Whatever you can manage Kate and whenever, it's all good and appreciated. Glad it's all going well so far.

Morning all … I’ve got half an hour before I go out for breakfast, so will do as much as I can 🙃
Saturday: I decided on a beach day at Megali Ammos, so had a coffee in my room and then walked to the beach and settled in the garden at Swell by mid-morning. All of their beach beds were full by 11am, though other hotels/restaurants had availability. I spent a lovely day listening to music (I forgot my book!) and relaxing, breaking my day with a pizza and glass of rose for lunch. I had meant to swim, but somehow didn’t! The weather was glorious - very warm but with a nice cooling breeze now and again. On the topic of weather, the heat has been slowly building up and there are heatwave warnings out - high 30’s and risk of fire. I’m very aware & being sensible!
After a mooch back to town and the hotel I got myself ready and was picked up by my friends at bus stop 4 (same ones that I was with in Totem the previous evening) and we went to Agnadio Azzuro for dinner with two other lovely young ladies - Nina from the dog shelter and Chloe who used to work at Anemos, but now is at the Enterprise car hire office by the bus terminus. We had a fabulous evening … great company, lovely hosts, good food and wow … what a view! When the moon started to rise above the sea, it was a red moon and I managed to get a great photo with my phone. I’ll put it on fb Boomerang group when I get round to posting. I had a baked feta cheese starter and then a spicy, ginger and garlic chicken dish with rice - it was a bit like a Thai red curry and all absolutely delicious. The others all had a mezze starter, then one had the same as me, two had pork fillet in sauce and the anniversary girl had lemon chicken. We all had various puds and lots of wine and couldn’t believe the bill - just under €100 for the five of us!! I think we were given ‘mates rates’ as they are all residents.
We stayed till about midnight … then straight home and to bed for me! … I’m sleeping so well 😴
To be continued …

Thank you so much Kate! I have been checking in way too often to this thread looking for updates (sorry), I was so excited to see your latest instalment! I think I have decided that come what may, I’m going to try my best to make it back at the end of August!

Will you be staying long enough to come to my birthday party Victoria? If not, set it back a couple of weeks - third week of September.

I think I have decided that come what may, I’m going to try my best to make it back at the end of August! There are some ridiculously cheap flights going around from some airports to kick-start interest again, I've seen prices for the flight I'm due on from EMA on Aug27th and returning 2 weeks later for about half what I paid when I booked last year. C'est la vie.

Hope the heatwave has subsided a little for you by the end of August, Victoria. It’s as hot as Hades today 🔥🔥🔥. I’m currently cooling off in my room after venturing out only as far as Pap Street for some essentials (inc toothpaste, what poor planning!) and needed a shower when I got back. It’s about 36C today, but forecast to get hotter. (There’s someone in the next room with the loudest snore I’ve ever heard! Will put the air con on to drown the noise 🤦♀️) Anyway, thank you so much for your encouraging comments. I feel just the same when any of you excellent people do your reports - am always anxiously awaiting the next update! Dennis - due to your fab posts - I looked for the skittering fishes at Troulos on Friday, but with no luck!
Here goes:
Sunday: Having settled well into lazy holiday mode, I didn’t leave the hotel until about 11 am and decided to see if I could get a table at the Bourtzi for brunch. I had a coffee and banana early on, but wasn’t desperately hungry. I had to wait about ten minutes, but got a good table and enjoyed people-watching while I ate. I had a bacon and cheese burger with fries and fruit juice to drink. It was really delicious … and I managed it all! It was really busy … mainly Greeks enjoying a Sunday get-together. After I’d eaten I went to sit on the rocks for a while, to commune with Paul. There were some elderly, bikini’d local ladies swimming there and one gestured for me to join them. So lovely! I was tempted, but would have had to swim in my undies … oops, not on a Sunday!
I had a siesta when I got back to the hotel, as I had arranged to go out at 7pm and was flagging a bit. I’d been invited to have dinner at Amfiliki with a gentleman who has been visiting Skiathos for many years, having worked in Volos and stayed here for a fair few years. He seems to know half the island … both locals and expats. As I’d never been to Amfiliki before I was really looking forwards to it - and wasn’t disappointed. We met for a tail at GinFish first (so convenient for me!) and then walked up through Plakes to the restaurant. The views from there are amazing, and the food was pretty good, too. We shared a Greek salad and also the main - both having fish dishes: red mullet (fried and really crispy) and a combination of battered dogfish & Greek cod, served with Horta and beetroot. If you’ve never been to Amfiliki, it’s renowned for its fish and seafood and is much visited by locals. We had a bottle of rosé and water and paid €25 each … but I can’t remember if this included the tip. Definitely worth a visit.
After that, a walk back down to the port and then a nightcap at Syraino where we went our separate ways. It was about 11pm and I was very mindful that I had a sailing trip booked the next day, so straight to sleep for me. I’m actually sleeping so well here … especially if I leave the window open and get lulled by the sound of the waves. 😴😴😴
To be continued …
PS this is really funny, but this forum won’t let me type the word for an overpriced alcoholic drink with a fancy garnish that is so popular in every bar and begins with a C! Looks like this 🍹or this 🍸 … I’ve amended two of my posts twice, but it just won’t allow it! Anyway, if you’re wondering why GinFish is selling ‘tails‘, you’ll now understand! How strange 😂

Hi Kate, loving. Your updates. We’re currently at our sons in Seville where temperatures are hitting 38 degrees, very draining. Little else you can do but seek shaded refuge with an ice cold beer. Hope you have a wonderful rest of your holiday, although it’s not too long till you hopefully return for part 2 of your adventure

Tails, Kate, magnificent. Trying C ocktails to see what happens. There you go - maybe capital letter, or the space (which auto correct removed at first go).

PS I don't have Tails myself, but I'll happily provide one for you at my birthday party in September.

We know what you mean though I have removed the embodied bit for this word, so it should now work on Cocktail Woody

Your holiday sounds wonderful Kate, tails an all 😄 I always have a tail on holidays cos I think it’s the done thing but then prefer my own tipple instead, they always look better than they taste! I had read somewhere else about the heatwave hitting Greece and rumours of highs of 41C - sitting in your lovely accommodation under the A/C listening to the 🌊 will be even more welcome then. Keep enjoying every moment! And thank you for taking the time to keep your avid readers up to date.

Not sure dennis….., I’m looking at end of August, into beginning of September. If work didn’t exist in the world I could stretch it out to the end of September and attend every birthday on the island - what a dream!

I have seen some very good prices and indeed availability of places usually snapped up way earlier than I’d ever book. I’m always a last minute booker and this year want to wait to see how things unfold with the multi colour travel system before committing, as the quarantine afterwards might be a deal breaker. Last year we squeezed 10 days in late summer and stayed near town for the first time which was a great decision, looking at the same kind of thing this year.

Hello, you happy band of Skiathites 😁. Had planned an hour of writing this afternoon but I fell into a deep sleep for three hours! Now am going to to be ready in time to go and meet two friends by seven for a girls night at the cinema. Wonder what will be on? 🤔. It doesn’t usually take me long to get ready, but it’s so humid that my hair takes ages to dry … and it’s not even very long! Dennis … which day is your actual birthday (it probably says somewhere, but am in a rush) … we overlap by a week, so we can definitely meet up for something 🎂🥂☕️ Thanks Woody for enabling Cocktails … you’re a star! 🍹. Though I also quite like Tails 😁. See you all 🔜
