a friend is currently staying at the Elivi, cost him over £5k for his family (wife 2 youngsters) for a week b&b ,he says it’s the worst experience he’s ever had in Skiathos. reported a problem with aircon early today, still not fixed. He says staff are surly and unhelpful, he’s also not enamoured with many of his fellow guests. just goes to prove, you don’t always get what you pay for!!!

Just to update, he’s just informed TUI he’s checking out in the morning and sending them the bill. he described the Elivi as , fur coat and no knickers.

I haven’t got any friends who can afford £5k for a week’s holiday. (That might be because I don’t have many friends 😁).

I saw a post on Facebook about a few folk complaining about 1 hotel in particular. Can't say for definite if it was this one or not, but it was mentioned it was a new hotel and the staff were really nasty.
I have never come across this sort of thing in Skiathos, but we usually go for smaller family run villas rather than hotels.

The mayor seems to be on a bit of a mission lately having notices put up reiterating that the beaches are public spaces (as they all are in Greece) so wonder if he's sending a message out to Elivi owners? Is there still an ongoing court case wrt to them cutting down some trees?

5k for a family of 4 does seem a bit steep tho 🤔 was it 5*? Evidently, the accommodation had lots of issues which took a long time to rectify, our friends found the service and attitude of the staff the worst encountered on the island. It is billed and priced as 5star, but apparently it doesn’t match up to its hype.

Given the destruction they have caused and the reported illegal actions they have taken, I think that it should be renamed Evil Hotel! Bob

I think ‘destruction’ might be a bit strong.
I think they’ve broken laws about not having permission to cut down olive trees, but the number cut down without permission appears to be very small.
I’m also hearing (locally) that it’s almost unheard of for a new property to be built and not transgress these rules.
Elivi should be subject to the same rules as everyone else, but that cuts both ways.

That's very fair of you, YM ... but I went back to Ambelakia beach for old times sake, as it was our most special place on an island of special places. It was totally different ... the Elivi half crammed with ridiculously over-large sunbeds and all of the trees between the hotel and beach stripped away, with just a few small olives replanted. It looks awful. I wish I'd taken a photo. The Mystique half is the same as it was - expensive, but lovely.

SkiathosIan just posted that the Town Councilm case against Elivi has been turned down by the Magistrates. The intent to remove the barriers was denied, pedestrian access to the beach is still OK, but no vehicles.

Steve Mansfield also posted that the court decision is a temporary measure and the case is not closed yet. Hope it doesn't descend into who can afford best legal team.
