Hope you enjoy the cinema Kate , it’s always a good night. I’ve not been posting because kates are so brilliant there’s no way I can compete 🤣. Thought I’d just let all the people who visit troulos that totem have opened a bar at bus stop 18 aswell as town so there is still hope on the island

Jubby, this is not a competition. It’s only about us lapping up the tiniest bits you can offer. You don’t HAVE to write, but we’ll all be so grateful if you do - remember, we’ve only had Kate’s story so far, yours has got to be different. Different beach, bus ride, boat trip, taverna, meal. I mean, I need to know if you’ve had chips?

Definitely, ate at Victoria tonight and had chicken a la creme with chips which was delicious, and of course oregano crisps during the day. Unfortunately not ventured far other than negotiating the large supermarket and hardware store on the ring road as we have had plenty of work and gardening to catch up on as it was last September since we’ve been to the house so the grass and plants were all out of control. Managed to get a couple of ice cream breaks on the port front watching the ferries and boats come in which is always a great way to chill out when it’s so hot , but I will post if I find any interesting tips or any exciting bits of news that I think would be of interest. I know it’s not a competition but I too have been enjoying kates news so haven’t needed to post but if I will if I get through the jungle that was once a garden and find the beach .🤣😎

It's great reading Kate's and Jubby's reports especially this year with little or no feedback of any kind from the island, all I've had to look at is the webcam and previous holiday photos! Well I've got 26 days to go so I'm going to allow myself to start getting excited now even if things keep changing almost on a daily basis.

Well, I’d like to hear what you’ve been up to as well Jubby1 (interesting nom de plume, by the way!) … we’re all pretty keen on new posters! Don’t mind at all if it’s about gardening and shopping! I heard that the new Totem in Troulos has the blonde lady and band singing there at the moment. The town one is temporarily closed, as the boss man hasn’t been doing his vaccine checking properly 🤨
Ok, back to my adventures - Monday (oops, almost a week behind!):
I was up and out just before nine, ready for the sailing day organised by George from the I Love Skiathos group. Meeting was at the new port at 9.30, so I had breakfast at the Meltemi Cafe while I waited. We were on two yachts; the Lady Mary and the Nefeli, each with a Captain George at the helm! George was host on one yacht and his very lovely girlfriend Martina was on the other. There were 21 of us in total- a mixture of British and Romanian families. I was on the Lady Mary with Martina and two young Romanian families, whose English put me to shame … I know zero about their country. We set sail at about ten, and had the most perfect day. The weather was good … quite hot, but with a lovely breeze and a cloudless sky. We couldn’t get to Lalaria, due to the wind direction, but I was secretly pleased as I’ve been before. (How selfish, you’ll all be thinking - but there’s no shade and the stones are rather uncomfortable, in my opinion.) Our first stop was a cave on Skopelos, where we swam off the boat for a while. I felt very brave, as I’m a pretty hopeless swimmer. I can do it & am good at floating about, but my arms need strengthening a lot and I can only do an ungainly crawl. Anyway, I didn’t go into the cave as someone saw some jellyfish, but after a bit of floating (me) and some showing off (not me!) we all clambered aboard again and set off to sail around Skopelos.
I was impressed by it’s size and greenery, very forested. We sailed past Loutraki (with Glossa above, I think, but KevB will definitely know) and on to another swimming stop at a famous beach, but I decided to have a sunbathe at the front of the yacht … very comfy! When everyone was rounded up (eventually) we sailed on to our lunch stop at a tiny village called Elios/Neo Klimi (I think). It was basically a harbour, a couple of tavernas and some houses behind - quite small. Getting ashore was funny, as all the yachts were moored onto each other as it’s not a big dock and we had to climb over from one to the next … yacht hopping! (Easier after lunch when we’d consumed wine or beer, interestingly!)
Lunch was amazing value, two long tables of the 21 of us and €10 a head. We had bread, tzatziki, aubergine dip and Greek salad first, followed by big sharing plates of chicken in lemon sauce with oven potatoes, moussaka, fried small fish, calamari, chips and meatballs in sauce… wow! Then watermelon to finish and wine, beer, water or Coca Cola on demand throughout. Wonderful!
We lingered a while, getting to know each other, then hopped back to our respective yachts and sailed on to a tiny deserted beach at Arkos island for a swim to the shore. Having consumed wine I didn’t think it was wise, and thought I’d just swim near the yacht but very quickly gave in to peer pressure 😂 I was encouraged by the loan of the captain’s lilo … very kind! I’ve made a resolution to get back to my gym, work on the arms and use the pool regularly this winter.
We swam back to the yachts like a shoal of dolphins (ahem!) and then sailed home to Skiathos, getting back at about five thirty. What a fab day, spent with lovely people! It cost €70 per adult, but I had the I love Skiathos discount card so paid €63. Well worth it.
Oops - just noticed the time - need to get showered and dinner somewhere.
TBC …

Another great post Kate, I'm only just catching up with the last couple of pages but I did see pics of you and Julie on FB.
Quite correct on the Skopelos bit, the port is Loutraki and Glossa is the little village in the hills overlooking it, though lots of people refer to the port as 'Glossa' as well. Only been to them once when there was a ferry service that stopped at Loutraki and then a free shuttle bus drove round the island via Glossa then down the west coast through Panormos, cut eastward and finally got to Skopleos town about 50 mins later.
Have you tried the Icebreaker cocktail at Ginfish yet?

I heard that the new Totem in Troulos has the blonde lady and band singing there at the moment. Dennis will be delighted to know if he opens a window at Villa Maria he will be able to hear their set if they play at the volume they do in town

I’m sure that Dennis and Vera like rock songs from the seventies, the era when they were just youngsters themselves!
Monday evening:
I had to have a rest after the exciting day at sea, so went out to eat quite late. After a wander, I ended up at La Cantinella opposite Dionysus. It’s an Italian restaurant with a lovely courtyard area at the back and it only opened in 2019, but was shut last season. It was very quiet, and the waitress was lovely. They brought olives and tiny warm dough balls out first, then I had a spinach and parmesan ravioli dish (beautiful), a bottle of sparkling water and 500l of very nice rosé. I’ll definitely return in the future …it was €21.50, not including the tip.
While I was eating a friend messaged me to say that a local band we both like were on it Totem, so she of little willpower ended up there till closing time. In my defence, they were really good and I’d had a nap earlier! It’s great, as I never stay out after midnight at home … am yawning at ten pm. Needless to say, another good sleep 😴
Tuesday:
I went to Mythos cafe for a continental breakfast (with a lovely proper pot of tea) and sat chatting to someone who had been on the original Boomerang forum … with people whose names I recognise but haven’t ever met. Am sure some of you will know … was it started by a gentleman called John Jackman? We chatted for so long that I was almost late for my noon meeting with some expats at Milos, where I was delivering Marmite contraband!
I rushed (no, ambled as it was so hot!) along Bar strip and then a knight in shining armour pulled alongside to offer me a lift on the back of his motorbike! (It was lovely George Katsidikis from the sailing trip) What excitement… I had not been on a motorbike since I was a 20-year old! So I wasn’t late ⏰. My friends were already there, so I passed the goods surreptitiously to them and settled down for a good catch up. We stayed for lunch - I had lamb with lemon potatoes and they had mixed grill with cheesy chips - and we spent a convivial few hours.
They went home for a siesta and I went back into town and sat under a fan in Gerani with an iced coffee. After a rest, it was Limanaki for dinner (chicken in a cheese, tomato and bacon sauce) - it’s bliss there, sitting by the water’s edge. The food is always very good, too. After that, I went to Totem again 🙈, where I’d arranged to meet my anniversary friends. Another great night … leaving quite late yet again. The weird thing is that it doesn’t feel late here, as everyone is still out and about, not just the youngsters … local families are walking along the old port until we’ll after midnight, and I’ve only managed to get back to my room once after GinFish and the new Barbouni had closed! (Don’t tell my kids! 🤣)
