Sorry - got a little sidetracked by the weather discussions!
Yesterday, after a leisurely breakfast at the hotel (very good, by the way) I walked over to Café del Mar at Megali Ammos where I’d arranged to meet a Facebook friend in ‘real life’. 😁 I thought it would take 20 minutes to walk over there, but I was there in 10. Had a lovely few hours with Joy and her husband, waiting for the rain to stop. Coffee turned into lunch and we also sampled the new Repi ale (very nice).
When the rain stopped we parted company and I had a walk round Plakes - a favourite cloudy day activity. I took lots of photos and explored some different paths and alleyways and went down to the little stony beach by the abandoned taverna. I almost got soaked by a rogue huge wave!
Last night I had a cocktail at Syraino and then dinner at O Paraxenos … with the roof fully closed it seemed very different. I had a lovely dinner of sesame coated baked feta followed by an oven-braised pork dish that was melt-in-the-mouth tender and two glasses of Parissis winery rosé. It was all so delicious, but I couldn’t finish all of the pork. I couldn’t squeeze anything else in, so went back to the Lobby Bar for a coffee and a reasonably early night.
A lovely first day - not quite the beach day I’d planned but a most enjoyable one 😍

Wednesday - a very dull morning with the constant threat of rain. After breakfast I had a walk around town, including up to the Limani church in Plakes, followed by a coffee stop at Meltemi cafe on the new port. It started to rain hard while I was in there so I had pancakes with walnuts and honey and read my kindle for a while.
The rain subsided enough for me to get back to the hotel and I tried another Repi beer as they’ve just started stocking it. My new favourite - I got into conversation with some other hotel guests and one beer became two!
A quick shower and change and then off to meet KevB and his mum at Main Street - which you’ll know was full if you’ve read Kev’s posts - so we went straight to dinner. Our first choice was Basilikos - also full - and we ended up at To Paluki for an enjoyable meal. A first for all of us and very reasonable, at €20 each, including the tip.
It’s great fun to get to meet someone you feel you already know a bit through the forum and find you have lots to chat about and (obviously) quite a lot of common ground and shared experience. I felt really relaxed in Kev and Ann’s (Anne’s?) company and hope they did in mine. We ended the evening in The Blind Dog, which was pretty quiet at first but soon livened up and was as good as usual.
We were all a bit shocked to see torrential rain as we came out onto the street and so had very hurried goodbyes before dodging puddles back to our hotels. I was so wet when I got back to the Bourtzi that the guy on reception gave me a towel when I came thru the door 😂. It was a really lovely evening … so thank you Kev and Ann/e … and safe travels tomorrow ✈️

Yesterday (Thursday) was a bit of a non-day for me, due to the weather. I felt cold all day and had to resort to buying a sweatshirt which I don’t even like … but at least I was a little warmer.
Actually, the day started off well, as some friends from home came into town and we had a long, late breakfast together at my hotel and caught up on recent news. It was their last day, so it was a shame for them that the weather was very British!
Afterwards, I went for a walk along the harbour and through the back streets, stopping for a coffee at Gerani. There I met a couple of lively ladies from Liverpool (nice bit of alliteration there! 😁) and we had a chat about various things… including the brilliant medical centre as one of them had had a trapped nerve type of back problem and had received two injections totally FOC, which had really helped her.
I got back to my room at around three, intending to read, but fell asleep for two hours! Nice, but I always feel guilty on the rare occasion this happens ... a bit of a waste. I got ready at about seven pm and couldn’t decide where to eat, as I wasn’t very hungry, so walked around for a while and then decided to try Kalo Pigadi, quite near the hotel. I skipped the starter and selected lamb chops. A good choice - four really nicely cooked chops with some crispy bits and a few chips and tomato on the side. Just the right sized dinner for me. I had an ouzo and water with it, plus small bottle of water - €20, including a tip.
As I was getting near to the end of the meal, a lively party of six came in and two of them came over to say hello … my new friends from Gerani. They insisted that I joined them for a while, so I did until their food arrived. It’s a small world, but it turns out that two of the group are also staying at the Bourtzi and one of the party, a gentleman called Roger, has had a house here for forty years and will be the next door neighbour of my friends who are in the process of buying in Skiathos! They were great company, and really livened up my rather quiet evening.
I left them to it and went back to the Lobby Bar for a nightcap, turning in at around midnight. I slept really well, but have awoken to more heavy rain 🌧🤷🏼♀️

Friday: the morning was a complete washout, with more torrential rain. I took one look outside and went back to bed! Towards lunchtime the rain had stopped, so I got ready and went for a wander. The sun was shining and it was warm again! I decided to walk down to the airport and have a drink at Amaretto whilst watching a few planes land, but got sidetracked as when I passed Milos as some friends were there and called me in. They were about to have lunch and, as I’d skipped breakfast, I decided to join them. I had a Giouvetsi as I was suddenly very hungry and it was absolutely delicious. Might go back for another next week!
After an enjoyable couple of hours I meandered off to Amaretto and saw a couple of smallish planes land - probably private jets, but I don’t know much about planes (other than they bring you here and then, sadly, take you away again.)
I had arranged to meet a couple who had arrived that morning for a drink at Syraino, but got there and had a message to say they were so shattered by no sleep the night before that they had collapsed soon after arrival and could we meet another day. I was just deciding to move on, when who should arrive but the lovely Judith J and friends. More people arrived, and we ended up staying there for the evening - eleven of us! Impromptu and fun, which I love.
I got back to the room and realised I’d not eaten dinner 😬, so had a banana to ward off nighttime hunger pangs and then that was my first Friday over. Beach day tomorrow!

You’re very quiet Kate, missing your daily diary, or perhaps you’re just now in total relax mode

Let’s be kind Dave, she seems to be very occupied with meeting loadsa people! She called out to us on Tuesday morning as we went by to the submarine ceremony. When she gets time I expect she’ll have us scrolling for several pages of her next episodes.

Perhaps she’s still in shock over the sight of your good self munching on a Gyros?

Look forward to it. You made it to oasis Mike and staff so friendly he always try’s to do something for rainy days in the bar lounge. It’s great for late flights too he puts a pile of towels and shower gel out by the two shower rooms he has just for people leaving that day saves rummaging through ur case. We asked him to ring a taxi to take us to the airport he said no need I’ll take you no problem. I asked about which car hire he recommended he offered me his 4x4 to use for couple of days. Often has a singer on by the pool at night or shows a film on big screen outside you can’t beat seeing mamma Mia at midnight in the open sir in Skiathos everyone singing along. He would keep an eye on your mum if she went alone.
