filled with baby body parts made of plastic or something, for a film about them getting blown up - didn't fancy that. The film set where I delivered them was also doing a dog thing, so the whole place was heaving with dogs of all shapes and sizes, being walked round by their minders. I don't like dogs (although they are better than cats).
